[Adopted] Raccoon Doll Discussion

Aug 19, 2015

1. Discussion for the new company Raccoon Doll - they have just released two 44.5cm girls, Sarah and Lucy.

...And don't they look amazing! :D

They come with large or small bust, and normal and high heel feet. Looks like there is a category for male and female dolls, but no males are released yet - hopefully something for the future!

So, lets all discuss it here! Anyone going to go ahead and order? I wonder what dolls they would look good next to? I'm thinking dolls with smaller heads, Withdoll perhaps? Let us speculate wildly! :D

2. I have to admit I'm tempted by these two - loving the fact that they're mature MSDs too. :aheartbea I can't quite decide which sculpt I like best, but I think I'm currently leaning towards Sarah. The body shape is lovely, I can already imagine her in one of those 50's retro dresses with the flared skirt and belt.

3. Oh, I'm so glad someone started a thread for these girls! Even though I want both, I'm going to be good and order only one at first. But which one? Right now I am also leaning towards Sarah. In her Type A makeup she reminds me very strongly of Iplehouse nYID Vera.

I read that face-ups would not be offered (http://bjdcollectasy.com/2015/08/17/raccoon-doll/), but when I tentatively put Sarah in my cart last night I was offered a choice of face-up. It also surprised me to see that choosing the no shoes option carried a charge of $50. It appears there may be a few things on the website that need to be tweaked.

I wonder how difficult it will be to find clothing that fits. The 50's styles are fun but I prefer modern. Hopefully she can wear slim mini clothing, because she's too curvaceous for MSD clothes and too big for fashion doll clothes. Her measurements are very close to Dollmore Judith Girls. It's a bear finding clothes for them, too.

4. Yeah I'm getting the Iplehouse Vera vibe from Sarah too. That's probably what's drawing me to her actually as I never bought Vera and wish I had. I didn't think faceups were an option either but I'm glad they're offering them after all, Sarah's A makeup is really pretty. I think the website is still in a bit of a setup phase right now, I notice that the clothing and shoes can now be bought along with the doll. I think clothing-wise it'll be those hips that are the problem so stretchy clothes that fit Judith girls might work - have to admit I was surprised when I looked and saw a complete lack of stuff on Dollmore's website. I hope Raccoon Doll puts up some more clothing for sale soon. Also, I don't yet own an MSD sized doll so I don't know what to expect, but that feet length measurement - 4.4cm - seems really small to me.

5. Hi there!
I'm about to order one of this beauty too, but I'm still hesitating which one !! Both is not very reasonable!
Everybody is talking about how they remind them of Iplehouse. I find it's true for faces/makeup, but I think the body is still quite different ... Do you know if the designer was working for Iplehouse before?

About the price of options, I was confused too, but it seems for all the options you choose(makeup, clothes ..) , the price appears in the shoes choice menu... So I think nothing is offered (not makeup nor clothes or shoes... :pout:.

And I hope they will made boys that are as mature too, it would be great to have in MSD size!

6. Mature MSDs! I'm sooo happy since there aren't that many of them.
I love their proportion. I'm really tempted to order Sarah, but I usually only collect boys.
(...or she'll become my first female doll if I lose control)
I think male ver. of Sarah would also look great. :aheartbea Can't wait to see their male dolls. :)

And my first thought right after I saw Sarah's pictures was "Iplehouse" too.
The sculptor said he/she has experience in doll designing for about 10 yrs
so there is a possibility that he/she might have worked for Iplehouse before...

7. My first thought was that the sculptor must have designed some dolls for Iplehouse. I missed out on Vera so I think that is what's drawing me to Sarah, too. Even the body reminds me of nYID Vera with its narrow waist and large hips and thighs. It's more obvious when you look at the photos which show the dolls naked. They're in the Gallery on the website.

As for shoes, I'm hoping she will fit into shoes made for Ellowyne Wilde. I had a FairyLand Chic-line girl who was able to wear Ellowyne's shoes, but they were a bit big on her. The C-line's heel feet are 4.1 cm long, while the Raccoon's heel feet are 4.4 cm. Sounds like a match made in doll heaven--on paper at least.

Dollmore says the Judith Girls can wear MSD clothing that is stretchy or loose on top. So far I am not finding that to be the case. I bought a dress that is all stretch on top but her big bust won't hold it up. The top shifts and slides down.

I'm also eager to see male dolls. If the girls are anything to go by, they will be fabulous!

8. I love the body style and Sarah is very lovely indeed, so hoping I can get some extra money. I wonder what size clothes they can wear as well. So far the trend for mini size girls is slim, and these lovely ladies have some serious curves.......I love curves..

9. Another mature mini with serious curves is the Luts Model Delf. I compared measurements. Model Delf's largest bust size is 19.3 cm, just a tiny bit bigger than Raccoon's smaller bust size of 19.1 cm. Model Delf's waist is 13.4 cm, a tiny bit bigger than Raccoon's 13 cm. So far, so good. Then we get to the hips: Model Delf's hips are 20.8 cm while Raccoon's hips are 23 cm. Full skirts shouldn't be a problem, but straight skirts and pants won't fit unless there is a lot of ease built into the pattern. The main issue in buying Luts clothing for Raccoon girls is that the good stuff sells out and isn't replaced, while things that are supposed to fit both Model Delf and Kid Delf look way too young.

As for Luts shoes, the inner foot length on Model Delf heel shoes ranges from 5.5 cm to 7 cm. I'll need to see how the Ellowyne Wilde shoes fit before I venture into Luts territory.

• x 1
10. Oh that's a shame, but at least Luts tops may be an option. Looks like it really will be tricky finding things to both fit and suit these ladies. I think I'd probably end up attempting to sew clothes to fit them if I get one of these dolls because I don't see myself finding the right style of clothes in the right size already available.
But I suppose that's the price for such a lovely curvy body shape and I'm so pleased that they're available as I too am a fan of the curves, and I've been waiting for a while to find an MSD that looks less child-like. I won't be getting one just yet as I kinda feel I've gone a little crazy this summer, so I'm going to wait and see what appears in the winter events for various companies and then decide which dolls to buy.
Argh, I hate having to wait! :XD:

11. I hate waiting, too. In my case, I'm only waiting for someone to pay me the next installment on a layaway, but every day feels like a week when you have plans for the money.

I'll probably be sewing for my girl, too. Problem is I have absolutely no talent for drafting patterns. I have to find a pattern that's close and then try to modify it to fit. Sometimes it works, sometimes it's garbage.

12. I've seen some of your creations on your blog vermont chick and I think they've all come out brilliantly. I've often thought about buying some clothing patterns but when it comes down to it I think I'm far too stubborn - I'm always make things more difficult for myself! I'm just starting to mess around with pattern drafting but it's still a bit of a mystery to me. I've found a few simple tutorials that require only really basic patterns and they've mostly turned out okay, and I've also used the technique of wrapping the doll in cling wrap & masking tape and drawing the pattern directly onto them - definitely an easier way to get a rough idea of the pattern shape than trying to work it out on paper. I'm actually considering taking a short course/workshop on basic dressmaking skills just so I can understand better how it works. It might also help motivate me to sit down and actually make more clothing since the thought of having to work out the pattern first always kills my enthusiasm for sewing ideas.

13. Thank you for the kind words, Zaliayn. I normally don't show the bad ones on my blog, only the ones that finally worked out! I've considered trying that cling wrap and masking tape technique, but frankly it scares me. Just like trying to make a wig cap by slathering glue over cling wrap scares me. I can follow commercial patterns just fine unless the instructions are wonky. Of course the patterns for the styles I like best are usually the ones where the instructions might as well be written in ancient Greek for all the sense they make to me. I think taking a pattern making or dressmaking course is a great idea. I would do that myself if I could find a course near me.

I just sold an outfit. (Not anything I sewed!) I may just have enough money to order Sarah. Now I need to decide definitively between face-up type A and type B. Problem is I like them both.

14. Hi!
After some debate with myself, I have finally ordered the "Lucy" :dance
I choose the big breast option, make up B (red lips!) and the uniform.
Has someone else order one of these dolls too?

15. Congratulations Poulette!

I am almost ready to order, if only I could decide between face-ups for Sarah.

BJDcollectasy has an interview with Sang Yoon Choi (Raccoon) today: http://bjdcollectasy.com/2015/08/23/raccoon-doll-2/
She has another female head coming soon. The first male won't appear until next summer. It's a very interesting article!

• x 1
16. I did it! I placed my order today. Sarah with type A face-up and small breast. I'm already having second thoughts about the face-up. Maybe I should have ordered type B instead. It's early enough that I can probably email Raccoon and ask her to change it.

I'd love to know where she got her wigs.

17. Ooh, congratulations to those who have ordered her! I can't wait to see owner pics!
I wish I could get one myself, but I don't have the money right now - but the future could be another matter! I would LOVE to sew for her so much, I really adore those proportions - and that she looks like one of the beautiful SD scale dolls, but is in MSD size, which is always the grail for me. I would love to make her so much pin-up style clothes...

I think, for those considering buying clothes for her, that separates would probably work best - I would think standard size stretchy tops would fit her fine, as long as they're not for slim minis, but larger size bottoms. She looks sort of similar to JID Iplehouse measurements which are Bust 22/21/19.5 (glamour, large and small), Waist 15, Hips 22, vs the Raccoon doll Bust: 20.2/19.1 (large/small), Waist: 13cm, Hips 23cm. So she's similar, but a much smaller waist. Also, there might be the possibility of some fashion doll clothing fitting - the Tonner Deeanna body is Bust 20.5, Waist 14.5, Hips 22. So perhaps something with a fuller skirt might fit? I know Designs By Jude make sewing patterns for the Deeanna doll, so for those thinking of sewing for her, that seems like it could work well as a starting point!

Aargh, now I want one more than ever, having discussed the sewing possibilities! D:

18. Oh that's cool Vermont Chick !
I really like Sarah with make up A, and I was hesitating with her!
Thank all of you who are researching about clothes, that will be helpful! And thanks for the link to the article!

19. vermont chick , ya better be bringing her to meetup when she gets here!

20. Ya better believe I will! Actually, I think she might come in less time than advertised. I got an email this morning from Raccoon saying she would start on my doll right away. It would be so cool to have her in time for our Halloween meet-up! (Especially as it comes a few weeks before Halloween.)

I emailed back that I would like to change Sarah's face-up to Type B (the pin-up version) and she replied that she will do it. Now I'm shopping for wigs. I think Facets by Marcia will be my best bet. That will also be a good source for shoes, if Ellowyne Wilde shoes fit her. I'll know that once Sarah gets here.

@ morganatron, I already have clothing for JID girls, so I will be able to try stuff on when she gets here. I'm hoping some of it will fit--at least that will give me something to build on. I only wish someone would design patterns for JID, because adapting other patterns is always hit-or-miss. What I'd really love is a few sexy corsets!

21. That's good news Vermont Chick!
I hope I will receive the same mail ;)
I don't know the wig shop you are talking about. Is it better than Monique? Maybe I will make an alpaga wig for her.

22. Nice article. The nude pics really sold me on the doll. She didn't actually say it but from her style it looks like she worked for Iplehouse

23. Facets by Marcia sells mostly Monique wigs. Sometimes she has colors or styles that are unique to her shop but don't appear on Monique's website.

I think I received an email from Raccoon because I had left a comment on my order.

I suspect Iplehouse, too. If you look at nude photos without face-ups, Lucy shows a bit of Bibiane, Stella, Violet, Grace, maybe even Scarlett--and her profile reminds me of Bliss. With the regular face-up she even looks like Chris.

There is a link in the Reviews section of Raccoon's website to a Russian blog, along with a photo of Lucy next to a JID girl. (I think it's Kassia.) I'm not sure how well JID clothing will fit Raccoon girls. Lucy and Sarah really are more like miniaturized nYID girls. Too bad the photo didn't include an nYID girl, too.

Also I went back to the BJDcollectasy article this morning, only to see that the reference to "her" had been changed to "his." Oops!

24. It's hard to tell how the JID clothing would fit, even looking at the comparison photos. From the waist above the fit might not be too bad but the lower body is quite different in size. So skirts, maybe. Trousers, unlikely. I suppose we'll find out soon enough what fits.
I definitely agree about them being mini nYID girls, which I think is great as I love the nYID body. So pleased to read that Sang Yoon also wanted more mature & realistic looking 1/4 dolls. I wonder what the next sculpt will look like.

Congratulations Poulette and vermont chick! I can't wait to see them when they arrive, I hope they don't take too long. *really wants to see more photos of them!*
Argh!!! I want to buy one soon, although I still can't quite decide who. I like Lucy with the A makeup, although those red lips are gorgeous, and I think I prefer Sarah's A makeup. I'll have to wait and see the faceups on everyone else's dolls before I can decide properly I think. There's too much waiting in this hobby for me! :XD:

25. I have been searching since this afternoon for the number of days it takes to make the doll. I thought I saw it on the website but I can't find it now... Ah, found it! It's 30 to 60 days. I'm hoping that since only 2 of us here have ordered so far (although who knows how many more off-DoA) it will take closer to 30 days. Raccoon's email to me did say the doll would be made right away and sent ASAP. I promise lots of photo spam, even if she doesn't have clothes.

You know, Zaliayn, if you take too long to make up your mind there will be a third head to make your decision that much harder.

26. I know and I also heard mention of tan skin too... sometimes I really wish I could be more decisive! Well... I've still got a couple of weeks to decide if I get one now or try to remained disciplined and get one later! :XD:Either way, I look forward to the mass photo spamming in a couple of months or so.

EDIT: You know what, I'm going to order one. I've done some planning and I reckon I can afford to buy one now. And in all honesty I can't wait long enough for the winter events to start. I think I may go for Lucy, but I'm still torn between the faceups. I'm currently doing some photoshop meddling to try and see what wig colours would suit each option. With any luck it might help me decide.

27. Ooh, congratulations to those who have ordered! Can't wait for the photospam, vermont chick! :D
Looking forwards to seeing what clothing fits them too - I'm just really hoping someone who has fashion dolls gets one, and can try the Deeanna clothes on - because there seems to be a lot of retro styles for that doll, and I think it would look great on her!

And congrats Zaliayn on deciding to get one! I can't wait to see photos of how everyone styles their dolls! :D

I see the Raccoon Doll flickr has photos of the blank heads, which I find really helpful for deciding on which sculpt I like best. Uh, for the doll I am totally not going to buy right now. D:

28. I still haven't quite decide who to get just yet, but I've finally decided that if I get Lucy I'll choose the B version makeup (I just can't get over those red lips!) and for Sarah I'd go for the A makeup. So at least that's one decision made!
If you look on the Raccoon Doll facebook page, there are pictures of Lucy's blank head too. I think they've only got Sarah's on flickr right now. Both of them are such lovely sculpts even without the faceups.

29. You're getting closer Zaliayn! What will it take to push you over the edge so that you hit the buy button?

I wish I could find what's left of my fashion doll clothes. I put them away somewhere--months ago--and can't find them. I also have a few things for Franklin Mint dolls and would love to see if they fit.

30. :lol:I'm terrible at making decisions, it always takes me ages to make my mind up.
Out of interest, I asked Raccoon Doll how wide the feet are for these dolls - "Foot size is 1.9cm x 4.7cm. I have several fashion doll and it fits nicely on Sarah and Lucy. But I'm not quite sure about which bjd has same size."
I don't have any fashion dolls at the moment, but it might help one of us in finding possible shoe options.

31. That must be the flat foot because the length given earlier was 4.4cm, which I assume is the heel foot. I don't have any flat shoes for fashion dolls, but I do have basic pumps for Tyler Wentworth (Tonner). And unlike the clothing, I do know where the shoes are. I know I mentioned Facets by Marcia for wigs earlier; she also carries a large selection of shoes for fashion dolls in a variety of sizes.

32. That would make sense if 4.4cm was the heel foot (I occasionally forget that female bjds tend to have 2 different foot measurements lol) As far as actual bjd shoes go, I haven't found any the right size that aren't YoSD sized, and therefore styled like children's shoes. There are some lovely shoes available on Facets, just looking at them makes me want to buy a fashion doll - I've discovered that I have a complete weakness for doll shoes
I wonder which will be the best fit for Raccoon Doll feet. I might try asking Raccoon if he has any recommendations.

33. Raccoon says he has fashion dolls. It would help a lot if we knew which ones.

34. I asked which fashion doll's shoes would fit and Raccoon said he wasn't sure which ones they were as he bought them several years ago, and suggested also looking at shoes for mini dolls such as baby bjds. He didn't mention which fashion dolls he had so it could be that he doesn't have the actual dolls, just the shoes. I get the feeling we may just have to wait until these ladies start arriving before we know for sure.

35. She's here! She's here! Sarah is here! And it took only 3 weeks from placing the order to receipt. Box opening is here: http://www.denofangels.com/forums/s...coon-Doll-Sarah-First-Doll-from-a-New-Company.

Let me tell you right off the bat, Ellowyne Wilde shoes do not fit. Sarah's feet are too wide for them. I wish now I hadn't sold the Evangeline Ghastly shoes I had--they might have fit. I've got Sarah in Iplehouse JID heels, which are a little big but should fit better once I cut felt insoles for them. And it appears that the heels are the longer feet; the flat feet seem to be slightly shorter.

Sarah is so pretty! I'm over the moon in love with her. So glad I asked Raccoon to change my face-up request to B instead of A. She is taller than I expected. With heels on she is taller than my Luts Model Delf boy. I'll have to pretend that he likes his women tall and doesn't mind looking up to his girlfriend.:XD: I'll take photos of them together tomorrow.

Now I need to buy wigs. She is wearing a 6-7 that is too small for my other dolls and I had to add a wig cap under it. The headband that came with the Sadol outfit she's wearing is obviously designed for a larger head because it keeps slipping off. Maybe it will stay on with a wig that has more hair.

36. Wow that was quick! And she's so pretty, the faceup is beautiful!
It looks like the shoe mystery may be solved at least partly then. It's a shame the Ellowyne shoes don't fit, but those Iplehouse ones look very good on her even if they are a little big. Felt insoles! That's a great idea! I'll have to keep that trick in mind for the future ;)
She's stunning, so I'm sure your Luts boy won't mind too much about the height difference between them! Can't wait to see what they look like together, and if you have time I'd be interested in seeing what she looks like next to other MSD dolls too. I'm curious to see just how different they are proportion-wise.

I didn't order in the end. I was still deciding between Lucy and Sarah and then as so often happens, along came another doll  I still plan on getting one of these girls (perhaps even the third sculpt yet to be released) but for now they'll have to wait in the queue.
Congratulations vermont chick! I look forward to seeing lots of photos of her! <3

37. Oh my god she's already here!!! You lucky girl!!! She's so pretty! I've seen the box opening too, it's funny you have the number 2 certificate!
Thank you for the tips about the shoes!
I'd like to see her next to your other dolls too
My order status has change to "queued for shipment"
:dance

38. Poulette, you must have the number 1 certificate because I think you ordered a few days before I did. I don't know why mine shipped first, maybe because I didn't order any clothing?

I lined up a number of different Minis so everyone could see their relative sizes. Left to right they are MiniFee Shushu, Bimong Narae Butterfly, Dollmore Judith Suntan Zinna, Raccoon Sarah, Iplehouse JID Daniel and Luts Model Delf Avalanche. All four girls are wearing heels but Sarah is still taller than everyone. She also has the smallest head. The others are 6/7s and 7/8s. I want to try the MiniFee heels on Sarah, but I am putting it off because those tiny buckles were so hard to fasten. I'm almost hoping they don't fit--FairyLand shoes are quite expensive and I don't want to have to buy another pair!

I also photographed Sarah with an Iplehouse nYID girl so you can see the similarity. I'll post it later as we can't do multiple photos in the same post.

39. Ooh wow, congratulations vermont chick - she arrived so fast!!! How gorgeous she is!!! That is so awesome to see owner pics already - wow, she is so gorgeous, she's definitely shot to the top of my "want to buy" list! :D

Thanks so much for taking the photos too, that was the number one thing I wanted to see before I decided if I would get her - how she looks like next to other dolls. I was worried she'd look disproportionately tall and small-headed, but actually I think it still works! She looks tall, but still totally in proportion, not like a SD next to a MSD or something. :) And I think the head does look smaller, but I think she would work well with similarly proportioned dolls - would really love to see her next to a Withdoll but I don't know that anyone ordering will have one!

Ooh, and I never thought of adding felt innersoles to too big shoes - nice one! What a great tip - will be using that in future! :D
I'd be interested to know how similar the foot size is to Minifee and Narae, if the fashion doll shoes don't fit. Facets By Marcia have a "slim MSD" shoe section which seems like a possibility - they also have quite detailed fit guides for various fashion dolls and which shoes they fit, so if anyone can work out which foot size she is nearest to, that could be very helpful! :D Damn it, I have quite a lot of fashion doll shoes myself that I bought for Chicline, and some are definitely too big, so I wonder if they would fit... oh well, no help without the doll on hand!

40. I tried the MiniFee high heels on Sarah and they do fit, although they didn't go over the stockings that came with the Sadol outfit. They should fit with a thinner stocking. The only trouble is how few choices FairyLand has. You can get matte black or shiny black. I don't have any MiniFee flats to try on her, but before changing her feet I tried a pair of DollinStyle shoes (sold by DDE) and they fit pretty well. (They'd fit better with insoles.) DDE doesn't seem to be replacing the colors that have sold out. All they have left are red, pink or white. I think that now I have her in heel feet she's going to stay that way. It took me the better part of a half hour to change feet--I couldn't manipulate the tiny S-hook into the foot and then over the elastic. And that was using jewelry pliers! That little hook kept getting away from me.

Just as an aside, I have two Naraes with different body styles. Their feet are not the same size. I bought a selection of high heels made for Narae that fit my older girl but don't fit the one in the above photo--or Sarah. Something to keep in mind if you are looking at Narae shoes for Raccoon girls. Also, the Dollmore high heels are too big and too high. The arch is wrong. Raccoon said he would check other companies and see if he could find shoes that fit.

As promised, here is Sarah standing next to an Iplehouse nYID girl (Olivia):

41. I have just received a Raccoon Lucy and will be doing a full photo review in the next few days. I will also try some of the fashion doll shoes I got for my Chicline. She has small feet for her height and I am hoping some of those will fit. I will feedback when I can.

As for other clothes *_*. Still researching. She is one size on the top half and another on the bottom half. Do she got a booty? She do.

42. @vermont chick : Thank you for the pics, she looks quite tall!
@
MadamMauMau : Yeah another Lucy! I'm looking forward to see your review as I'm waiting for a Lucy too. Do you get her with faceup and/or clothes?

43. No faceup, no clothes. I like a challenge.

44. Sarah looks amazing, love her sculpt.

Just visited their website and they have sold out, no sign of the male sculpts yet.

45. Congrats MadamMauMau! I can't wait to see the first Lucy.

You're brave (or else you have exceedingly fine eyesight, not to mention great hand-eye coordination) to tackle the face-up on such a small head. I no longer have my C-line for comparison, but Raccoon Doll heads are slightly larger (size 5-6 wig vs. 4-5 for C-line). The feet are also larger. My C-line was able to wear Ellowyne Wilde shoes but Sarah can't get into them. Do she got a booty? Yes, indeedy! And thunder thighs, too!

@Devineg - It's not that the dolls have sold out, but that the order period ended. I believe this is a one-person operation, and Raccoon stopped taking orders while he was making the dolls. I haven't heard when the next order period will be, but I suspect you will be able to order Sarah and Lucy then, along with the new sculpt he is working on. Raccoon estimated the first male doll would be available next year. Seeing as Sarah is taller than my mini-mature boys, I'm going to need a male, too.

46. Shame on the shoes. I suspect mine are Ellowyne-sized too.

And I have reading glasses, tiny brushes and determination. I have painted my two ChicLines and I am naively optimistic. I won't get a chance to test out my optimism for a few days as it is rain, rain, rain here, but I am looking forward to it. I am hoping I can make her face suitably realistic to stand alongside my aGatti Guarvo, who seems to have taken rather a shine to her. However, he is knobbly realistic and she is smooth stylised, so let's see.

47. @MadamMauMau - I just finished reading your impressive review of aGatti Guarvo. Very well done! I look forward to reading the same kind of thorough reporting on Raccoon Doll Lucy. You're not kidding Guarvo is knobbly realistic! It will be interesting to see photos of Lucy and Guarvo together. Will he still be taller when you put her in high heels?

48. He should still be marginally taller. They don't look half bad together.

Yes, I am doing a similarly in-depth look at the Lucy. I think I have most bases covered in that format, but if there are any other things people would like me to look at and comment on, do say within the next day or so, as I plan to get the camera out for the photos on Friday. The Guarvo review is here

49. Thanks for the comparison photos vermont chick, Sarah actually fits in pretty well with other MSDs. I was worried she'd look odd standing with them but she looks fine, so a Raccoon girl would go just great with my smaller doll plans. :) I'm a little disappointed I didn't get one now, but there's always another time hopefully. I can't wait for news on the other sculpt, I wonder what she'll be like.

MadamMauMau, I'm looking forward to reading your review on Lucy when you've finished it. I found your aGatti Guarvo review interesting and I really enjoyed reading it.

50. I'm not doing anything like an in-depth review, but I did try photographing Sarah in different poses. Maybe it's because they have more joints, but my Judith dolls have a better range of motion. Sarah can cross her legs and sit with both legs under her, but some of her other poses look stiff. I haven't uploaded my photos to Photobucket yet--I'll try to do that tomorrow.

51. OK. I have put the review up. I will add more pictures once I have painted her and that will depend on the bloody rain stopping. The review is here.

ETA: Aaah! Measurements are wrong (old template). I will correct that tomorrow. I knew I shouldn't be doing these things at midnight.

52. Great review, MadamMauMau! You obviously put Lucy through her paces, something I was afraid to do with Sarah. On the other hand, I usually don't ask too much of my dolls in the way of posing, so for the most part I'm content with what she can do. The small hands and feet are pretty much a vestige of the Iplehouse style. Iplehouse JID girls have notoriously small extremities, way out of proportion with their heavier body. I would hope that Mr. Choi would gradually expand the realism of his girls' hands and feet as he goes.

I'm curious: Did you correspond with Mr. Choi regarding his past experience? The reviews I've seen don't mention Iplehouse by name, although his heads (and even the body) are a dead giveaway. I saw hints of Bianca in Lucy, especially in profile, but I also see a resemblance to Stella and Bibiane. I'd love to know which other sculpts he was responsible for. And if, as you say, he sculpted Leonard (Yowza!) I'm ready to order his first male sculpt for Raccoon Doll sight unseen.

*****

Here's a photo of Sarah in a 6/7 wig that was too small for anyone else. She's wearing a Lolita kimono I sewed for an old Soulkid (long gone). Her pose isn't all that pretty, but few of my other dolls can sit this way.

53. Yes, I did, via SartoriaJ, with whom we are both doing collabs. No, it is no surprise that he was an Iplehouse sculptor. It is a distinctive style. I wonder whether that might change as he is able to go his own way. Perhaps he will settle into something new as he progresses.

Lovely photo. I am about to make a hard cap wig for mine as I am generally not a fan of sewn, wefted wigs for small heads. They tend to look too bulky, although yours looks fine. And dry weather is promised for tomorrow *Rubs hands in faceupping anticipation*

54. The tri-color wig does fit her head, but I hate how it looks in back. It's one of those wigs with huge heavy curls at the bottom. I've already cut a couple of inches off and may need to do another pass with the scissors before I'm through. It's a Chinese-made wig from Alice's Collections.

Today I tried several more wigs on her, mostly for color because they're all 6/7s, and was pleased to see how good she looks in Monique Gold wigs even when they're not her size. I've tried making wigs but find I just don't have the patience to wait for the glue to dry. Gimme something ready-made!

I'm looking forward to seeing Lucy's face-up when you're done.

55. I made a start on Turrell, my Lucy. Still needs line work and glossing, but we are getting there. I squeezed her into a Monique 4-5, which is WAY too small. I am in the process of making her a wig but, for some reason, all my short hard cap wigs look like bad taxidermy. I will finish it, though.

She is wearing the eyes that came with my aGatti Guarvo, which are 8/2mm. The right size for her narrow eyes but will probably be too gimlet-eyed for Sarah. Now to find someone to make me some like this so that they don't have to eye share.

And clothes. Aaarrggh!

56. I like where you're going with her face-up, MadamMauMau. Compared to the company face-ups she looks like a different doll. I also like the look of those eyes but think I would like a slightly larger iris for Sarah. I wish I knew someone who makes eyes that size. All I've found so far are cheap glass eyes that don't have the degree of realism yours do.

57. Great review MadamMauMau, and your Lucy is gorgeous, I see a hint of Ruby Rose in her!

58. Well spotted! She was my reference as that is who the face reminds me of. I am glad that came over. Then I got halfway through and she reckoned she wanted something a little more Mila Jovovich, so we ended up with something in between.

vermont chick, I have a few source for small eyes, but am struggling to find ones that will make small, light irises. Captured in Glass say they can do their basic eyes with small irises for $20. Shoepfer will do custom sized irises on their 8000 series eyes at $25.80 (and their level of realism is far greater then the basic Captured in Glass eyes, which makes them an appealing option). Dreaming Tree will do them dirt cheap, but they are printed irises so don't look so good at this scale.

She is going to be demanding, isn't she?

59. I see something of Mila Jovovich in your face-up, as well as Ruby Rose. I also see Hilary Swank. You can go with any of them.

Thanks for the eye information. I'm looking at the Schoepfer website and don't see anything about custom sizing. Their 8000 series has a price of $25.86 and starts at 8mm. How do you get custom sizes? Email them?

Raccoon's website says 6mm eyes but, when I measure Sarah's eyes from corner to corner the way Schoepfer recommends, I get 8mm. (I'm using a metal sewing/knitting gauge.) If 8mm fits, it looks like the 8000 series works without custom sizing.

60. I shoved an eye sizer in there and 8mm fits best. 6mm gives gaps.

You email them about custom sizes. I have now spoken to so many glass eye manufacturers that I can't remember whether they charge a premium for custom eye-sizing, but you can always ask.

And have a picture of her with her companion, an aGatti Guarvo. It shows up her stylisation and I am not sure how well they go together, but it is not terrible.
