Repair "Refreshing" Wigs?

Dec 31, 2021

    1. I recently purchased a Volks fullset wig with my SDC Mina and noticed the fibers are very dry. I don't feel comfortable doing a "downy dunk" because the hair is in a very particular, unique style. Is there a way to "refresh" this wig (and others possibly) without resorting to soaking it or taking it out of place? Generalized advice on how to care for or moisturize wigs is also appreciated.

      Happy new year, y'all!

    2. What if you put the "downy dunk" in a spray bottle and misted it? I've done that with a very small wig before! It was a crimped curl style and it wasn't ruined by a spritz. Volks might also sell products that could help - they have a wig oil and wig mist. Based off their descriptions, wig oil from Volks would be want you to want.

    3. Thanks for the tips! I didn't think about doing a "downy spray."

    4. Im wondering the same. Im going to try straight hair conditioner . I find downy very strong smelling

    5. New Disclaimer that my experience comes more from rooted hair dolls and American Girl, but: look into something called “braid spray” or “shine spray” that people use when they have hairstyles that include synthetic braiding hair and extensions. I have learned from Black doll collectors that this stuff is cheap, readily available, and actually made for synthetic hair. I have some from Shea Moisture but there are many brands!
