    2. WOOT! He's up and standing! :D gj, Aminoff

    3. Hehe, thanks Jphobia! :D

    4. *does a little cheer dance* Go you. He's getting better by the day.

    5. Haha, thanks! :D

    6. Back from vacation!

      Hiya guys! :D

I'm back on track after a couple of weeks of relaxing and calming down a little! Just had a great weekend together with a newfound BJD collecting and sculpting friend and here are some photos of the result. I worked on him for hours, but since I'm in the stage where everything is all about the darn joints, you can't really tell much of a difference, haha.

      All of the parts. :)

Started putting in tiny little details on the torso. Still rather rough, but I think it'll look good in the end. :)

The legs got a little work done on them as well, they're longer and fit the joints a little better.

That's it for today, cheers people! ^^ :blush

    7. Just for fun!

"Draw me like your french girls....."

      Sorry, I had to! XD

    8. Somebody's belly has been painted with gesso for the first time (and sanded some more)! :)

      View attachment 216

His torso needs a bit more work in the shoulders, neck and back, but is soon ready for gesso painting, too. Yay! Things are going well. :)

He had two little accidents, as one of the photos above shows, but they were quite easily fixed, so I'm not too worried. :)
Happy to see more parts of him in gesso!

    10. Gesso, gesso, gesso!

      Time for another update! :)

I’ve started painting more of Ask’s parts in gesso, which is fun. It’s a relief to do something other than working with the joints for once, so I’ve been enjoying myself, haha.

Yesterday, I picked up Ask’s head… and did some changes. His face has been bothering me for a while now, especially his lips, so I did some minor, but well-needed, changes and I think I’m a bit happier with him now. But let me tell you this; I was SO darn nervous while working on him!!

Anyways, here, have some new photos of him! :)

    11. Wow, it's real quiet over here.

A little photo update. :) Or, rather, a very quick one, since I have a lot to do today.

There are new photos and new info on what's been going on with Ask lately up on my blog, so please check it out if you've got the time! :)

    12. Update on Ask, again. :)

I decided I acsolutely HATED his legs, so I paid them the most attention today. As you can see, they're hideous, ahaha. But after I got some really good advice on how to change them, I think they'll look allright soon.

Funny how you keep finding more and more issues you have to deal with before a doll can be finished. It can quite honestly be really frustrating sometimes. Not that I'll be giving up anytime soon! :)

    13. Another month has almost gone by, and now it's time for another update. ^_^

His legs are looking much better, and the joints are getting better and better, too. :) Although, the angle in these photos make them look kinda short, they're not, they're allright. But they're not super long like most dolls' legs.

    14. Possibly the only reason the legs look short is because of the size of his head. On a human figure, a male is about 7 and a half heads tall. I wouldn't worry about it.

    15. Yeah, I realized that too. I think I'm going to "shrink" his head during the casting later - cast a cast of his head and so on, just to get it smaller. >_<

    16. Wouldn't you lose a lot of detail if you did that? Polyurethane resin doesn't shrink much, so you'd have to do it many times for a noticeable difference in size.

    17. grimalkin: Not sure, I haven't ventured very far into resin casting yet. I don't know, I might just remake the hands and save these for a bigger doll or something. ^^

Dirili: Oh, thanks a lot for the information! :D I appreciate it!

    18. Posing!

After having been away on two trips around Sweden and spending one week sick in bed, I worked a tiny, tiny bit on Ask last night. I was too tired to get serious about it though, but I fiddled with his shoulder joints (I have now decided that they're the best I can do at the moment, so they're gonna get gesso'd real soon) and his hands, though I didn't take any photos of his hands - totally forgot!
I decided to get him strung together because I wanted to see what his recently modded legs looked like together with one arm, so.. here we go, have some photos!

Sucks about being sick :( that's quite a while too!
The pics look like things are coming along well. It's so cool to see a project progress like this, getting refined and all.

    20. :)
Yes, I haven't been this ill for YEARS, so it sucked big time. But oh well, I'm fine now, so whatever! :D
      Yeah, he's coming along rather nicely, but I'm such a slowpoke, seriously. I always find some tiny little stupid thing I "need to take care of" and before I know it, I've spent an hour just trying to fix this single little thing. >_>;

    21. Hello,
it's actually my first time posting something here -I'm a bit shy- :sweat
I've just read the entire thread and I must say I'm amazed at the progress you've made with your project.
You did a great job so far, really. :uhhuh

    22. Hi ShuAki!

Aww, don't be shy, we're all friendly on here! :D
Thank you very much for your kind words, I appreciate them! ^___^

    23. News on Ask - oh yeah!
Sorry about the big pictures btw, I don't have the time to fix them today - but if anybody's bothered by them, I can fix them tomorrow or something, just let me know in a PM!

      Anyways. Ask.
One of his elbows broke, as seen in one of the pics above, so I decided to try a different kind of elbow design, we'll see how it goes. ^^ Also decided to mess around more with the hip sockets, since they never worked 100% like I wanted them too. I think the change will be really good for the poseability (how do you spell that??).

      Hi guys!

I've been absent for almost one year now, sorry about that. Buuuut, now I've decided to come back, and start working on Ask again!

Life's been hectic this past year - I got two different jobs, I moved in with my boyfriend (and hence lost my sculpting room), I was very, very sick this summer etc. But, now I'm back! :)

I only got back to business yesterday evening, so I haven't done much more than put Ask together to see what he looks like, and to evaluate what kind of work I should start with. I do have some photos of him with his slightly older, casted and painted resin face though!

View attachment 389 View attachment 390 View attachment 391

Now that I see him like this, I suddenly wish I hadn't changed his original sculpted face.... Oh well!

I'll see you guys around! :)

    25. Good to see you took up sculpting again! This boy needs a finished body ;).

    26. I am really pleased that this guy is still trucking along! Was wondering where you'd got to-- especially glad that you're not sick any more.

    27. silk: Hehe yeah, my creativeness finally woke up again! And yuppers, he most certainly deserves that. X)

sailor: Yes, he's still going strong, haha! Just me being too busy and stuffs. :)

    28. Good morning everyone! :)

Yesterday, I sat down and sculpted some more; I mainly focused on the joints, and I am VERY pleased with most of them now! I have one elbow joint left to fix, as well as the hig joints. Ah, I haven't even started on the hand joints now that I think of it, but whatever, they're not as complicated as the other ones.

View attachment 395 View attachment 396 View attachment 397

I have a question though; I have decided to use Ask's older head, the one in the previous pictures, casted in resin and already painted, as his master head sculpt. Once the body is ready, I'm going to have to make some adjustments to the head's neck hole - how is this done in the best way, which clay should I use? Apoxie/epoxy? Thank you in advance! :)

    29. It's great to see him again - he looks better and better each time! Cheering you on!! :))

    30. Thank you, aneemal! ^__^ I could use some cheering, haha.

    31. Hi guys! Last weekend I went down to Gothenburg and spent a couple of days at Skogstoka's place. We've got plans on making some sort of collarboration in the future, and since we both need to finish our first dolls (Skogstoka's troll doll can be found here!), we decided to meet up and work together! We both got a lot of stuff done, but I'm afraid I was too into my work that taking photos wasn't a priority haha. I only took two pics, and here they are!

    32. Hi again! :)

A little photo spam of Ask. I carved and sanded down his neck, as it was way too long before, so now he's looking better, althought I'm probably going to shorten the neck a bit more. I'm also pretty proud that he's looking more and more like a finished doll and actually poses like one. :D

His knees have been fiddled with, again, as one of them doesn't lock properly when standing up, and the other thigh has been cut off and the knee socket replaced (aka twisted) into a better position.

The arms are looking a little weird in this angle, but they'll be fixed today, I'm hoping. :)

And here he's showing off he's shorter neck and being a little cute...

      Well, uh, that's a lot of photos. Sorry? ^^;

      Cheers people!

    33. Wow you have come a long way! i mean he practically looks finished, a bit a sanding here and there but still you can hold him in your hands!
Its definitely been a while sense I've been on here. Lots of improvements and catching up to do on what I've been missing ^^
I'm so glad you're still on top of this project, it makes me feel like there's still hope when you feel like a failure(me).

    34. Thank you! yes, it feels great to see him like this. :)
Haha, I know the feeling... I haven't been very active here at all, it's only recently that I got back to sculpting and visiting this forum.
Aww, don't say that! D: I used to say that about myself, but look, here I am! :D

    35. In the photos his long neck looks great with his head! i love his proportions.

    36. Oh thank you very much! I personally dislike how big his head is though, haha. We'll see if or what I can do about that. :)

    37. I know how different it can look in person... but in pictures his head looks very nicely in proportion to me, a little more than a third of the width of his shoulders. Any smaller and I think he'd look a bit pin-headed. He's coming along beautifully. :)

What are those coloured clips you use for holding the elastic? Those look really useful!

    38. Ah thank you, that's good to hear. One of the things I've always disliked about Ask is his big head... It made me me feel like throwing him away at one point, I was so frustrated with him, haha.

I got them from IKEA, hehe. *swedish desu* They're clips used to hold bags together, to keep the food/whatever in the bag from getting out. They're really handy! :)

    41. Exciting indeed - at least for me! :D He's starting to look like a real doll!

    42. Update!

Hi guys! Thought I'd drop by and post a picture of the boy. :) Today, I finally finished his knee joints! They've been completely redesigned since the last update and I've had another break from sculpting, unfortunately....

      Anyways, picture time! :)

      View attachment 469

I am currently redesigning his elbow joints, but I have mostly figured them out, so now I just have to make them fit eachother as good as possible.

I have to say that working on the joints has been... terribly agonizing, haha. Lots of tiny little changes to the naked eye, but they all have had major influences on the overall balance of the doll's body and poseability. Niiightmaaaare... Yet rewarding, lol. How is that even possible?

      Anyways, see ya around! :)

    43. Hi everyone! :)

Just finished unpacking this boy again, after the move from one apartment to another. Now he lives in his very own atelier! or, well, he gets to share it with my other projects, but you get the drift, right? ;)

No point in saying "I'll see you guys around!" or "I'm finally back on track!" because, you know, nah. I really want to, though.

    44. Hey guys!

I've been away for quite some time, huh.... But I finally finished Ask this Thursday AND sent him off to a casting company this morning!

I'm going to be a total neurotic until I know for sure that he's arrived, safe and sound.....

Seriously though, I don't think I've EVER used this much bubblewrap on one doll before.... Haha.

Here's a photo of what he looked like just before I wrapped him up:

I'm hoping he'll arrive ASAP - and whole.... But we'll see what happens.

    45. Congratulations! I would love some of that follow-through to rub off on me.

    46. Thank you!

Haha, aww! You can do it....! XD

      Hi again!

    51. Finally, the End has Come....

Thanks a lot, guys! And sorry I never replied to you until today, I got really busy with work all of a sudden.

Anyways - he's cast and he's been painted, photographed and uploaded to my website! I will post his official photoshoot in the Finished Dolls Gallery in a couple of minutes. :)

Took me a while, but I got here - to the end of my own sculpting thread. Really, really cool.

So, there he is. Viking style! Now, go check him out in the Finished Dolls Gallery! :D
