PUPAPA "Quino" 25.5cm discussion Part 1

Mar 30, 2010

    1. They were on dollism,
i spotted them on a big number of flickr dollism pictures and knew that they must have been pupa's.
But i had never expected them to be sold on the website ever [sort of..dollism limited event doll]

Because there are not that many good pictures on their website,
      here the flickr pictures:

Must say i do agree that that leg system looks a bit strange But you can simply not use it.
And the torso joint does bother me a bit because it doesn't fit together as well as i would like to see...
but it's not as if i will photograph her naked if i get her x'D [and if so...i will just photoshop the joint out] =3=

    2. :DHere are Viccia's preliminary pix, I know that I said that I was going to wait, but...this is Viccia with her default wig, I only got her normal face plate and opted out of the sanding, BTW:

Here she is with all of her free goodies, forgot to mention the face protector and silicone cap that also came with her!:

AND...here she is wearing my Dia's wig (on my Plantet Doll Mini Riz, in my avatar here), it is a Bisou Ai size 4.5, fits perfectly!!!

:aheartbeaI REALLY LOVE HER!!! And, when her other clothes/wig comes, there will be more spammage!!!

      Take care,

      EJ

    3. Can someone show us the naked assemblied body ?
I searched for it, but...... U_U

    4. For a Yo size doll the basic girls are pretty normal in price. And the fullsets come with 3 face-plates and extra hands so I don't think they are over priced. But the sale is sure awesome!

I pm'ed Shuen to find out what size clothes they wear and good news 1/6 size will work! So Blythe/Pullip/Azone and Barbie should work!

    5. My Quino's here! A few initial impressions:

      • Her packaging is probably the nicest of any doll I have, similar to Fairyland packaging. The two extra faceplates each came with acrylic eyes and a protector. It's a bit like opening a treasure chest.

      • She can wear a lot of 1/6 clothes, though her hands won't always fit through the armholes. I mainly have skirts and dresses, trousers might be a challenge.

      • Her feet are huge! Which is adorable, she has cutely separated toes. But I had thought she'd easily share shoes with Hujoo, and most are too small for her. The high-heeled feet fit better than the flat feet, I did manage to squeeze them into a couple of things.

      • I replaced her feet easily, but her arm stringing is very tight. I'd have to unstring the arms to change hands, at least the first time. The faceplate magnets are well-placed and work better than other faceplate dolls I have in that size.

      • She has a kind of fluid, slouchy body language that I wasn't expecting, and she's very pigeon-toed. It's cute though, she's very graceful.

I will try to post photos tomorrow or over the weekend. Has anyone else's arrived yet?

    6. My Orchis

      [IMG][IMG]

    7. CUTE!!!! What's she wearing? She looks so cool!

    8. I am intrigued by these cuties - does anyone have any comparison shots to share with them standing next to/interacting with other tiny bjds? I am trying to wrap my head around the size and am failing miserably...

    9. So cute!!! I've got the money for one but I want to wait and see if I can get both!

Also-I asked Pupapa and the Quino girls can wear Blythe clothes!! I found a great site for clothes http://www.thisisblythe.com/shop/cart.php?target=category&category_id=115

I'm looking forward to having dolls I can dress for a reasonable amount of money :)

      *squee! I just ordered clothes!

    10. Blythe Mango, Quino Orchis, Planetdoll Mini Roseanne:

Orchis has the high-heeled feet, so she is a little taller than she would be otherwise. She can wear some Blythe things, but she has longer arms and bigger hands, so be careful about sleeves. Trousers, socks and shoes for Blythe probably won't fit.

    11. Here she is wearing Blythe Very Vicky's default skirt and blouse:

(And hat too, but on Blythe it's a tiny hat.)

Every Blythe skirt I've tried on her fits perfectly, they may well have the exact same waist measurement. Even the slender skirts I've tried have fit. Shirts are hit or miss; knit shirts are usually fine, but with blouses it depends on the armholes and sleeves. Most of them are ok though and fit perfectly in the torso.

Regular Blythe/Barbie/Momoko shoes do not even come close to fitting. Hujoo shoes sometimes fit. I've had better luck getting the high-heeled feet into shoes than the flat feet.

      These fit perfectly:
      http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hujoo-Wings-Neo-Go-Obitsu-Male-1-6-Shoes-Lace-Boots-Red-/300588241560

She can get her high-heeled feet into these, though the toes poke up a bit:
      http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hujoo-Berry-Wings-1-6-Dollfie-Pink-Ribbon-Gold-Shoes-/120584505947

      These do not fit:

    12. The resin is a little bit plasticky, but still pretty nice. I ordered mine with sanded seams and they did a good job, she's completely smooth and finished nicely. All her parts fit together perfectly. Her skintone is very pale with a hint of cream.

    13. Looks like the best option is buy a couple pairs of shoes for her from Pupapa when ordering the doll.

Also- I noticed Dollmore's 16" fashion doll shoes might fit- their foot size is 4cm which is only a little larger than Quinos.

    14. My comparison pictures wishlist, if anyone can help:

Quino with a YoSD, Pullip, and MSD

    15. YoSD size is fine! I'm just trying to get a handle on their size still!

    16. Sorry to double post like this, but my Orchis is in my hands now! She's named Usva and I'll be doing her faceup later today if I have the time. :3 Oooh! She's a bit wonky from the legs, but alltogether she's very unique and beautiful doll. I totally love the sleepy faceplate! Now just waiting until I get eyes for her and Uninu makes her wig. :3

    17. congrats Giggy. she sure is cute.

    18. OMG! So cute!!

Are the leg joints wonky or do the legs just stand funny?

    19. It's more that the legs stand funny, they're an oddly curvy shape and she's pigeon-toed. (It's cute though!) The knee joints work well.

Giggy, the sleepy faceplate is my favourite. I wasn't expecting to like it so much, but there's something very sweet and ethereal about it.

Here she is standing next to a Bambicrony Isabelle, which is MSD-sized.

    20. I got my Orchis, too, without customs fees *party* Here's her temporary look. She'll have Giggy's faceup and tibetan lambskin wig and very pale blue eyes in the future.

    21. Our girls are ready (at least almost :D)

They have faceups only on one faceplate both. The one on the left is Uninu's Sade and the girl on the right is mine called Usva. :) I still have to paint lots of their faces... (4...) D:

    22. iggy, Uninu, very cute! Congratulations on their arrival.

      My Muse

    23. I got them!! They are so amazingly cute! I can't wait to paint her!

    24. Hey guys~

I unexpectedly bought a blank Viccia last night when I realized her $130 price was only temporary lmao

I can't wait to get her and paint her up~

For those who opted out on the seam-sanding, how bad are the seams?

    25. Eevee- The seams are rather bad unfortunately. But they aren't anything I feel compelled to do anything about immediately. The thing is she's so small the seams are more apparent than on a larger doll.

But congratulations! Bad seams and all I just lover my Viccia! She's a fun little doll! You can see some pics of my girl here http://www.denofangels.com/forums/s...ew-face-)-Pupapa-Quino-Viccia&highlight=quino

babytarragon- You should succumb! I have to say I think I would be a little annoyed if I'd paid the full price for her. She is very much an artist doll and is a bit rougher around the edges than the average doll. But for $130 she is an absolute steal and tons of fun!

And for the curious the Dollmore fashion doll high heel shoes sort of worked out! Just not the open toes. Her highheel feet aren't curved enough. But she can cram her feet into the closed shoes.

    26. The resin isn't as shiny as I thought it would be but a full sanding sounds like a good idea.

    27. Pupa Paradise sells shoes specficially for Quiino, but they're all sneakers or boots.
Mine's wearing regular Yo-SD shoes with the toes stuffed since her feet are quite smaller.

Also is anyone having problems with their's standing or sitting normally?
I know they're bow-legged but my girl's legs just want to twist backwards.

I think I may need to suede and wire, and possibly change the elastic.

    28. Yeah, they are terrible with the crazy legs! I would definitely wire them! I'm too chicken to do it myself LOL! But I may see if I have some moelskin around- I'm almost out.

The Dollmore 17 fashion doll high heel shoes sort of almost fit... but I haven't tried the others, the ones they have on their Lukias. I bought shoes from Pupapa for them, bet yeah, its all converse looking tennies.

And OMG! I still need to paint my Orchis!! Maybe I can to a quickie face-up on her tomorrow! I have like two other half finished dolls already though...

    29. Thanks for the reply on the shoes! I've actually been using Yo-sized shoes too, but had hoped I could get some heels somewhere~ She's the only doll I own with high heel feet, I want some shoes! :laughs: The slightly over-sized look of the Yo shoes is pretty cute though. I actually hadn't thought to stuff the toes with tissue, so I may be stealing that idea ^_~

I haven't had too much trouble with my little one sitting or standing (yet), but I had planned to recruit a friend to help me wire her anyway.

    30. My Quino.

      :)

    31. Here is my Viccia Liliy :)

    32. [IMG]

Her wig is too big here T__T I'm awesome and bought the wrong one, hahaha.

Where is everyone getting wigs? Been thinking of trying to snag a mohair one off of etsy, due to lack of being able to find options.

    33. In new wig.

... and with new "pet" :)

    34. Does anyone know of any slim-body resin matches for these cuties?

I sold my Viccia some time ago but I still love her face, but her body was the reason I ended up selling her.

    35. I'm saddened by the lack of activity in this thread! Does anyone have any insight into why these little dolls were never very popular? They've tempted me since their release, and I was finally able to suck it up and take a chance. I purchased a fullset Orchis, and I'm very excited about painting all her little faces!

    36. None of the 1/6 BJDs seem wildly popular, so I think it's mainly just the scale. She's a quirky little doll, but very charming!

    37. That makes sense to me, there doesn't really seem to be a big market for these little ones. Well, I hope more people will give these little ones a chance, they really don't need very much work to be perfect! I've posted a joint modification tutorial and a photoshoot of my new little one painted and posing. :) I'm totally enchanted by this sweet little doll!

    38. I've loved these dolls since they came out, but I'll admit that it's the size that has deterred me from buying one. They have pretty heads for other sizes too, but I just find the 1/6 girls so charming! I love Viccia's normal eyed face. *_* I really hope to see more of these girls....

    39. Rykaan, your Orchis is stunning~ I've been trying so hard not to want to buy both of these girls and you are not helping T___T She's so darn cute~

And thank you for that tutorial! I have a feeling I'm going to borrow my friend's dremel and give it a try <3

    40. I can join this thread now! :D I have a Viccia fullset on order (I opted for a faceup on the normal faceplate). I'm a tad bit concerned about her having a hard time standing, but my dolls are usually in a seated position most of the time. Would sueding help much?

    41. Personally, I think sueding would impede posing more than it would help. Maybe, MAYBE, some hot glue in the ankles would help, because their poor engineering is what makes standing untrustworthy. Their general weight distribution and engineering is what makes standing difficult. Although, all these issues mean that when they DO stand, it's a silly little pose just bursting with character. :)

    42. Lol thanks! :D I did see pictures of them standing and I thought it was adorable! I'll be super careful with her until I get used to her.

    43. Rykaan, did you order your girl in early April of this year? I'm asking because I only got an automated response confirming my order. I've never ordered from them before so I was a little nervous about what the actual ordering process and wait time with this company is like (I'm assuming it might be fairly quick since these dolls are a bit uncommon so they may not be swamped with orders). :)

    44. guls207, all of the Dreamscreator Quino dolls are already manufactured and just waiting in the shop to be purchased. My sweet little Modi was shipped about two weeks after I paid, and she arrived about a week after that! It was very, very fast. :)

I finally painted Modi's open-eyed face, and her new horns arrived today! Since Oka stole the antennae she was originally going to have, I had to order her a new pair. Modi's sweet little antlers are just too PREEEECIOUS!

    45. *squeeeee* OMG I love how the new antlers look on Modi! :D The old antennae were cute too but I really love how she looks with these! Her faceup and eyes are absolutely darling! :D

I ordered my girl with a faceup so I think she might take a bit longer than 2 weeks but it's really cool that the dolls are in stock! 0_0 I already have eyes and a wig ready along with some clothes to try out, but knowing my luck, she'll get home and change everything anyway!

    46. Wow I guess my prediction for 2+ weeks was off...I just got my shipping notice! :D 5 calendar days with a faceup! I guess that 5 day "wait" was just for painting and packing! :D My tracking number is also working on the USPS website so I'm guessing 5-7 days for delivery (the package has already left Hong Kong so it can't be too long now).

    47. Aaah, wonderful!! :) That's so exciting. I know my girl took a while to leave China, so it might be a few days longer than usual EMS shipping. Still super fast in the realm of dolly wait times!

    48. Greetings!
I finally finished make-up for Ritha's open-eyed face, and want to show her

She's very cute and naughty girl :D

    49. Awwww, Likanta!! Your Ritha is so adorable. She's precious, but she's certainly not lacking in sass either! What a dear. <3

    50. rykaan, thanks ^_^
      I'm glad you liked her.

    51. OMG! What cute clothes!!!

    52. Hey guys! So I've had my Viccia for 2 weeks now (and I love her). I was wondering, does anyone else's girl feel...plasticy? Her head definitely feels like resin, but the body is very light (which is expected for a doll this small), but it has a slippery yet toothy feel to it...a lot like a toothy ABS plastic doll (like Pullip/Dal). Does anyone else's doll feel like this? 0_0

    53. I ordered an Orchis fullset this weekend! Being spoiled by Minifees, I'm a teensy bit apprehensive about the posing, but I think her adorable-ness will make up for it. Still, I feel as excited for her as I did with my first doll!

    54. Chehime, thanks :) That's Kurhn's clothes.

I don't tnink that Quino made from the same plastic as Pullip - it seems to me that Quino's material is more rough and more dense. Maybe, that's not regular resin, yes, but it doesn't look like plastic for me.

AnimePudding, oh, nice! :) I hope your Orchis will arrive fast ^_^

    55. Mine feel like resin, the same resin for the head and the body. But maybe you got a shinier resin that set a little differently than the others. I'm not sure...
