Thanks for the tutorial! I will definitely try this in the near future. I've seen people do this for a human sized dress for as well, requires a lot more duct tape though XD
This is a great idea! I've made myself a corset with the duct tape wrapping method. After you finish the wrapping, mark where you want the lines of the corset to go, then cut it off. You can use it directly as a pattern by cutting the lines for the design and add seam allowances. I'm looking forward to making one of these. I think I'll use the paper tape method and cover it in T-shirt fabric.
This is a brilliant tutorial. I have always wanted to sew clothes for my girl. She has an odd shape that not many seem to sew for. I mean unless I want to pay 100 bucks for a dress which is not going to happen. lol. Anyways I'll be sure to try this out in the future thank you!
I bought a pin cushion that was almost the same size as my girl, but it's just so fussy to work with...I'll have to try this when I get home, Willow desperately needs clothes.
I tried this last night and it took awhile but.it worked! I stuffed it with plastic bags instead, though. I seem to have an infinite amount of them anyway.
I made one of these for my brand new doll today. Thank you so much for posting this and for all of the helpful tips. The tip about putting the lines on before you cut and putting Xs over the line to help you line it back up after cutting was awesome. And I found that a seam ripper with the plastic ball on the sharp point worked the best for cutting the tape without injuring the doll. It's super low profile and got in that tight space well. It gets gummy but cleans right up. I forgot to add that I tried both cotton balls and grocery bags as stuffing and that the grocery bags, cut into strips, seemed to distribute more easily. The cotton balls tended to bunch up and leave hollow spots and lumpy spots... I would have started with grocery bags if I had known that.
i made one for my boy so that i could make new clothing for him and i love it just be very careful i ended up giving him a booboo with the scissors i was using. live and learn i suppose
Love this mimi sized version! I'm a sewing fiend and love thing to fit perfectly to my dolls so this is perfect for me c: Suggestion for those who like more aesthetically pleasing items, get fun duck tape that come in multi color rather then a plain grey one!
I made a 1/4 scale dress form the same as the tutorial, but instead of stuffing it, I filled it with spray foam. I removed the form from the duct tape casing and sewed a cloth cover. It looks like a real dress form and I can pin things to it.
This is going to be really handy! I plan on giving it a shot sometime this week, really excited to get back into BJDs, its been way too long.
I used fabric tape for the ones I'm making. I like that the width is smaller and a little more flexible. I also like using the different patterns, I just think they look cool. I've been wanting to do this tutorial since I saw it years ago and finally am getting around to it!
I'm going to try this today!! (Edit/Update: It went fairly well, except even with the manicure scissors I made a very small nick in my doll's resin D8)
This was actually pretty therapeutic to make. I used masking tape and a two wood dowels taped into a t shape to hold it and two pieces of foam board (one with a hole for the dowel in the center) as a stand. I did not tape up the arm or neck hole and used an index card as a cover for the bottom. I didn't want to close anything up in case I discover that I need to add or remove filling. Great tutorial!!
omg thanks for this tutorial, I always wanted a form for my girl but it has been impossible to get one.
