Aesthetics Puyoo Doll Ruru faceup

Oct 9, 2022

    1. I bought this doll secondhand, upon initial inquiry I thought she was a Puyoo Lala (which has a sculpted smile), but it ended up being a Ruru (which has a small round mouth). Not being one to pass up on the opportunity to take a Puyoo Doll home, I made the most of it (I just love smiley dolls :D)

      Like my Shoushou Niko "practice" faceup before, I used watercolor pencils, soft pastels, and Mr. Super Clear (of course);

      The initial sketch:

      I taught myself a little life hack; I don't know if this is usual, but I found if I wrap a piece of electrical tape around her head, it can help me line up her eyebrows and eyeliner...:lol:

      And our first test with eyes: I was just using brown to sketch, but this ended up WAY more orange than I initially imagined :sweat

      So of course, I just layered, MSC, pencil, MSC, (a fun break for :aheartbeablushing:aheartbea), pencil, MSC, and got her down to a more dark neutral brown, though the texture started to show very heavily. I'm using pencil just because I'm not very good at controlling a brush and paint, but I still didn't want it to look so grainy.

      Here is the odd thing - I picked up some Crayola colored pencils, advertising that you can just dip the pencil in water and draw directly with it (which you're not supposed to do with WC pencils, as far as I understand) - Crayola came in CLUTCH for the uppermost layer. Not only did I use it to add more darkness for the eyelashes, I was able to smooth out the mouth some more, as well. And here she is!

      I'm still deciding if I'd like to tackle putting some highlights on her cheeks/lashes, but for now I'd consider this a 2nd faceup well-done! I'm really pleased with being able to take her sculpt and give her a lil smile after all :cheer:aheartbea

    2. She’s a cutie great job on the faceup

    3. Oh, she's adorable! I love the way you've stylized her lashes.

    4. Thank you!! I'm still so green with faceups but I feel like she came out cute~
      Thanks!! I love the rounded eyelashes and have been wanting to try them out for a while. I thought they were a bit too much at first, but the ended up complimenting the roundness of her head well (I think!) :lol:

    5. I love the round eyelashes ! So cute and bubbly :XD:
      I'll have to try and pick up a set of crayola watercolors because from your pic it looks like it lays down smooth

    6. Thank you!! I was so pleasantly surprised that the Crayola ones worked SO well...sometimes the simple stuff is what works :celebrate

    8. Yeah, I'd say they're definitely a really solid option! I'm thankful too since they have a good chunk of neutral colors as well.

      Saying they remind you of Pretty Cure is a high honor - actually the protagonist of Hugtto Precure has lashes like this and was partially the inspiration for it :aheartbea Thank you so much!
