Got my dream head recently, been longing for her since started getting into bjd, so I'm in this zone of too nervous to touch, and reckless enough to make her the first doll I boil. Found a body for her right away, but the color match is very off. body is pink and head is yellow. First thought was to color match using paint on the head cause joints would mess up paint pretty quick, buuuut then I saw someone dye their doll on youtube and now I got it stuck on my brain. Really would rather her not pink in the end, but not sure how trying to make the body yellow would go. So probably going to be messing with full body dyeing. mostly torn on what color to make her if I do, sort of leaning towards a woodish/warm green? These are the two colors I'm kinda aiming towards, but might lower the brown in it? Not sure how it would turn out with the pink or if I should do a de-zombie dye bath on the head before going in with the greens? Thinking the only advantage to the sand trap over hidden moth would be could make a batch without the yellow in hopes that the head would take care of that? [objective list] 1. Figure out skintone/dyeing 2. Wings 3. Make eyes/figure out eye situation, possibly mod some extra eyes on her body to match ones on head 4. Face up 5. Wig 6. Outfit
Hello! Your Journal looks very interesting and you made yourself so many thoughts beforehand. But for me, it sounds like this head is kinda your grail. You are nervous to mess it up, right? I would be nervous too, because cleaning this head again, if something is going wrong, will be very very hard, due to all those details. The head looks like typical DZ normal yellow. A lot of companies are selling this skin tone. Are you very much in love with the body you bought fo her? I personally would consider to buy her a matching body instead of potentially damaging her. Or give her to someone who is used to color match dolls with dye. About the dezombification bath. I don't think the yellowness of this head might improve so much. It is the color of the head. Adding pinks might just give her head an apricot color. If you dye everything with the same dye, there might still be a color difference between head and body. Just for consideration... if you are 100% on fire! Go for it!
Yeah, she is very much my grail xD I couldn't remember the word for it when was writing this up. I'm nervous about it, but after a lot of thoughts (I've had her hanging out on my desk for about 2 weeks now) I think I would regret it more by playing it safe, rather than just going all out and making mistakes along the way. With the body, I am pretty set on just using this one cause I got it second-hand for a good price and I plan on modding the back for the wings. I want to be able to have the wings strung in for better movement rather than magnetic cause they will probably be on the heavier side? So figure if I really botch that, it wouldn't be as much of a hit if I were to order one in the right skin tone and wait the 3-4 months. Though now that you mention the body difference affecting the results from the dyeing, I might change some of my plans and only dye the body, then use some paint to color match the head color on the neck in a gradient up. Since she will be a fantasy doll, I could have some fun with patterns and stuff. Gunna have to think on that more now. Thank you!
I absolutely love her head! Congrats on getting your grail, and best of luck on getting the colour matching!
I have dyed quite a few dolls and I will just add in here that dyeing dolls that are not a white resin can be difficult to predict the color it will end up. I recommend, if you are planning on only dying the body, to test your dye bath on the foot or another piece you know will be hidden by clothing in case your initial batch needs tweaking. Good luck on your project
