3 months ago I had the idea to create my own BJD head, because I wanted something new...something special! The only problem was: I can`t sculpt. But I had enough time and a strong will to try it. So I decided to try it in a 3D software. Sculptris was my first choice and I had fun creating funny faces and stuff, but I realized pretty soon that my knowledge is not enough to create my special head. This was really a sad moment for me. My sister told me to talk to a 3D designer, because this is their job to create faces or full bodies in 3D. After talking to many artists I found someone who was willing to work with me! We talked many hours about the style of the head and he told me that he will start to work on the head and I give him feedback. After 2 days I got the first results of his work: View attachment 477 View attachment 478 This was pretty awesome work, but it was way too realistic for me. Photoshop helped me a lot to make clear what I wanted and I`ve sent him many pictures and PDFs with new instructions. This came back the next day: View attachment 479
This was about 95% of what I wanted! I made some last enhancements in Photoshop and this came out: View attachment 480 I was also playing with Photoshop and gave him some sexy eyes Later this day he also sent me the 3D files. So I could see the whole head from all sides:
The test print was ordered on shapeways and I wasn`t really satisfied with the material. I ordered it in "White strong & flexible plastic". The head was really rough and you could see any dirt on it. The head was also way too big. Here is a comparison photo next to my Switch Soseo: After a few days I contacted my 3D designer and he worked again on the head. The second test print was ordered and I was really nervous if he would have the right size. I paid about 150 Euro for the first print and again 145 Euro for the second print. This is a lot money, but after this much work I would pay even more. Because I want him to become real This time I used a new material on Shapeways. Its called "White strong & flexible polished". This was the best choice I could make! The surface was much more smooth and felt great! The head looked great as well! Makoto`s head is on a new April Story body I bought for him when they had their event. Right now Makoto is getting casted in a factory and I`ve sent them some resin samples together with the prototype head to match the April Story body and my Mocha Skin Humming Dolly body :-)
