Hey guys =) I've been working on this one for over a year at this point XD I kind of need a little kick in a butt to commit and finish her. Reason why it takes so long is pretty much me being not very decisive about certain shapes and parts of join mechanisms... but as my family says, i guess i just need to rip this band-aid off and just finish her and move on on new doll. Her head has been finished pretty much instantaneously, however few details kept changing as i work on body. I decided to go with a faceplate option because i still want to make few with facial expressions for her. The bottom disk on a neck joint initially was planned to reduce wear and tear for neck part, but looking at it now i feel like i'm overthinking it, so i may just go back to a standard socket with a hole. So far I settled on these faceplates: (at first she had pretty thick eyelids, but eventually it got sanded down to this) Body started with so many piece I can't even count hahaha (well, 5 actually) I wanted to see how much of the movement I can give her, but ended up putting a bunch of putty around joints in attempt to get the shape i want for the body and at the end decided to make a solid torso first, then cut it and figure out amount of joints later... Some sanding, then one of the first more simple cuts: Not quite where i wanted it to be. So i just proceeded with legs And i guess I've been slicing a dicing her body since hahaha ... I keep my original clay sculpt intact and keep making resin copies I can drill and cut in my attempt to find a perfect combination... I guess I'll start making it here now =)
Looks like a fun Project. There is something about the body that gives of an energetic vibe, like a person with a lot going on. She seems to have that spark in her eyes too. What material are you sculpting in?
Thanks =) Ti be honest its all due to spherical drill tips. Thankfully there's enough of them corresponding to sizes of the standard beads, so it makes fairly tight sockets for joints, eyes etc of the basic round/cylinder shape! Thank you I suppose i treat her more of a sculpture than just a doll. Plus, my main job is character related so i won't pretend that I haven't had practice haha ... I guess my main struggle with her is to preserve plasticity in a final configuration. I generally don't like most doll bodies sliced in two halves around rib cage. It's awesome for hiding seams under brassier, but in a same time depending on length of body back becomes either stiff or just awkward for posing ... So I definitely need more cuts in her, but can't quite get them in positions to my liking heh ... I use apoxie sculpt (two component putty) for originals and then make a silicone part for each piece and cast it in resin. I have to do resin bits because apoxie shell with styrofoam inside kept breaking in my hands ))) I suppose i put too much effort in sanding XD
she looks super cool so far, wow!! it's a really interesting idea to make her butt part of the joints! i don't think i've ever seen it before : )
my god I am in LOVE with her!!! Def following this project! Her face looks so interesting and I think she would work amazing in either tan or dark skin. I would 100% buy this, jsyk
