RamCube 65cm boys Discussion

Dec 26, 2012

    1. RamCube has their new 65cm boys Hush and Craden for pre-order!!! There's also a newer version of the boys called "Thinner shower". Both boys look amazing!!

      Here's the link -

      http://ramcubedoll.com/index.php

I think this company is a newer or extended part of Rapa's Factory, but I'm not 100% sure.

    2. I REALLY want the ramcbedoll lLeopard Kyle but since they dont take layaway per their website that may not happen. Sadly.

    3. Yep they used to be Rapa's Factory! :3
Kyle looks brilliant! I have Ramcube Hush the Liger at home he is wonderful and poses like a champ, the Ram65 body is amazing!

    4. OMG you have Hush????? Please please post some pics of him!! I love the Ram65 body, these boys are such natural slouchers!! I've been eyeing Craden for quite some time now, he'll be perfect for this character I have in mind. Hopefully will be able to bring him home one day as my first SD boy :D

    5. Hush (whom I've named Hotaru) is my first SD and I'm so glad I chose him!
Here is a photo, it's not the best photo in the world but its the only non-blurry one I could find... (^_^')

    6. Kuropixelchick-- Love your Hush!

I've been considering Kyle, but wow, the lack of layaway makes that tough!

I keep picking out options and putting him in the cart to see... which is a bad sign for my wallet. But wow, he is pricey! *_*

    7. Crap. They will take a short layaway... I'm going to order Kyle... (like I need another doll! but, agh!, can't help it!).

    8. They do take short layaways? I'll have to keep that in mind.

    9. Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek ..... did anyone say short layaway????? Then I'm totally going for Craden!!! :aheartbea *as soon as my money tree is all grown up*

    10. It's great to know they start to accept layaway. <3
I'm considering their body, so nicely sculpted. And what I really love about Ram is their customer service. Their English isn't good but they gladly help with their best when I got problem before.

      @Kuro
Could you please review its body posability/stability? What things it could do? I have Ram16 which poses pretty amazing. :)

    11. You have to Q&A them to get permission for a layaway.

I was ordering a Kyle and they said they would take "splits" in payment but only up until the end of the selling period.

I'm not sure they will do that for dolls that don't have a set selling period.

But really--they'd sell a LOT more dolls if they did layaway!!!! I really wish they would do it for a couple of months. Their dolls are not cheap! --the big ones, anyway. *_*

    12. I'll do a review for the body over the next week or so when I have time. :3
Also, did you guys see the new zombie boy they put out today? (*_*)

    13. I'm waiting for the review~ :fangirl:

And.. that's R from Warm Bodies? Oh woww O_O I want to change the hair, everything else is almost perfect XD

    14. Heh... went to check the zombie boy and their site was down from all the traffic!

I'll check back later. Of course, I can't possibly get another doll, since I still have to come up with the half-payment for Kyle...! *_*

KuroPixelChick-- can't wait to see your review.

    15. They said that the body got locks on it?? on the joints is that true?? :O

    16. Zombie guy looked cool... but my money is gone into Kyle.

I don't know about locks on the bodies. But I guess I'll find out whenever Kyle arrives! ... I ordered my Kyle with faceup, but not the tattoo, although those were only $30... not too bad. I actually DO want to make similar jaguar markings on him, but I just wanted them to be slightly different in style... I was going back and forth about whether to order him default or not! Now I'm definitely stuck doing the spots on my own. I just hope I can do them decently...!

Oh, I started a Waiting Room for all Ramcube dolls. Not that there are many of use waiting! But I thought I might as well make a room. Hopefully there will be more people ordering dolls and waiting in the future.

    17. I'm really looking forward for your kyle to arrive <3 i want to know if the body can carry a msd size doll like granado's body with one hand or even both hand

    18. Well, it can hold brains! ;)

      Box opening!

Just got him, so haven't had much time to play with him yet. The elbow locks are fussy, but I'll get used to them.

    19. aernath--Love your guy so much! And that worn hoody is just so fantastic!

      --------------------

There have been a couple of new guys for sale since... but no new has joined the Waiting Room. The one just put on sale is pretty nice! I hope someone gets him and posts about it on DoA. I'd like to see the previous guy with the quirky smile, too, in owner-photos.

      --------------------
My Kyle has arrived, too. I'm still mucking about with blushing ears and getting him more together for photos...

I haven't been able to play about with him much, either. But yes, there are locking joints at knees, leg/body joint, and elbows. He could stand right out of the box. The joints held well in a straight upright position... the ankle joints felts a bit soft because of that, but I think some glue sueding might help--and he still stood just fine. Boots should help with that, too. Body joint at the hip wants to pop a little, but doesn't pop entirely, so that's ok.

He's sculpted in an amusing slouchy style, which is different, and kind of cool. Here's a photo from the box opening (not posted in a thread yet).
      [IMG]13-05-kyle_0681 by aprilllee, on Flickr

Oh, here's a shot of the leg/body joint... It's interesting-- doesn't show the actual ball-joint, which is a joint that often looks a bit odd to me--on other dolls. It seems to work well--although I'm gonna have to check it out more to see how they managed to do that!

    20. A little more zombie spam:
Getting his arm to hold up like that is a pain. To me, anyway. The forearm kept slipping off and popping back over the elbow bit.

I still loves him though! :)

    21. Finally, we have some sun and I could take some pictures.
I would like to present my two wildcat boys Leo and Tiger.
      I hope You like them.

    22. OMG OMG OMG ..... super mega awesome gorgeous!!! LOVE their smexy bodies!!! :aheartbea

    23. Love seeing your zombie-boy!!!

I've been trying to pose my Kyle a bit more, and I see what you mean about the elbow joint. I'd have thought with the double joint it would be easy to bend the arm, but it's not. Oh, well! Not a deal-breaker!

Oh, wow! You have BOTH!!! They look fantastic together!!!! :love

It is wonderful to see more Kyles! And your tiger-boy, too.

I like the spots on the body... I didn't get the spots put on my boy, but I might make some on him, too. They look nice. I don't think I noticed them in the company photos.

Here's another shot of my Kyle (whom I'm calling Yukio).
      [IMG]13-05-kyle_0743 by aprilllee, on Flickr

I have changed the spots a very little on his face... and painted slightly bigger spots on his arms... but it's not so different from the company painting/blushing. I tried to match the look... :)

    24. April, You did a wonderful job with the added spots. I would never guess they were not company made. You are really talented.
Alas, I am not. So, if I want something different, I have to ask the company to do it for me.
In that regard, RamCube is the best I have yet encountered in the market. I had tons of whishes to change things, especially on Kyle, my Leo. He has additional spots on his arms, legs, hands and feet. But he has not the black nails as I did not like them. For the ears I requested more beige color like in his spots, not the dark blue/black they offered.
I think they did an outstandig job to accommodate all my whishes. I am really happy with how my boys turned out!

And Hush, my Tiger, has additional stripes on his arms, legs, hands and feet, too.

I am totally in love with them!:aheartbea

    25. Wow. I didn't know they would change things, like customize the painting! (I guess I should ask companies such things--I just never think about doing this!) That is fantastic! :D

I painted the ears (well--just blushed them with pastel) on mine... It is easy for me to make things solid colors! I did not think I could do a good job matching the spots! But the small spots that were shown in the photos... I just wanted them a VERY LITTLE larger...! I knew it would bother me if I ordered them like that... and I worried that changing them would be more difficult than just painting them myself. But the spots were very easy, it turned out.

I had some liquid black acrylic (in bottles--used for airbrushing)... and just one small brush, and could just dab the black on at angles... and then use a little brown pastel to color the spots to match those on his face! It was more simple than I expected. And it was almost fun to do... because the strokes are just big and sloppy and I did not have to be careful. :D

I really like the extra spots and stripes on your boys!!! It was very smart of you to ask for changes. They both look fantastic!!! :XD:

    26. You guys with your fantastic cat-boys! They look like so much fun!

Time to update with a new shot of my zombie boy:

    27. Love-love-love your zombie-boy!!! Always nice to see more pics! :D

    28. Time to resurrect this thread! ;) I only came across the RaM Cube guys today, and I'm totally in love with Ren. Unfortunately, his sales period ended at the end of October! Does anyone know how often they offer limited heads again, if ever? Thank you in advance!

      • x 1
    29. @snowgray:
When I remember correctly, they stated that they will not rerelease standard models ever again (as a standard or regular looking guy). It is possible though that they use this head for future fantasy themed dolls like the catboys or the zombie.

I am really sad about that, too, as I wanted to order Ren. Unfortunately, I did not have the money during the order period. :(

    30. Alas! Here's hoping they're more like Iplehouse than Volks, and they give in and have those heads again!

    31. Maybe if you write them and request a re-release? Or a sort of basic release?

I think it's sad that so many dolls are so limited. It's not easy to have an extra $600 or more lying about just waiting for these surprise selling periods--particularly when RamCube wasn't offering layaways (they allowed me to split the payment as long as I paid up withing the sales period--which was just a month or less... gah! These companies just KILL me!)

Anyway, good luck in trying to get a Ren. He was a great-looking sculpt. RamCube really should re-release him...

    32. Yeah... I was not surprised there wasn't a thread in the Database for Ramcube before now.

I'll happily go over and add my Yukio (Kyle) on. Thanks for making the thread!

    33. Your boy is beautiful! I just got bitten by the RaM Cube bug and read a lot how hard it is to get a headmold once limited ordering period is done. I got Lakia. Maybe if we spread more of RaM Cube love they will do a re-release :p
Also this is the Flickr Group for RaM Cube. I seemed to be over-zealous >< As they say, you do things when you're in love, lol~

    34. Has anyone realized that ram cube zombie is pretty much the same as the main character on warm bodies?!!!! They totally copied the movie character! Even the hoodie (And the outfit)!!! He even looks like the actor! I wonder if they are allowed to do that without copyright infringement?!!! I love their dolls though..
      Here's a picture...

      http://screencrush.com/warm-bodies-trailer/

    35. Yep. We saw that.

It's not really a copyright issue. It comes close, but the doll is more stylized than an attempt to make it look like the actor. The company didn't use "Warm Bodies" or the exact character name in advertising. There isn't a similar doll that is an official product, so it's not causing the license-holders to lose money. Basically, you can't stop people from making dolls that sort of look like something else--otherwise we would all be in trouble!

With bjds, the actionable act would be to actually counterfeit/re-cast a doll. That is for-sure stealing someone else's work.

Also... it would be a pain if people started owning all zombie characters that were in a film or series, since then no one could have a zombie wearing a hoody, ever... or jeans... or what if you have a character in a ripped black t-shirt and then no one would ever be able to put a similar looking zombie doll in any sort of outfit of that has ever been worn by a movie or tv zombie character? You'd have to go around and check to make sure you never accidentally or on-purpose made a doll that looked like any zombie ever...

So, basically, it has to be copying something much more exactly, like re-casting. If that zombie character was wearing something super-distinctive (not just street-clothes), and had some distinct features that no one could mistake for anything else--THEN it is more an unethical issue... but legally, the license/copyright/trade-mark holders would just write a cease and desist letter... but this doll was already out of production, so that would be that.

So, no... a little sketchy, but not really a copyright issue.

      • x 1
    36. Ahh.. I got ya!! Thanks! I was wondering about that! But I do love their dolls! It's super nice!

    37. That's not to say that the person who creates a character won't get upset at a doll company, even if pursuing a legal case would be difficult. IOS (Immortality of Soul) made a doll that was "inspired" by a manga/doujinshi character. The makers of that doujinshi heard of it and got a little upset. To make things right, IOS had to change some things--like make the doll a more "official" product and probably pay something to the owners. The IOS people really liked that character and the artwork, so they tried to make things work with the original artists, instead of just ignoring them and telling them to sue them--or whatever.

So, it's a tricky issue! Companies like to be inspired, but don't want to be seen as stealing anything... if they can get away with it, they will try (but it's a risk!). The general public can give them a bad name if they are not careful, even if the copyright/trademark owner doesn't get upset, and even if there isn't really a legal issue. That's where ethics and good-relations and reputations can matter.

I think any company could be asking for trouble if their dolls look TOO much like a character that they didn't create... But it's not like most companies are getting rich by doing that... and they DO make their own sculpts... and most people aren't losing money... But people (copyright owners and buyers and public opinion) can still cause the companies grief if they do some sketchy things...

    38. Love the ram horns on the latest Ramcube boy...

    39. Aren't they great? I would so love to get him fullest in the tan! But...$1000 is too much for me right now.
He is a beautiful creature though! And I waaaant!

    40. Ha looks like the RaMcube bug bit me pretty hard today! Especially after seeing that little update about two new boys, didn't even know that company existed until now (still a N00b with companies *facedesk*)! Does anyone know of any resin matches for RaMcube though? I'd like to hope Faryland would be close enough to consider getting a FeePlea 65 body and making a few modifications, but it doesn't look like it's a close match at all (of course). That and I have a very difficult time differentiating resin tones for some reason unless they're like tan and white :?

    41. No idea for resin matches. I only have the white Benizarka zombie, and no fairyland dolls. :(

    42. ah oh well ha guess I'll just have to find out when the head gets here, my roommate has one so we can actually see them side by side instead of guessing with pictures ha. Maybe I'll do some resin comparisons just for anyone that may have similar questions :) thanks though!

    43. Hmmm... I have a ns fairyland and a ws ramcube! So no good resin=matching help here, either, I'm afraid... And there aren't a lot of Ramcube owners around. so it's difficult to get comparisons! :(

    44. I just got a shipping confirmation for my Lakia! And the new ones looks so 'oomph' too! I am wondering to take either white or black label, but if the black label i dont need the horns~ but if i'm getting the black label ver. iwould probably put the horns up for sale when it gets here.

but they do offer layaway! :3

    45. Yes, but I already have a lay away going with both Soom and Granado. :sweat

    46. I know how that feels, lol!

    47. Yeah... Just paid my last layaway for a Soom. I thought I'd be OK, but then I went to the KoreanBJD Show and fell into temptation! So no more monies for dollies for a while, for me. Probably not until Dollism in September, if I'm lucky... :(

I'm sure the horns would sell. (I'd be interested, for instance!) :D (geesh! I can't stop spending money!) *_*

    48. I know right?? I have the same problem, and when you kid yourself with layaway, you realized you're paying multiple dolls layaways months after!
I just wish sometimes, that they have release schedules like several months prior lol, so you can be prepared. Few companies making surprise announcement is fine,
but when almost all of them just notify you on the day they release it, you're stuck with, "i have no money now, but what if it's hard to find later??" :...(

    49. I SO hear you!

and layaways are EVIL! I tried to only do one layaway at a time, but I've had several going at a time. *sigh*

    50. I hate that the limited sales are usually only for a few weeks, and with no notice! This place in particular because once the sale is over, you know that sculpt is gone forever! No annual re-releases. No special events. Just gone. :(
They leave us no choice but to use lay away. If you want more than one doll that comes out around the same time. And they do seem to come out in clusters!
I'm finally down to just the two lay aways now,but earlier, I had quite a few going. When so many dolls come out and they're all limited... Argh!

So yeah, want black label guy,but darnit, no money and no prospect of getting him later. No marketplace sales later either, since this company doesn't seem to have a very big following yet.
      Argh! So frustrating!

    51. Omg this company

;A; Why didn't I find out about them sooner? Alright, actually I know exactly why: because I was going through a "meh" period on dolls and stopped checking up on news and DoA and stuff until recently. But still. Why couldn't I have gotten reinterested in dolls a few months ago??? Dammit. Ruin is great! Too bad he was limited and I guess looking at their history they tend not to rerelease but rather to do new sculpts. Bet he'll be hard to find secondhand, too, since it doesn't seem to be a popular sculpt.

I love Do a lot too and am having inner turmoil about whether to go for it. I don't like to buy on impulse like this, but I am having a heart catch in throat moment at the thought that if I don't move now he might be gone forever. He's so dreamy! Reminds me a little of Dia/Sard and Abadon, both of which were sculpts I once coveted, way back when. Well, I still have a week to think about it...

Saw a Hush head sales thread in the marketplace that said RamCube NS matches Volks NS well. This is promising, as I do have an SD17 boy and perhaps he could share bodies with Do.

ETA: On looking at the pics some more, I'm relieved to find I'm not that heartbroken over missing Ruin after all (not totally into his eyes at some angles, though then again I think perhaps it is because the eyes he's wearing are too large or two high-domed to fit the sockets properly). But Do is still a huge danger to my wallet! And I'm liking Lakia more and more as I look at him. It is so difficult to make decisions based only on official photos. I wish that they had at least put Do in an alternate wig style, I don't like his wig in either the black or white label shoots. And I wish his horns were available for sale with the normal skin option, sigh. The medium deep skin is undeniably pretty, but I want to be able to switch his head with my Volks body.

    52. I am very sad because I just found about this company now and I want a Tieria very bad :(
It seems impossible to get him v-v </3

    53. They are only sold in limited periods... and the company isn't hugely popular, so not many dolls are sold, so it's hard to find them in the Marketplace afterwards... BUT it's POSSIBLE. I swear only a few Black Leopard Kyles were sold (one to me), but I later saw someone put up the fullset for sale in the Marketplace... You have to really keep looking, though. LIke, search for Ramcube in Large Dolls every week or so... And nothing may come up for ages, but something might!!

I hope you can find the dolls you want!

And RamCube will always be making more dolls--so you never know--they may make something you really like in the future!

    54. April thank you for your replay. Yes the company is hardly noticed around which is very sad fact for me. I hope it is possible and I would get him one day in my home .. I truly love him and I am sad to know they won't produce the mold again O_O;; .. why !??!?

    55. Hi guys, would anyone have Ramcube's tan skin and could compare it next to another company's tan skin?
I would like to know what kinda brown he is~ thank you!

    56. Well, they haven't seemed to have done re-releases before... but with most all companies--it's at least possible they might do a re-release! But who know if they will or when??? *_*

    57. this is my hush, I was soooooo lucky to be in time to buy him ^____^

    58. Very cool to see him! Lovely photos. Looks so sad.

    59. YAY! More RamCubes! :dance Good to see him!
