      PROJECT RUNWAY GAME 29
      UNDER A FAIRY MOON CHALLENGE

      CHALLENGE:
You must create an original design depicting a fairy. You can use the link below to review types of fairies or, if your favorite is not on the list, you may choose your own. Fairies can be good or evil, be winged or wingless and can be humanlike or animal like, so use your imagination and have fun!

      http://www.realfairies.net/common-types-of-fairies.html

You must include at least two handmade accessories.

      RULES:
The spending limit for the game is $25.00. This includes fabric and all supplies, except thread. For countries other than the US, spend the equivalent currency.
The use of commercial patterns is prohibited. All costumes must be designed by you.
Shoes, socks, stockings and tights are not considered accessories and may be purchased.
You may purchase supplies and design your costume before the challenge begins, but you MAY NOT begin sewing until the game starts.

      JUDGING:
Entries will be judged on the following:
      ---Interpretation of the challenge theme
      ---Design Concept
      ---Accessories
      ---Aesthetics

      TIMELINE:
Entries can be posted anytime between now and May 1st.
The deadline for posting entries is May 1st at 11:59 PM, PST.
The game will begin on May 1st at 12:01 AM, PST.
The game will end on May 31st at 11:59 PM, PST.
Upon request, a 48-hour extension can be granted from May 31st at 11:59 PM, PST through June 2nd at 11:59 PM, PST.
Winners will be posted on or about June 14th.

      PHOTOS:
Your entry must contain 5 photos: a full-length photo of the front, a full-length photo of the back, 2 detail photos (may be collages) and a glamour photo that may include props. We would prefer that the glamour photo show a full-length view of your costume with your doll standing up. The photo should showcase your costume to its best advantage. These photos must be included in your entry. They must be 480 x 640.

OK, here's my little Dragonfly fairy. Front, including tail piece. When she's in hunting mode her extra legs are disguised as the bows on the front.

      Back:

Here are the costume pieces and the accessories; the flower purse and the flower light.
The purse was made with petals at the top and stamen to the bottom to complete the flower look.
The flower light was a flower base with a balloon light nestled in the middle. I used a rubber band to hold it in place and on her wrist.
The wings were made from the fabric marked '3'. I glued it to a piece of thin stencil maker but a single layer was too droopy so I glued two pieces together to make the final wing. It's not as transparent as I wanted but at least they stood out on their own. I put two hooks on the back to hook over the top band of the dress. I didn't think a snap would
      hold them close enough.

I had to alter my doll a bit to make her into the little Dragonfly fairy, but nothing permanent. First the feet had to go - there was no smooth line without them being removed. Second, I used fake gemstones [lower left] for her eyes to give a more insect look. I guess that would come under accessories.

Dragonflies are carnivores; they eat insects of all types. Here she is out looking for her favorite insect treats that only come out at dusk. Her basket is about full so soon she'll be off to enjoy her dinner.

The Adhene (also known as the Cloan ny moyan) are a type of Manx faery that were once angels that fell to earth. At the size of a small child they are among the largest of the faery kind. They are also wingless beings as they were stripped of them when they were cast from heaven. Since they were too good for the Underworld they now make their homes along the coasts and in the hills of the Isle of Man.

At once I apologize for my English, because I speak (and write) it very bad. I really hope that despite my awful explanation all be able to understand me.

Finally ready to suit the winter elf. Due to the fact that I am writing degree work, it was limited in time even more than it should be. However, I have finished outfit on time and photographed =)

      The costume consists of:
      1) Jacket with 5 tails have 3 layers: the top layer - blue chiffon, 2 layer- white gabardine, 3 layer - blue back cloth. The transparent glass beads was sewn on the collar. I have also added to the jacket aiguillette of chains and transparent and blue glass beads.
      2) White shirt. Front I cross stitching snowflake. At the collar and bottom of the sleeves, I embroidered with beads of the same snowflakes.
      3) White trousers with pockets (you can put anything, if there is a will =)) and a blue belt.
      4) boots I bought, but I decorated it with chains and a chain of beads of the same color as in aiguillette.
      5) White cloak with a biggin.

Photo: winter elf in a summer forest

A little about the photoshoot. It so happened that I went to take pictures of the birthday of my city (and I just forgot about it). When I went with my friend (she helped me a lot with the photoshoot) to the park, there are very lot of people in the park. We did not expect it. As a result, Wizard has been in the focus ^_^ Nevertheless, we were able to successfully climb a tree (to crawl through the bushes to get to the tree, if I'm not mistaken, it's fir). Then, after wandering in the park a little more time, we could not ignore the lilac, tree is very beautiful and it smell so nice, even I did not want to leave.
In general, everything is as it should be. Winter Elf have first visit to the summer forest. Vizard was happy, though he smeared not only clothes, but also himself. We had a long laundered =D

    9. I have a question(or 10).... I have a fairy character that is represented in two different dolls. I think it would be fun to try this challenge for her, but I want to know if I'm allowed to use them both? Because she is supposed to be able to shift sizes, I would be making the same outfit twice. Would that be two separate entries, or just one? Would it be better to just pick one of her already existing outfits and make a duplicate, or would that be outside the realm of original design?

    10. BlissfullyModest ~ The rules are that contestants can enter only one doll and that the outfit must be designed specifically for the challenge. So 'no' to both questions. Hope that helps.

Ok! I've finally got my photos put together. The concept I was going for is a fairy in the modern world. I imagine if fairies were flitting around in our world they might draw some inspiration of their own from our styles, and frequent the parts of our world that glow with color. My ultimate goal was to make a modern fairy that still has some elements of a traditional fairy.

      Front

      Back

The bottom tier is made of white chiffon that has been cut and sewn into the shape of flower petals, the second tier is made of black chiffon, also cut into petals. The black chiffon petals are topped off with purple stretch chiffon with a raw edge. All of the petals are lightly sprinkled with swarovski crystals that were applied by hand. Wrapped around the waist is a very delicate belt made of white organza snowflake shaped flowers, the center of the belt has a flower with two swarovski crystals, with a black organza butterfly on either side, each butterfly has a beaded body.

The body suit is made of a black stretchy fabric with gold threads weaved through out the fabric. The armband is made from the same material as the body suit, with purple stretch chiffon petals, and one petal made of a beautiful shimmery black and purple fabric with silver cobwebs.
Finally, the wings are cut out of neon yellow PVC, and hand etched in a micro chip pattern to give a modern spin to the whole outfit.

On to the accessories! Hidden under the petal skirt is a shimmery garter belt that is adorned with more crystals and tiny glitter accents.
To tie up the hair, the hair ties are made of the shimmery fabric, and sewn into the fabric are strips of neon yellow PVC that has been curled to give it a more playful feel. To add a bit more glam there are gold hoop earrings with gold beads and cute hearts and stars on the side.
The hat is made from a chiffon like material that is covered in golden glue drops and diamond shaped gold rainbow glitter and the band is made of the same material as the body suit. The decorations are made from white chiffon, and the purple and blue shimmery fabric. In the center of the white flower is a pink LED (that is overpowered by the sunlight).

      Detail 1

The long sleeve is wrapped with a gunmetal gray chain, that goes around the back and bodice. The belt and wings are illuminated by a black light.

Wysteria's Fairy Costume. This girl is all about mix and matching, though usually she likes brighter colors she wanted to go more in the direction of a garden fairy with green tones and florals.

      Front:
Pieces included Layered outfit with 3 accessories Choker, Circlet and Wins: Plum under dress with ruffled halter neckline, pale coral shear underskirt, ruffled floral overskirt with attached green trimmed belt with leaf/floral closure in front. Green on green striped sleeve gloves with ruffled floral over sleeve, matching striped stockings, strips of striped fabric for hair ties. Burgundy feathered and leaf accent wings with detail ribbons and flowers. Golden circlet with flowers intertwined on the side and matching choker out of the shear coral fabric, and green trimmed. I only the other hand have been unmmotivated as late, trying to dig through fabrics I already have and not coming up with anything that matches what I wanted to do so now I'm trying to pull out fabrics that might look good for a fairy and then come up with a new plan for the design. Feeling the pressure but 5 day weekend during memorial day soo I should be able to whip something up.

All but two pictures were blurred; even the one I used isn't as clear as it should be. It just got too dark to take any more and what I have is hopefully good enough.
I think she came out quite well and if I didn't like her so much as my little Iris of the lavender hair I'd leave her this way.

    54. I'm sad that two of you could not finish this challenge; it's frustrating when you have to bow out. But I'm happy to see that everyone else managed to finish. Such a lovely assortment of skills: lots of wire work, beading, lighting, wings, and one of the largest assortments of fabrics I've seen so far. They are all so different from each other. Everyone did such a marvelous job it will definitely tax the judges this time.
TinHao: I had to look up your reference to ZanZarah; that is a very interesting video game and story line. And yes, she would fit right in.
