I keep getting unsatisfactory wigs from Leeke! Only one out of four wigs I have purchased in the past couple of months has been perfect. I'm really happy with the one wig that's good, but the other three make me not want to order from wigs from Leeke anymore. Two of the wigs were curly and were incredibly frizzy right from the wig net. They just look awful. The third one is supposed to be a straight wig and it has pieces of hair sticking straight up all over it. http://www.leekeworld.com/En/Product/p_view.asp?it_code=2980&B_catalog_num=21 This is the one that's supposed to be straight. The pieces that are sticking up are sewn in that way. So I can't smooth it down. I asked Leeke if I could return it. I'm still waiting to hear back from them. As for the curly ones, one is a lost cause (but from an earlier purchase so I'm stuck with it) and the other I'm going to try and condition and style myself. But I'm upset about it because I shouldn't have to do this to a brand new wig. Has anyone else had problems with Leeke wigs? Or am I just unlucky?
My Haavamiel's wig (very long and curly) was rather frizzy from the moment I received it, but I think that with the curly wigs, unless you keep it in rollers all the time (taken out for meets and pictures of course), then you just need to deal with the frizzies. I'm actually looking forward to the day I have time to re-style my girl's wig, as some of the curls the wig has now are kinky...
Leeke's quality control used to be better but it's gotten extremely variable in the last year or two. Both the best and the worst wigs I own are from Leeke, sadly.
That's such a shame. Makes me a bit leery as well-- being as I just joined a GO for Leeke wigs. >_> Is it something that you might be able to fix somewhat with a hairdryer? Just a thought. I hope they get back to you soon!
Whoa, really? I only got a Leeke wig once but the quality was beyond outstanding. Pour some warm water on it and let it dry. That'll take care of those pesky stray hairs...
Sometimes the hair on smaller Leeke wigs doesn't lay flat the way it does on the same wig in an SD style, like they designed it for SD heads and didn't think about the way it would look on smaller heads. I've got a wavy wig on one of my girls that defies gravity unless it's pinned down.
I have wigs from several different companies, Leekeworld included. And these are by far the best I have in my collection - dense, with soft, easy to style hair, and very little frizz. Your case is something I see for the first time - and it is really frustrating. I hope they will agree to exchange it. But I'd like to add a thought about the curly wigs. They - especially those giant round curls all of us adore - tend to get frizzy in an extremely short amount of time. It's not just Leeke's, it's wigs from other companies as well, no matter how well they are packed and cared for. I sometimes feel that even _looking_ at it makes it go frizzy ^_^; The problem here is the hair structure. Unfortunately, it is only natural for a curl to go all frizzy due to friction, humidity, and tossing around. I do agree with you that it is not OK to get a brand new wig already in need of styling, but the problem is - how do we know that it left the company that way? It could just be inflicted during the travel, especially if the box was tossed around a lot. The wigs aren't packed in a way that they would remain totally immobile (I don't think it's possible, either), so they tend to slide, jump and get messy even from slight movement. I'm afraid that you've just ended up on the "unlucky" side of it all, and hope that you will be able to get a refund / exchange the defect wig.
I noticed the quality being hit or miss myself. Of the last 2 wigs I bought from them? Both had the wig cap showing through the fibers pretty bad and lots of frizzy strands. I'm just gonna hold off on wig buying from them until they fix their stuff.
Wig cap showing is a problem for all company I think. Even Volks I get that very often. If it's a wig with semi-long bangs or it's long in the front it happens A LOT. But it's a wig with long straight bangs that stops at the eyebrows this does not happen.
I got two a few months back and I was disappointed in the quality of them. One of them looked very little like the one I ordered, and the other has sewing issues with the wefts of hair being put in weird (causing tufts to stick up to) - but I love the color.
Leeke's has been getting really edgy with the styles so a lot of times you must do lots of styling to get the look from their photos. You don't just expect to put it in the doll and have it look exactly like the picture. Some of the wigs look very obvious that it is styled for the photo. It's just like getting a new hair-cut. Styling is required for a look, if not styled, it won't look that way. Even if you buy a wig for a human you need to style it properly you don't just put it on and go. And each wig will not look the same on every head shape and doll. I think this applies to any wigs.
Thanks for the input. I've been reading up on some wig styling tips and I feel less nervous about styling my curly wig now. I might just end up straightening it and save myself the aggravation. Curly wigs are soooo beautiful, but I had no idea how labor intensive they are to keep them that way! That white wig, though... There is definitely something wrong with it. No amount of styling will fix it because the hair that's sticking up is sewn in that way. :\
I got a Leeke wig through Denver Doll last month and it had problems like the wig cap showing in places. They offered to replace it if I couldn't style it to my liking, but it worked out after combing it out and removing the pre-tied ponytail. I was afraid to bother it originally because I was worried it would get worse. But knowing they would replace it if I was still unhappy helped a lot. I probably won't buy any more Leeke wigs unless it's a color I absolutely must have and can't find elsewhere. The only reason I got it in the first place was because of the LE color.
Update: Leeke said I could return the white wig for a refund. They were very nice about it! I'm a bit sad because I really want this wig in this color, but since I don't have the doll it's meant for yet, I'm going to take the refund for now. I hope they will offer the "Snow White" color again in the future...
I think 90% of the wigs I've bought from Leeke over the past four years I have had to restyle in one way or another, either because they've come looking worse for wear, or have had ridiculously long bangs that I've had to trim to see my dolls' eyes. I won't buy lighter colours from them because of visible wig cap issues I've seen on other people's dolls, and they stain quicker and worse than any other companies' wigs I've bought. I only buy from them these days if I can get a colour and style there that I can't get elsewhere. As someone who owns a lot of curly wigs, don't think that it's ruined. It takes some time and practice, but you can tame them back in to shape. It's worth learning how to do it because you'll need to do it every few months anyway.
I have a moderate good experience with leeke wig: I bought a yo sd size wig with light curls/waves all over and it 's impossible to let the hair frame the face nicely without a bunch of tiny hair pin holding the long bang. quite disappointing for a wig that didn't look in the end like the stylish picture. the amount of hair was ok, the quality of the fiber in itself is great too and the color "chocolate brown" too.but it definitly lacks of final shaping/design. +1 to Amet : they think to how it would look on bigger sd head but NOT on little doll
Wow, I'm very sorry to hear you have not had a good experience. I have to say that I mainly only buy Leeke wigs and have been very happy with them. They have always been full and silky, really lovely quality but then again I never buy wigs with curls so have no experience with them. I'm sure they must need extra care as already mentioned. I have only had two wigs out of many say at least 40 that was not to my liking and they were also smaller wigs (MSD size) one, the ends seemed to be cut at an odd angle and they stuck up unattractively...needed to use a hair ribbon with it. The other was the EXACT same wig that you show in this thread (but in pale blue), it does not stick up anywhere but is very sparse in many areas so that you can see the cap. All in all I have been more then pleased with their quality. I am very glad that they offered you a refund.
I've overall had very good luck with Leeke wigs -- I usually love the texture. I have had one exception where I didn't like the way it felt at all and it would get dreadful flyaways around the face. However, that's a wig that I bought several years back, so I don't know how representative it would be of their wigs now. My others I've liked *knock on wood* Of course if something is going to go wrong somewhere when it comes to putting together a doll's look, it always seems to end up being in the wig department.
A few years ago every Leeke wig I got was just like their photos and I had no problems. In the last year or so they've gotten more hit and miss. The problems have been with wildly uneven bangs or bangs that had more hair sewn in on one side than the other so it wouldn't lay flat in the front. Maybe they've had an increase in volume and quality control has suffered. I've found wigs are the most hit or miss frustrating part of the doll hobby so I've come to expect 50/50 disappointment.
i don't buy wigs from Leeke as their quality is not good(spending a lot of money but the amount of wig fibre is that less!) since they start to copy Classic Majesty's wig style i've seen a few style-copying wig and the amount of wig fibre is just horrible-___- only the old Leeke wigs are good, they don't need much styling!
that is unfortunate that you have had issues with Leeke wigs :/ I have purchased many Leeke wigs over the past few years, and have always found them to be really high quality. I never have to fuss with them much in terms of styling, and I haven't noticed anything like what you posted, with patches sticking out all wonky. In my experience, their customer service is very good as well - quick to respond, pleasant to deal with. I hope you can find a good replacement wig in the future...
Both my Leeke wigs are very good quality style-wise. However, I've noticed they generally need a good wash straight away because whatever they use to style the wigs leaves them feeling greasy and dirty.xP Once washed, they're nice and soft. I've also noticed this with Luts wigs, too.
Last wig I bought from Leeke was a disappointment for me as well. The wig base was black and showed through the bangs, is if the hair wasn't sewn to cover it properly. The wigcap also stain the forhead of my Chrom. The stain is not coming out with soap and water, so I'm going to have to take a magic eraser to it later. But that just sucks because it'll remove the msc. It's pretty annoying. . .
Stain?!?!?!? How long did you leave it on your Chrom? Was Chrom in the sun a lot with the wig on? I haven't really had wig stain problem but I don't leave wig on my doll for long..........and isn't Chrom dark skinned? It must be a bad stain ><
leeke wig cap did stain, my girl just had one on her head indoorr for a few days only, the wig cap already stained my girl's head -________-
My wigs from the latest preorder are all beautiful and thick - no visible wig cap issues even with side-parted bangs. I'll grab a photo tomorrow, perhaps. :3
This IS disappointing. I had wanted a bunch of Leekeworld wigs because they looked so awesome, but (luckily?) no one got me any - I say luckily because of what people have been saying about the quality. Hopefully their wig sales take a hit and they get their stuff back together.
Just a quick update: I did get my refund from Leeke for the defective wig. They even refunded the postage I paid to send it back. I'm happy with their customer service!
I own two wigs from Leeke, and I really love both of them. My newest was from a recent preorder, and I'm really happy with how it looks on my MSD. One thing, though. At this point, I've resigned myself to the fact that Leeke's wigs just run BIG. I had to modify both of mine to fit my boy's heads. The first one I got for my SD, I honestly kind of thought that they'd sent a wrong size, but nope, the second one was the same - too big. Ohwell, at least it's easy enough to modify them to fit. Too small would've been a major issue indeed.
I've tried emailing Leeke at the email address they list-- [email protected]-- but haven't heard from them. I'm trying to request an RAN (Return Authorization Number) so that I can return a wig that I bought from them.
Regarding Chrom:he is NS not tanned, and i agree with Meow, every saran wig cape stains the head of a doll,it's not a matter of weather nor for how much you let the wig on. I never had a single stain on my DZ head cape with the fur wig,all stains appeared after i let him wear for a short while a saran wig.
To those who had problems with staining, do you think that washing the wig would lessen it slightly maybe? Kinda like washing your clothes first before wearing so it gets rid of all the stray dyes that might've been used? Just wondering cause I have a shipment form leeke coming in >.< a friend of mine's got hers for a month I better ask if she has staining problems...
I received a large order of pre-order wigs from Leeke, and the only issue with any of them is that a D sized wig that ran a little large. Fibres are all nice and smooth and the styles are close enough to their promo pictures. ANY wig with a coloured wig cap can and will stain, not just Leeke wigs. The best way to combat this is simply don't leave the wig on your doll for extended periods of time, and if you insist on doing that, soak the wig in vinegar to help make it more colourfast.
Thanks, Kim. That's a good news, since i'm waiting for my pre-order wigs from them. Kinds nervous after hearing that their quality has been dropping.
Joining this discussion rather late but I had joined a GO last year for two Leeke pre-order LE wigs in 6/7. The color is gorgeous but one of the wigs was so ill fitting: the cap was too long and the last row of hair was too high up so I could see the cap no matter what way I styled it, which is limited since it's a ringlet style...I finally "solved" the problem by using a little flower hair clip to cover the bare spot. :-\ If they ever had another LE wig I loved I probably would order (through a GO) again but I wouldn't have high expectations. That's pretty sad though.
I prefer fur wigs by far. But I've been though a great many leekeworlds and only two worked outTT . I think most people nailed it. The volume of orders are overwhelming them and their quality is slipping away.
I'm usually very happy with my purchases from Leekeworld, but today I recieved a wig I'm very disappointed about. Here is a photo of it STRAIGHT out of the package compared to what it looks like on the website. Its hard to believe they are the same style number. Maybe with a bit of styling it could look decent...what do you guys think I should do? Return it or try to fix it? Did anyone else get this wig?
^that is heat resistent right? I think you need to comb it with your fingers and style it.......twirl it with your fingers a little. I've had wigs arrive to me this way all the time but can fix it easily. If you really can't do anything about it, maybe contact Leeke and see what they say ^^
..Just got my Leeke wigs in and I must say that the quality has gone down a lot over the years. :/ One of the wigs looks nothing like the picture, despite it being an L-size the model shows in the promo pics. I'll have to have it trimmed to get it remotely close to how it looks in the pictures. Compared to the SWITCH wigs I recently got, the overall quality is lacking. *sigh* I love their styles so much but lately it's been so hit-and-miss and I'm re-considering ever buying from them again.
I think the way Leeke wig will look on a doll has a lot to do with the doll's head shape! I have learned this throughout time XD I have some wigs that looked just down right terrible and ugly on certain dolls and I gave up (usually really bad on dolls with smaller heads). Then I receive a new doll and tried it and it looks and fits great. Then I was glad I did not sell the wig off. Head shape matters!
O noes... I did order that wig... Damn now I'm really worried about my order. Do tell me if you manage to style it a bit nicer... >.<
I've also been disappointed with Leeke, during the first half of 2010 I got at least some wigs with the wigcap showing through (badly) in every order I made. But it seems my last two orders during 2010 late autumn and Christmas have been a lot improved. All of the season limited (girly) wigs have been really stunning in real life and the wigcap has been properly rooted and covered with fibers. I noticed that Leeke styles the boys wig heavily and so naturally they look quite bland when arriving without any styling products in. (I did this large group order from Leeke from the last preorder and from what I seen without opening the other participants wigs, the feminine wigs look pretty much exactly like in the photos, while the more boyish ones basically all look the same, so if you're not expecting to have to style the wig you'd probably be disappointed. Though I'm sure that you could get it to look exactly like in the photos with some wig styling products or just plain water). This is just my experience but it seems that the quality in my orders have been improved lately, I hope it's the same for every one else
I've been looking at Leeke wigs but haven't ordered yet. I'm very glad I found this thread, I don't know if I'll order now till I start seeing consistantly better reviews......
I have purchased so many Leeke World wigs only to be disappointed over and over again. I keep thinking, maybe this time, this wig, will actually look like it does in the picture, but never once has that happened. One wig looked like someone took a pair of scissors and just started hacking away at it randomly. Another wig looked like someone sewed random bunches of hair in the opposite direction as everything else... Another wig was supposed to be a cute bob, but instead came as a giant curl that only sat on one side of the wig, the other side was straight... That's only to name a few, there were others... many others... Very, very disappointed.
I've organized and managed a LEEKE G.O. and we were 5 partecipants. Well 4 wigs of 7 were of bad quality. Beginning from mine in mohair. Well I ordered this model: and this what I received: Completely different, shorter and smaller -.- it doesn't fit.. and I think it would be too big also for a Yo-sd head! I got also a fiber wig but I hadn't problem with it, while the other girls who joined my G.O. ordered only fiber wigs and they had problems like these: the quality of the fiber is poor/bad; the wig is messy; there are too few hairs and infact the headcap is quite visible through; the size were wrong. We are all unsatisfied and very sorry that Leeke lowered its quality. I sent an email with my pics and another girl's pics. We're going to leave a negative feedback to the company!
Is there a certain size/type/style of wig that is more prone to bad quality than others? It would be helpful if people posted what type of wigs the bad ones were so we can compare them.
Leekeworld wigs for yo-sds usually come out badly. They need to be styled ALOT, in order for it to look like the sales picture.
I got a Leeke World wig (6~7) yesterday (I ordered it about a week ago) in the mail and i actually think it looks exactly like the promo pictures. It's super soft, and to me is exactly what i wanted. I'm sad to hear about other people getting things that are so far from the pictures... mine looks exactly like it from what i can tell (the girl it's going on isn't here yet so i can only look at it not on a doll) I'll have to see what it's like on her, but there aren't any gaps where the cap is showing and it's fairly flyaway free considering it's long and curly. Every time i've ordered from Leeke directly or purchased a second hand Leeke wig, the quality is stunning. I hope everybody gets their orders fixed up, i'd hate if my wig(s) came in such bad shape
I have to admit in recent years I've had similar issues with Leeke, they don't seem to be holding onto their quality control as well as they used to and I've had some come in that looked NOTHING like the sales photo's at all, something which used to be incredibly rare. I am hesitant to buy from them again, but the truly irking thing is that they're still basically the best at what they do...which tells you more about the poor quality of a lot of other wig makers than Leeke's sudden dip in things really.
A couple weeks ago, I received the wigs I ordered in Dec. It took longer as we ordered some of the limited colors. Of the four wigs, the long full wig in limited color is lovely. I bought LR-039 in two sizes. The 8/9 was like the photos though it seems a bit loose. The 7/8 made me sad as it was tight & the braids pulled awkwardly instead of framing the face nicely. But, I really liked the color & decided to see what could be done. By pulling & stretching the wig cap, it now fits my small headed SD much better. (The 8/9 was huge on her) Next, I clipped all the stitches which held the braids in place & carefully rebraided & twisted the braids back in place. Instead of stitching, I've pinned the braids in place till I'm sure its just right. Now, the wig is perfect for her! But it seems the wig stylist wasn't having a good day at work when they finished my wig & this made me hope work conditions are ok at the Leekeworld wig shop...
Gonna second this one. I am in a GO currently and my order was for an LR_056 in D size Whisper Blue and I hope it's going to arrive okay. :/
I was in the Elnuyn85 Go for leeke, when i got the wig i've noticed that the cape is quite visible, lack of saran fiber i suppose, but the most upsetting thing is that the wig came in a wrong size...i compared to the wig,in the correct size,of my twin sister $avage, mine is larger, and even if the style is almost as the one shown in pictures from company, i'm quite disappointed about the wrong size..what use i have for a 9/10 size wig? I've ordered this wig for my lady Notdoll..now simply i can't use it..i'm quite disappointed...
i'm in the same GO as well, i've ordere the same color different style, nothing to complain about size, and style, but and my wig actually comes in the same way, the netting/headcape is quite visible, aslo the quality isin't what i'm expected....

And I feel very sorry to our customers who received a wig with bad quality.
I loe my leeke wigs. A few have the wig caps showing, and it would not be so obvious if they used light flesh colored wig caps. Or wig caps similar to hair color and not black, or perhaps fuller hair in the front. But for the most part, the quality is very nice and I love my wigs. I especially love my mixed color wigs that also have streaks of other colors in them. Thanks!
