I've never bought a styled wig before and I had some questions about them. How easy are they to take apart or unstyle? I know the point is usually that you want the wig in the particular style so you don't have to do the work. Here's why I'm wondering: the wig I was planning on buying (simple double braids) isn't available anymore. There's a somewhat similar wig that has double braids, but it's a little different. It's as though the hair was pulled into pigtails on the side of the head, and then braided. I can't see what the situation is where they're tied, because it's covered by ribbons in the pictures. Would it be reasonable to expect that I could undo the ties and then rebraid the hair in the style that I want, or are styled wigs usually fashioned more securely in some way? I don't have a ton of extra money to spare, so I don't want to find out I can't get the look I want with this wig.
Do you have any pictures of the two? Photos and maker links will really help us tell you what's workable. It depends on a few factors, from material and method of construction, to styling products/glues used, to weft direction or even potential "gaps" in the wefting. It's truly not possible to give you an answer from a written description.
It really does depend on the wig. Some wigs can be redone easily as you described, but some are cut or sewn to hold a certain shape. Often times, assuming you have a heat resistant wig that isn't special cut, you can bring some water to boil, and then and dip a brushed out wig in and out of the heated water quickly combing through it to straighten the wig and give you a fresh base to work with. Once you have the fresh base you can then style a wig how you want. Do you have any pictures of the wig that you want to restyle?
Thanks for the info -- I have pics here. This is the one I would buy: This is how I would want to style it:
Unless the braids are sewn on separately, I think it would be feasible to redo. But if you are re-braiding anyway, why not get a wig without styling to start with? It would be a lot easier and come with less possible surprises.
I Think this would be pretty easy to redo. I have a 1/8 doll with a similar wig and twin tails. I ended up pulling the higher twin tails down to lower ones like you are showing with the braid that you want to do. My dolls wig has a definitive sewn back part which makes it easy for twin tails and braids, but she would always have to wear a double braid or twin tails parted style because of how the wig is sewn in the back.
