Just the thought of the Poobanator in a mall is terrifying beyond words! Morgaine hissed at me when I looked at her, Vanye ran...and Wiishu just looked confused. Good thing I have absolutely NO time this month. I'll watch while you all shop.

Since I think of Mookie as a perennial 10 yr old boy, I think his main interest at the mall is to play games at the arcade and hang out with his buds. He is wearing his cargo shorts for comfort and a tank top to keep cool while engaged in virtual battles. (Maybe the tank top is also for impressing any female middle school aged passersby as well). He also wears his favorite lucky "4th of July" shirt just in case chillin' at the mall gets too chilly. He always brings his back pack to hold all of his important guy stuff. A baseball cap completes his usual mall ensemble.

As you can see, he looks overjoyed to be going shopping. All he's after is a nice respite from the high heat and humidity and maybe a few hours in the arcade with his buds. But it seems like the girlfriend has gotten wind of the pending mall visit....

Well, he's arrived at the 'Maul' and heading for the Arcade. He's got his water bottle - you can't run off and to get a drink in the middle of a game! He's got plenty of money for the games. He's has gotten a few looks for wearing a hoodie but hey, his favorite game is right under an air conditioning vent and it gets chilly after a few hours! He thinks that he's dressed fine: too bad he didn't see the girlfriend closing in on him.

So here we have a traditional dilemma reminiscent of the tiger or the lady; do we continue to blindly follow the girlfriend around the other half of the mall or do we drop the bags (and the girlfriend) and go to the arcade with our buds like originally planned?
My money's on the arcade.

Comfortable and cool summer attire, perfect for the stroll around the mall. Though she should have stopped by the nail salon and got a manicure..lol. Outfit consists of a floral ruffled tube top, pink lace vest, tan shorts with pink top-stitching. Accessories/Props: jade necklace, lace belt, matching sandals, striped purse, hair flower, shopping bag and you can't go to the mall without money.

I have purchased all fabrics and supplies I think I will need for this challenge lol! Of course there is always the possibility of getting more to add on. I hope to take photographs and document my process for this challenge since I haven't for the last couple. Wishing everyone else good luck and I can't wait to start seeing others' progress!

 

Well I was almost finished this weekend..but decided to go with a different look for her bottoms..need to finish this week as I got tons of other stuff to do.

 

Hi elfmoon, I have my shirt and accessory designed and fabric picked out, the pattern for the shirt is complete, but I hate cutting out patterns so - my major weakness.

I am debating between two fabrics for the bottom half as that might change my pattern design. The time is growing short I know.

 

Well, I'm not really too good at drawing clothes and such, but I do have a list.
I'll start with the standard khaki cargo shorts with a pocket/loop/some type of holder for a water bottle, add a T-shirt with a pocket on the sleeve for his phone/music/whatever electronics, and finish with a sleeveless hoodie with a front pocket (with a secret inside zipped pocket) to keep his money in. There will also be a 'few' shopping bags to be carried around, courtesy of the girlfriend. The only problem is compatible shoes - I don't like sneakers (on my dolls and on me) and only have a very few pair. I've used the red ones so I'll have to see if the work boots fit him; if not...?

 

Ladyfeather I have the same problem with shoes I ordered the perfect pair but they were too small and they don't come in a bigger size, hopefully the replacement pair get here in time and fit. Your outfit sounds amazing lots of details to sew, can't wait to see.

 

almost done with mine..should finish today with the outfit and hopefully the props.

 

I've got my sketch done and the fabric selected-dyed one piece to match the other and have also dyed the trim. The pattern is fairly simple, so now it's just a matter of running up a few seams. I'll post pics later today.

 

Hangs my head in shame because I haven't started yet Tonight I will start, I don't know what I'm doing until I look at my fabrics (I'm once again giving up hope of going to the fabric store) and see what will do for Barbie. Once I start I'll be fully into this project

 

Here is my fabric selection, still awaiting hardware to make my manbag and the zipper to make the shorts.

 

Well, I've gathered what I need for my project.



1: one pure cotton handkerchief for the cargo shorts, complete with wrinkles. No perma-press here!
2: one T-shirt to make, surprisingly, one T-shirt. Bought a bunch of them when there was a 5 for $10 sale; easy way to stock up on color knits.
3: one piece of plasticized stretch mesh for the hoodie. Hopefully this won't melt on the needle. I think the problem from the last project was from the glue attaching the sequins to the fabric, not the sequins themselves. Not sure about the inside pocket now since I'm using a mesh. I'll think of something else.
4: An elasticized knit hair band to make the socks.
5: The shoes are a pair of soccer shoes - they have spikes on the bottom. I didn't know I had these. Always surprises when I go through the storage drawers.
6: The water bottle came with 'My Twin' tent that I got for Christmas one year - I've never used the bottle since it looks out of scale even for the bigger dolls, but it will do in a pinch.
7: The plastic bags are what they wrap our newpapers in when the weather is inclement and they will become the 'shopping bags'. I've been saving them for years and have all sorts of colors. Sometimes it pays to be a packrat.
There will be some decals added later but I may need to visit the Dollar Store for those if I need more.

So much progress--looks wonderful. Well, I actually made the dress pattern and cut it all out yesterday-I think that was the most challenging part. the actual sewing is pretty simple, but I won't get to it until this weekend.

I am just starting, since I've been away from home (and my model) for a month. Argh.

 

Oooooh! Two entries finished! Both are great interpretations of the theme. Should be a great contest - again.
I've put everything away tonight. So far I've sewn seams that shouldn't have been, sewn another piece to the back of the shorts when when I attached the one pocket to the front of the shorts, forgotten to sew on a piece.... I sat and ripped for an hour. This was after my normally perfect machine kept trying to make a meal of the T-shirt; luckily I won that round. Even the shopping bags got into the act when I worked on them.
There are those days when you just shouldn't touch anything complicated; today was one of those days. I'll try again tomorrow.

Thanks! He does looks ready to head for the mall, thankfully I have a firm grip on my wallet (I wish). Since we live near the water I had to add some tropical feel without going full Hawaiian shirt, after all this is a design challenge. I think the shoulder bag is manly enough for him too. lol

 

My entry is up. I think I had more fun with the back story on this one than any of the others so far.

 

Awesome work LadyFeather, great outfit and those shorts are fantastic the pockets must have been tricky! I too vote for the arcade I think his girlfriend has pushed the boundaries too far, great story.

 

Unfortunately I am going to have to drop from this challenge. I just am so overwhelmed with running my homestead and working 40+ hours a week that all my "free" time is spent canning, pickling, preserving and napping lol. Good luck to everyone! The entries posted so far are awesome and I hope to be able to keep up with this challenge when I can.

 

Witchcraft - so sorry to hear you cannot finish. Perhaps you will be able to join in another PR Challenge in the future. I know how work and canning season do eat the time. My tomatoes are just starting to come in!

Done and posted. One of my usual 11th hour efforts. I even used a vacation day to stay home and work on it. Great work everyone. I am always amazed how many interpretations of a theme there can be.
