I love Rainman's work and I totally love Blina. I miss Elfdoll so much, and wherever this girl will be sold, I'll be there.

Hey just dropping in to say about Blina, Rainman has said she will be for sale next month. There will be a faceup option too as he has a faceup artist set up and everything.

I guess we should probably move this discussion elsewhere though as he'll no longer be selling through Elfdoll and instead through this own website which he has mentioned somewhere on Instagram. I'll see if I can find it.

 

That'd be great news for me as I usually buy dolls blank anyway.

A new thread would probably be good ...

 

Ah yeah that's the site where he will sell her. The Cafe24 link. I forgot it was there in the front page.

And yeah maybe it would be but we'd have to start a new thread or ask the mods for permission to change this one or something. I don't know. It's just this is an Elfdoll thread and he's no longer associated with Elfdoll. Which is a shame of course, but I love seeing his new doll sculpts as well as his other sculpting work.

 

I would totally be happy to. Let me just look up how all that works. I've never done it before. Lol

Since Rainman pretty much was Elfdoll, I think keeping this thread would be good. The member who posted the first post on this thread is not active, so we would have to ask the moderators to change the title.

 

I don't think this thread was started by the first poster usually the last post of a last thread is used to start the new thread. Thus I think we need a moderator to change the name.

 

This thread will run out soon (they usually start a new one after 1000 posts or 50 pages), so maybe we can have the name changed then.

 

We separated out the posts. Knowing Rainman's quality, I don't think there will be any topicality issues, but the mod team will discuss.

 

@AirimirOfGondor I think what we would like (judging by what everyone seems to be saying) is to put the two threads together so that we can stay a more cohesive group. Maybe call it "Rainman Art Dolls" Or Elfdoll and Rainman dolls, because it's already such a slow thread with Elfdoll having been disbanded such a long time. That would make the thread inclusive and more lively and help it thrive Is that possible?

 

If Rainman is no longer attached to Elfdoll, then this new doll would not be an Elfdoll doll.
And threads are organized by company, so they would be better separated out.

I'm so glad Blina will be for sale! She's so striking and looks really versatile. Hopefully this marks a comeback for Rainman. He's been one of my favorite sculptors since I joined the hobby.

 

I've been following his Instagram since I discovered he had one.
I'm not gonna lie, I think his miniatures are awesome, but I was always crossing my fingers that he'd make BJDs again!

 

She is a very beautiful face, I am also happy she has a sleeping version. I find that I am becoming more in love with the sleeping heads because they look gentle

Has anyone purchased the figures from him before? I noticed some over seas BJD artists dont accept paypal, so I wanted to know if paypal could be used to buy his beautiful Blina

I read he will offer her in white and normal, I wonder what companies they will match

 

Rainman will release her next month! For what I know, the price will be around 120 USD blank, 220 with make up. If you get both versions (open eyed and sleeping) he will offer free shipping and a pair of sunflasses as a gift!!! I'm definitely getting her!!!

As for matching, I asked him and he said the head will fit the previous elfdoll bodies, but he's working in a new one since he doesn't work with elfdoll anymore. She will be released in normal skin (which matches elfdoll normal skin color, he says) only this time, but there will be more releases in the future. Ah and for those of you who asked, he will accept only paypal as payment method

Finally: eye size will be 10-12 mm and wig size is 7-8. She's on the small side for an SD sized head.

Oooh, if he can make the faceup look good as that rendering, I'd get the faceup!

 

Oh wow, I wouldn't have guessed that! I was thinking she'd be more on par with Super Gems from her proportions. Doesn't make me any less excited, though maybe I won't put her next to a Volks. :P

 

In his later works Rainman used to go on the realistic side and I think that since Hazy, most of his SD heads were more or less those proportions. I have Rita and Yuan and they both use small wigs and eyes. Though I must admit Blina's eyes seemed to be bigger in the pictures.

 

Rainman said soon he will provide pictures of her in a full body, I suppose he will post them in his instagram. That will help us to have an idea about her proportions.

About resin match, the problem with both Oasis Doll and Elfdoll as far as I remember is that there used to be batches of colors which didn't match between themselves... But I personally don't have much problem with that, I tend to solve it with blushing.

 

I always knew Rainman would get me eventually, haha. I'll be able to help a lot with resin matching if I can nab a Blina, given that I handle so many dolls.

For the resin-matching, other good options for that pinky normal type are april story and some of the chinese companies with 'pink type' ns options and supia. Normally you can stay within 90-98% match that way (recent oasis dolls have been more yellow).

Not joking is how hard it is to see something awesome, then have to wait just to buy it, then wait to get it home, LOL. You'd think we, or I should say I would be a patient person from being in this hobby, but nope! Never gets easy!

I look forward to seeing her on a body so we can get a sense of proportion. I have another floating head that is 19.5cm (7.7"), and if they could share bodies that would be great!

I think I'll be waiting for the white skin preorder, since if she does fit on the body I have in mind it is a Dollshe/Dollstown Fresh color and most "Normal" skin colors seem noticeably darker. I can probably blush a white head to match Fresh.

Buying method is quite simple, though please take care since payment doesn't lead you to a paypal page. Once you place your order you'll get an order confirmation which gives you a paypal address. I made the payment after getting that page and used the order number as reference. I will let you know as soon as I receive confirmation.

 

I actually placed my order 6 hours ago and contacted rainman because I didnt get an email confirmation.. I thought maybe it was up much earlier, so I placed my order worried she might sell out. He told me it was a mistake she went up early and fixed it to be up in the correct time lol...

My status still shows as awaiting payment, but he did confirm that everything was fine. Probably the status will be manually updated later with an email confirmation maybe.

Very excited for this order, I got both heads and will modify the sleeping head to be a little bit open, like a dreaming eyes. Excited for those amazing sunglasses I will put her on the model SID body, and will get his body if he releases one later for his dolls

 

Wow you were fast! I saw the page opened 4 hours ahead on time and I wrote to Rainman asking if it was right to order so soon but he said please to wait until 00:00 Korean time. If all of us were so impatient as you and me, I bet he will find a lot of sales when he wakes up (I think mine was number 20, BTW XD)

I had a fever so I was hallucinating and my mind is groggy, I wasnt sure what time it was and I just refreshed the open tabs with one eye open and saw the page and went oh ok time to order. Seeing the order page made me open both eyes to make sure it was real and it wasnt a fever hallucination XD

Mine is number 3X in the order number so either there were 3X people who ordered before or its just a random number

Im am sure and happy this preorder will be a success, his work is beautiful and there are many that make amazing male doll sculpts, but for female doll sculpts, theres a certain look that is popular, so it is very refreshing to see RainMan back again and make something distinctive and different

@Rook_Sever I sent him a DM because after I made the order I saw it wasnt even OCT 3 in Korea, and was worried I ordered wrong and that it was going to be voided

I didnt get a confirmation and still dont have it, and when I check the order status, it still shows order awaiting payment. I think this is the case for everyone, and that the order status will manually change later. I think as long as you have your order number in the message of the paypal payment, you are okay

 

It's good to know he's getting a lot of sales.

Yeah the email confirmation system isn't working. I'm not concerned though. I did the same thing y'all did: placed order, went to paypal and send payment with the order number in the notes.

For anyone confused, my understanding is that she'll be available for today and the two days following (3-day order window).

 

What exactly are you guys doing in order to use PayPal? (The lack of encryption on the site means I definitely want to go the PayPal route too if I do jump on this)

 

You place your order and as soon as you get the order placed page you'll see a paypal address in the first lines. Use that paypal address to send the total amount and put as reference your order number. My order is already noted as paid, and Rainman will send confirmation emails in a couple of days

 

Aha! Thanks if I do jump on this order I'll do that.

(And thanks the caution is more webpage than anything. I know Rainman has an excellent reputation, from the other half of this hobby, the action figures. It's the site itself that's a little worrying.)

 

It's absolutely amazing to see Rainman back....

If you scroll down the order page there are a lot more pictures of the blank heads a couple of shots using one of the original Elfdoll bodies. My first Elfdoll Emma came on a version of that body ( as did Ryung and Sooah) so looking like Blina is not the smallest of Elfdoll heads.
Congratulations to everyone who is getting Blina this time round!

 

Just to clarify for anyone new to this situation, Blina is not an elfdoll. DK (CEO at elfdoll) and Rainman officially parted ways a while back, thus the separate platforms, and thus the mods keeping the threads separate. I've been watching Rainman's reactions to attempts to slot this girl in with his old work, and it seems clear he's trying to keep this separate, just that a rainy body is what he had on hand. He mentioned a new body as well, which is exciting.

My girl will go on the new dollstown 17 vision body. The build suits these longer more mature features, and the neck measurement is spot on. Will definitely share the hybrid results pre and post painting. If anyone has specific requests for references let me know. I note these things down (I have the original DT 17 body which is more athletic and less willowy and a limhwa body too, I have other small semi-realistic korean artist heads to compare her with as well, plus a whole range of natural resin colors here).

 

@rianne - I'd love to see Blina on that DT17 body!

As far as I know Rainman hasn't indicated an exact measurement for Blina - just that she fits in a 7-8" wig, but if I buy the heads I want them to be able to share a body with my Black Cherry Aishat heads. Aishat is 19.5cm / 7.6" and her body will be either a DT17 or the 26F body that I'm still waiting for (sigh haha ).

I confess I'm kind of hoping that maybe, with Blina's larger features she might be able to work with the Dollshe 26F hands that I love so much. Aishat's head is technically large enough to work with them, but her features are so delicate that the hands seem pretty masculine compared to them.

Anyway, I think I'll be waiting for the white skin preorder, since I think it is more likely to match Fresh (or can be blushed to match Fresh skin) than the normal skin.

 

@StellaMarigold yeah feature ratio, face length, etc is definitely more important in determining the final look than simple circumference (heck, my dollshe amanda has a 'smaller' head than my bimong dandelion based on simple circumference). The fact that Blina looks distinctly stylistically inappropriate on the rainy body is a good sign for the DT/Dollshe type hybrids. I can pop mine on both 17 type bodies for you if you like. The Limhwa body might be useful too since it's a very standard size (same size as the rainy body over-all).

I'm assuming that Rainman will sell the heads again in the future in normal/white colors (hope so!). I would love to see yours on the Dollstown bodies so I can get a better idea if it would work before I order. I know you had a pale skin26F body at one time (I believe it was for sale recently) - perhaps if you still have it when your Blina head arrives you could try it as well?

I looked up the Rainy body and it seems to be about 58cm? So that was helpful - the head definitely doesn't look right with that shorter body. 63-65cm sounds good.

 

A new body would be excellent .Maybe it is just as well I can't join in at the moment, but I am super excited to see what everyone does with their Blinas!

 

He is working in a new body, or so he said. Unfortunatelly as rianne has said, he parted with Elfdoll and now he's working solo. That's why he had to use an old body for the pictures, it was the only one he had at hand (I think he said it was Lydia's body, and Lydia is quite an old sculpt). For what I see, the body in the pictures is the old small bust one.

I'm sure the new one will be much more fitted to Blina's features and, of course, to new sculpts I hope he will continue making!

@StellaMarigold , there will be more sales in more colors. This is his first one and I think he's trying to check the market again to see if (and how) he can return.

Seems like Dollstown17 will be a common body for Blinas, cause mine is supposed to use this body too!

Yay, I'm ordered both version now I'm so excited! I'm glad that this head so small, because she seems big on the photos. Thinking about Supia body..? Very interesting to see more hybrids with this beautiful heads.

 

@jack_sea cool! Hmmm, I have old Supia body, but I think it is too short for this head? If they'll fit, I'll save my money

We are now in the "When will my head arrive!" ship

I plan to change the sculpt of one of my characters (which happened to be an elfdoll head) so I hope she fits the same body. It is an Angel Of Dream body. If not I guess the search will begin.
