      PROJECT RUNWAY GAME 10

THE SECOND ANNUAL GLITZ AND GLAMOUR LOGO CHALLENGE

We have decided to host the Logo challenge every year to give all of our designers a chance to have their creations represent the Project Runway games. The winner of game 10 will have their winning photo used throughout the year 2012.

The winning photo will become the property of Project Runway for the year 2012 and cannot be posted or used on any other website. This applies to the glamour photo only.

We want to thank last years winner, Blue Oracle, for her wonderful costume!

      CONCEPT:
The emphasis is on GLAMOUR! We want to see long evening gowns for the gals and suits for the guys. Outfits should be of a design that would be worn to the Academy Awards, the Queen’s coronation and other super formal celebrations.

      CHALLENGE:
Add a little glitz to your design, such as sequins, jewels, buttons, lace,
      pearls, embroidery, etc.

      RULES:
Evening gowns must be full length of any design.
Suits must include a jacket (does not have to be a tux), and vest.
Costume must have two accessories such as: stole (fur/knitted/crocheted/fringed/etc.), hat, purse, tie, jewelry, lapel corsage, cane or whatever you choose.

      JUDGING:
Entries will be judged onthe following:
      Interpretation of thechallenge
      Design Concept
      Accessories
      Aesthetics

      TIMELINE:
Entries can be posted anytime between now and Feb 1[SUP]st[/SUP].
The deadline for posting entries is Feb 1[SUP]st[/SUP] at 11:59 PM, PST.
The game will start on Feb1[SUP]st[/SUP] at 11:59 PM, PST.
The game will end on Feb 29[SUP]st[/SUP]at 11:59 PM, PST.
48 hour extensions will be from Feb 29[SUP]st[/SUP] at 11:59 PM, PST until March 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] at 11:59PM, PST.
Winners will be posted on or about March 14[SUP]th[/SUP].

      PHOTOS:
Your entry must contain 5 photos: full length photo of front, full length photo of back, 2 detail photos (may be collages) and glamour photo that may include props. These photos must be in your entry, not in a separate post. Design concepts and progress photos can be in a separate post. Photos are not judged, but please make sure they are clear and taken in good lightening.
Due to the problem we’re having with posting the winning photos, all photos must be 480 x640. That way all entry photos will be uniform in size.
      PLEASE NOTE THIS CHANGE!

notes. the dress is created in two parts. a knee length ruffled dress made of dyed silk "hankies" quilted between pink net and cream silk organdy. an underskirt of descending ruffles which echo those colors lengthens the dress to floor length in the back and ankle length in the front for formal occasions. it closes with pink ribbon laces in the back
accessories include a hand knit silk/mohair shawl, a coordinating fascinator for her hair, a iridescent beaded necklace, and a thread crocheted purse with a metallic green lining and beaded chain.

The dress though hard to see also has purple and teal crystals randomly on the skirt. This was interesting trying to get the bodice shaped correctly. She has a beaded headdress and a long trained cloak as her accessories. I used acrylic paint with a textile medium to add purple to some of the butterflies to better tie it in with the dress.

Entry: This is a woman who is shy, yet knows she can't avoid the spotlight. The style is meant to convey this in the use of an informal bodice, yet the glitter, rich color and overall length show that the occasion is still formal. There is an intricate bow accenting the waistline, and the lowcut back is cross-laced up to keep a sense of modesty. The jewelry was designed to complement the simplistic yet elegant appearance. The clutch is styled as one chosen to complement the jewelry and accents on the dress. The shoes are a low heel with crossed strap. The hairpiece is of the same lace that covers the dress, and carries the same accent that adorns the sash on the dress.

    13. i updated my entry form so it is now complete. but i have another question... it says the game starts on feb 1st. does that mean we can't start designing yet? i've been busy sketching and pulling fabrics 'cause i don't live near a fabric store and have to order most of my supplies on line, with usually at least a two week wait, so i'm trying to figure out what and how much i need.

    14. Because many people purchase supplies on line, you can order fabrics and draw your design before the challenge starts. However, the actual sewing should start on Feb 1st and not sooner.

    19. A question was asked whether the men's suit had to be 'traditional'. It should consist of a jacket/coat, pants, shirt and vest, plus two accessories.

We don't want to curb our designers creativity so the jacket/coat can be long or short, have tails or no tails, have a lapel or no lapel. The shirt can be plain or ruffled, have a collar or no collar, etc. The requirement is that it be of the type worn at a formal function.

      Hope this helps!

    20. I'm trying to decide whether I will have time for an entry for this challenge, but I'm a bit confused about the accessories rule. It says each costume must have two accessories. Does the one accessory referred to in your most recent post only apply to suits and two will still be required for gowns, or has the rule been amended to one accessory for all costumes? If so, the rule should be amended in order to avoid confusion such as I am having :ablink: lol!

The entry consists of a gown, neck collar, wrist cuff and clutch, all made out of the same two fabrics. The dress is a simple princess-seamed, mermaid-style sheath with a sweep train, decorated with faux leather at the neckline and two faux leather belts with jeweled buckles (made from jewelry findings). The matching collar was sewn from seven pieces of material to mimic the seaming in the dress. The collar and the simple matching cuff are tied on using black lace trim instead of eyelets or grommets. The dress has an invisible zipper in the back. Everything was machine-sewn. All edges on the gown are finished, although the gown is not lined.

Decided to go full glitz on this one. A little Rockabilly Gangster-ish. Fabrics: Jacket in burgundy metallic red taffeta with fine pinstripes; accents of black velvet glitter pocket facings; black glitter collar, black glitter patterned vest, simple white top, matching burgundy/red tie, fabulous pants in the same fabric as the jacket with racing stripe black glitter velvet down the sides. To top it all off a nice black glitter hat with band.

    45. Sign up for challenge 10 is now closed.

      Welcome designers, old and new!

We're so pleased that we have so many contestants! It's our hope that no one is forced to drop out. Please remember that if you're unable to complete the challenge, to post your intention to withdraw in this thread before the challenge is over. It's very naughty to just disappear without a word and we know that none of you are naughty! LOL!

Good luck to everyone and let the game begin!

    51. I decided to go with the less ambitious of my two potential designs because I just didn't think I could pull of the more complicated design in the time available to me. I'll keep it in mind for the future, though.

I'm going for a sophisticated look that will be simple and stark for my edgy girl. My goal is to have a well-made, well fitted garment at the end of the month, even though it will likely lack the pizzazz most of the other designers will bring. I'm also looking forward to playing around more with the capabilities of my new sewing machine. I'm overwhelmed by the ability to do more than just stitch straight and zigzag.

I'm planning on making a gown, a neck adornment, cuff, and clutch. I considered doing a corset back on the gown, but I think my design will be better served by my attempting once again to set a zipper. This weekend I will start trying to draft a pattern and do a mock-up.

    52. mydaffer ~ don't be discouraged! Everyone has to start somewhere.

Win or not, the games are a good opportunity to improve your sewing skills and build confidence.

The emphasis is on design, which gives our contestants the chance to push themselves, explore their creativity and challenge their imagination.

Then there's the process making their design a reality, transforming it from a thought into a costume.

Just take it a step at a time so you don't get overwhelmed and I'm sure you'll be surprised at what you're capable of doing!

    53. I like the simple, yet elegant look, and will probably try to follow that. That being said, I know that the challenge is for more 'glitz' so I'm trying to plan adornments and fabrics that follow that. I will be making a dress, clutch, and some sort of hair-piece. If time allows I will probably attempt to make shoes too, but that means finding material.
