Hey again everyone! I have a quick question about how stringing actually works.. I need to get some clarification on it before I start sculpting and such. So basically I know how the process works, get a plan, make a styrofoam model, and wrap some clay over it. This is where I feel like it's a little blurry. Once all the parts are done, how would the stringing be able to hold a pose? An arm lifted or a foot bent at an angle while the doll is sitting? Do the joints have to have some sort of mechanism or be a little tight to do that? I'm trying to get more info on this if it's something I should keep in mind while sculpting? I just can't grasp the idea of an empty doll doing that xD I know how dolls are strung and I know how to string them, I just find it different when its me trying to make the doll! Thanks!
Quick answer about joints and stringing: Get and read Zen & the Art of Articulating Dolls by Using Balljoints (2007) by twigling You can find the link in this post: http://www.bjd-artists.com/showthre...oll-Tutorial-Links-(updated-links-2013-10-11) Basically, a BJD can hold a pose due to friction and tensioning. Hopefully helpful? (^_^)
I was a might disappointed when I saw their website was down, but through the magic of Google I was able to find an alternate method of getting to their PDF download here: http://www.twigling.com/workshop-main/zen-the-art-of-articulating-dolls-using-balljoints/workshop-pdf/ There is also a version on scribd, but you need to sign up for that. http://www.scribd.com/doc/212730123/Zen-bjd
