I'm looking at doing some test casts with resin, and I'd really like to get a pressure pot & air compressor. The problem is that I would need a quiet air compressor since I live in an apartment. :dead Does anybody have any suggestions for, or know of any quiet air compressors sufficient for casting?
I do not know of other comparatively quiet compressors but for airbrushing. However, these are pretty small. So I do not know if suitable for this purpose...
I don't think an airbrush compressor would be powerful enough to fill a pressure pot in a reasonable amount of time. I have seen one used (in an attempt) to fill an airbed, and it was painfully slow. Your resin would start to set up before the chamber was pressurised. Air compressors are not very quiet things unfortunately. Is there a basement area or somewhere else you could set up to work where noise would be less of an issue?
Thanks for your responses, Modelhorse & Twigling. Unfortunately, we live in a 3-floor apartment building and we are on the 2nd floor. We are in an end-unit with an open stairwell on the other side of us, so the biggest concern is the noise for people above and below us. We do have a balcony, but we are not able to weather-control it. I figured an air compressor suitable for airbrushing would be too small, but I didn't know if there would be anything a bit quieter than the "standard" air compressor. It wouldn't have to be silent - we can talk in our apartment without being overheard or disturbing our neighbors. What I'm concerned about are the normal air compressors that are as loud as (or louder than) someone shouting.
I did a quick google search for 'quiet air compressor', you might want to do the same and maybe contact some retailers to find out more. Also, if you operate it at home during business hours and perhaps notify your immediate neighbours beforehand that there might be some noise it might not be as big a problem.
