Hey there! I was wondering if anyone else is or was in a similar position like me? I ordered a bjd from legenddoll on layaway and the layaway was completed for 3 months. As of July it was paid off. I am curious if anyone has waited months for a doll from legenddoll after layaway was completed? I was told by Erica he was ready for shipping since June 10 but now I am told he was not and now it will be October soon. I am told different things when I email. Is this normal for the company after layaway is complete?
It mostly depends on the company as some take longer and some take less time to produce the dolls, so even when a layaway is paid off, it might still be a while until your doll is done. Some dollmakers only start producing the dolls once the layaway is paid as well. Or perhaps something went wrong in the production process and they had to start over again? In any case, I'd keep mailing Erica in regular intervals about your order if there's been conflicting info and if the estimated production time (visible in legenddolls listings) is overdue. Only the dealer will know best about your order.
Thank you for this information about how this works! I will be sure to continue to emailing. This will be my very first doll and I’m learning so much about the process. I’m very excited!
Something similar happened to me with Legend Doll, though in my case it was because an item that was a part of my order had not yet arrived. Did you order multiple items in your layaway? I ordered a pair of jointed hands and a body sometime around February or March*, it was marked as ready to ship (with tracking) around July, but was told a few weeks later (after I sent an email) that my tracking was updated/sent erroneously because the hands were missing/hadn’t arrived. I ended up getting my package at the end of September. Even if you hadn’t ordered multiple items the post above me explains the process well enough; I wouldn’t worry too much about it. Personally my waiting times have been about four to six months (through Legend Doll) and I’ve mostly been ordering parts, not full dolls. Edited April to March* It has been a while. ^^;
Legenddoll is a trusted dealer and Erica is very nice so your order is definitely in good hands! Sometimes things might be a bit confusing because of language barrier or miscommunication as well so it's always worth just asking if something is confusing Good luck with your doll, I hope you don't have to wait too long any more!
I'd look in the waiting room threads for the particular dollmaker and dealer to see how long other people have waited. As said upthread, some dollmakers make the doll while you're paying off the layaway, and some only start once the balance is paid. Production times also vary between dollmakers: a friend recently had a body with a 1 1/2 month production time, whereas I'm nearly at a 2 year wait for a Bimong order. I agree with @cobaltconduct – having a dealer with a good reputation means you can check in with them and get them to do the legwork of chasing down the order updates. I hope your wait will be over soon!
Did you order your doll with faceup? When I ordered from Legendoll, Erica actually had the faceup done separately, as in she received the finished nude doll from the company, then she sent it off to her faceup artist (who does great work BTW). I had sent an email asking about my doll after the expected shipping time and was told that it was ready, but what Erica actually meant was that the nude doll was ready and she was going to send it off for its faceup. The faceup took around another month. Then she sent me a photo of the faceup before it was sealed to make sure I was happy with it. And my doll was shipped soon after I approved of the faceup.
Thank you! That’s good to know that she’s a trusted dealer. I had a bit conflicting communication in email but I feel like you helped me understand that it’s a wait period and it’s possible that it wasn’t ready yet so it’s a process. I hope so too! I can’t wait till he gets here! No faceup just the doll itself. For this doll I plan on doing the faceup myself but I do intend on getting another doll with faceup in the future. That’s good to know that faceup will take a little longer. I see..I think my situation is very similar. I was told it was ready on June 10, then given a track number on August 25 and then I was told to wait 3 days if it didn’t update to email. I emailed once the tracking had not updated and was told to wait 2 more weeks. When it didn't update again I emailed again and then last week Erica told me that they hadn’t received it yet from the manufacturer but that in 2 weeks it will be delivered. It was a lot of conflicting information via email so it has me a bit worried. I feel like perhaps like the previous user stated, it just wasn’t ready yet. I’m hoping I won’t have to do another email after all and he’ll be ready to get here soon!
