Reality TV Show

Jan 14, 2024

    1. Okay, so I'm just nearing the end of season one of Best in Miniature on CBC Gem, which is a competition reality TV show about making 1:12 dollhouses (recommend) and they keep being like "this hobby requires so many different skills" and I'm like "pfft."

So the pitch basically writes itself:

12 contestants from around the world compete for the ultimate prize of barely enough to cover a Starbucks coffee and the prestigious title of BJD Artiste Supreme!

Each week, contestants will have to prove they have the skills and creativity to master the diverse aspects of the BJD hobby:

      Sculpting
      Modding and Hybriding
      Faceups and Body Blushing
      Fashion Design and Styling
      Wig Making
      Eye Making
      Shoe Making
      Accessory and Prop Design
      Furniture and Set Design
      Stringing, Sueding, Wiring and Posing
      Lighting and Photography

Contestants will have their knowledge and craftsmanship pushed to the limit as they compete across a variety of scales and aesthetics to prove that they are...

      BJD ARTISTE SUPREME!!!

      You know you'd watch it.

    3. Host: Sorry ____ you are not going to be the next BJD Artiste Supreme. Hang up your elastic puller and leave.

    4. Oh I didn't know about this show, now I want to watch it :3nodding:

    5. What do y'all think the challenges would be? Here's some I came up with:

      - Photography: capture the most life-like, dynamic photos... with single-jointed models
      - Set design: each contestant gets a random fullset doll, has to make a backdrop to match
      - Restoration: take an old bjd and completely refurbish it—dolls are auctioned off at the end of the episode, the one with the highest sale price wins
      - Faceups: turn your doll into the "sibling" of a randomly assigned bjd, matching the style of the other faceup, but with your own twist
      - Modding: turn your doll into a fantasy creature... as decided by the winner of last week's challenge

I could go on, but let's stop there!

    6. @Luna_and_Stelladolls I'll let you know when we start holding auditions. ;)

@unoa_im_afreak You're definitely on staff as the bjd-related pun expert!

@Lutopienne It's pretty fun. One of the contestants has an online store where she sells teeny tiny pottery that she hand makes on a teeny tiny pottery wheel. I can't tell you how happy it makes me to live in a world where that's a thing.

      @babezoid Oooh... Good ones!

      - Photography/posing/lighting: get four expressions from the same doll as different as possible from each other.

      - Posing: most convincing/impressive representation of movement without external supports. (The drama of someone's doll falling over on this one would be TV gold.)

      - Mini-challenge: quickfire identifying sculpts!

      - All!: reproduce a famous celebrity photo.

      - Faceup/styling/posing: style two copies of the same doll as male and female. Biggest difference wins.

    7. The restringing challenge could include
      • restringing a doll blindfolded
      • how many different dolls can you combine to make the Ultimate Hybrid?
      • wiring/seeding speed run

    8. Ooh ooh! What if they handed you a big bucket of unsorted parts from a whole bunch of different companies and sculpts and you had to pick and choose and try to hybrid/mod them together? Maybe judged on minimizing joint seams and maximizing range of motion in addition to aesthetics...

    9. That’s what I was thinking :3nodding:
