Lost/Damaged Problems with Australia Post?

Feb 3, 2011

    1. I've been having some problems lately and I wanted to know if anyone else has experienced the same things and what should I do about them?

When my FCS was shipped I got a slip in my mailbox to go pick him up from the post offce. Firstly, isn't EMS supposed to deliver to your door? Otherwise, the slip was labelled with "Registered Airmail" and location was "Out Back". Whatever that means. I was disappointed with the lack of proper labelling. When I went to pick him up the customer service was disgraceful, but that can be bumped down to lousy country workers.

This didn't bother me too much, but yesterday when I was on my way out, I noticed our big recycling bin tipped upside down just inside of our gate. My mum flipped it the right way up and pulled out my package from Leeke. It was labelled with EMS and a tracking number and everything. It had a massive dent in the corner and was half open. Why would they shove my package into our BIN and damage it so?

Now I'm paranoid that when my Ai fullset comes that they're going to do something similar. Or leave her on top of my mailbox for my neighbours to steal. (they're not nice people. >.>)

Has anyone else had similar problems? How should I deal with them? I'm afraid that if I make a formal complaint that the postal workers will know it's me and mishandle my mail even more. :|

    2. Omg D=. That is absolutely horrible! If it was EMS they must've faked your signature as well because they aren't supposed to just leave it there. Have you checked the tracking online to see if it's been 'delivered'?
A few months ago I also got a package that was half torn open, but I just assumed someone else did it because they saw it out the front. I made an official complaint and have not heard back yet.
I think you should definitely complain. It's not acceptable they do stuff like this :(

    3. I've had extreme amounts of trouble with Australia post but i've also had really good times with them too..
It's so hit and miss i'm scared to buy things sometimes (including non-doll items!)
Half of the full dolls i've bought have had some issue or another shipping wise (tracking as well... the tracking is so frequently updated when its in another country but as soon as it comes to Australia they screw up the tracking)
When i ordered a doll once it said my parcel had been delivered twice but that no one was home to sign for and collect the package and that they were sending her back to Korea (which isn't true... i was home all day). My mother and I spent at least 2 hours on the phone calling our local post and Melbourne post. It turned out my parcel had only just arrived in Melbourne the previous day (it hadn't even arrived here to have even tried to be delivered!) and i ended up getting it in the next couple of days (the box wasn't in the best shape either.. luckily my doll wasn't harmed. I swear when they see fragile on a box they just chuck it around for fun *_*)
I also had another experience where the mail man tried to deliver my parcel to the neighbors and when we went in there to pick it up (they tell you to pick it up before a certain time so we rushed in there as soon as our neighbors told us) and they said the vehicle with my parcel in it wasn't back yet and to wait until close time to pick it up. The box i got that time was the worst i had seen but again luckily nothing was damaged.
However i have had occasions where i buy things through the mail and it comes in the smallest possible time it takes to get here and i'm chuffed that it arrived so early.
But i've never once gotten customs... so i guess that's a plus :)

    4. It said it had "Attempted Delivery" at 2am yesterday =S
I've paid for EMS on every single thing I've bought from overseas. Not one of them has come to my door. They've all gone to the post office and I've had to pick them up. I usually ignore the "Attempted Delivery" because its always in the middle of the night. O.o
The tracking for my Ai hasn't updated at all since the parcel left Thailand, which worries me. The last time she updated was the 2nd. I won't be able to get another complete, mint fullset easily so I'm really hoping nothing happens to damage her.

@mk13 I don't know if they faked my signature or not, its all generally written in this book. They could have just neglected to write the tracking in there in the first place and just figured since it was a light package (wigs and eyes) that they couldn't be bothered with a signature. I'm making a formal complaint as soon as I get the chance. Just because its a small town and you know everyone it doesn't mean you can treat peoples parcels like garbage just because you don't like them.

@x3Ashley I'm beginning to think about getting a post box in the next town over so I can have everything addressed there. I think it's just my local post office being -several bad words here- because I'm such a hassle for them. With all the packages I get I guess I make them work just too hard. -.-

What should I do if my Ai never shows up? I know she has to be in the country by now. =[

    5. I've been in this hobby for a few years now and I've never had a problem with deliveries apart from the "We tried to deliver and no one was home" cards, when I know for a fact I was home. I think they just stick them in the letterbox because they're too lazy to get out of the truck. Anyways...apart from that, not a problem. I've had packages delivered from overseas and interstate and I've always received them.

This past month I posted a doll head to Qld for a faceup and it arrived quite safely. Then came the floods and the cyclone, but the artist posted the head back to me this week and it arrived today.

So I've got no complaints about Aussie Post, but don't get me started about Customs - grrrrrrrr

    6. i asked once when a parcel tracked as attempted delivery and was told that what it actually means was they attempted to put it on the delivery truck from the main depot, but it was full and it had to wait for the next round. i must be lucky, my parcels always come by the post contractor not the mailman and only go to the post office if i'm not home. the contractor knows me now.......
Customs don't come into play unless you go over the $1000 mark. things then get complicated. i used to be able to go to the depot and fill out the forms etc, but since 9 11 the public isn't allowed to anymore and you have to go through an agent.
Austpost is still better than the german version. i have a parcel posted from germany on december 21, and the tracking shows it sitting in hamburg since the 5th january. i contacted dhl and they said "oh, yeah, delays to australia. ho hum we can look into it when THREE MONTHS have passed".......

    7. Well, i don't know how things work in Australia, but I do know that here in Canada, the non-delivery and use of a slip is pure laziness on the part of the individual post person. I was at home and the package magically became "failed attempted delivery" so they didn't even BOTHER to come to my door. They are not allowed to do that, but what they do is not even bother to take the packages out for delivery, and then just put the slips in the mailboxes.

That recycling bin fiasco is VERY alarming.

Check up on your post office's policies and file a complaint if you can, considering this is a constant happening. It should be entirely anonymous, and you have every right to do so.

    8. I'm aware of the cyclone =3
It's in an entirely different state to me though and shouldn't affect flights coming into Sydney, also since the package should've been in the country before the cyclone touched shore.

But I'm going to fix this post office thing. Thanks for the suggestions everyone. =]

    9. Maybe its because of "Rural" australia? I live in Townsville up north and they still deliver EMS straight to my door :/ it might just be your post office staff who are lazy or cant be bothered! I'd report it to auspost on their website or phone as thats just unsatisfactory, ems is fully insured. I ordered a rather expensive little doll and paid EMS but after 10 buisiness days of waiting she still wasn't here so i rang them up and she came the next day cause apparently it was a problem with them >_> definitely report what they did, and maybe then the higher ups will do something.

    10. Actually, given that Yarsi was the size of Mainland America, it affected flights all over the Eastern Seaboard. >_>

Your package should start moving again - however, it depends on where it's passing through. If it's coming anywhere from the Singapore direction, it'll probably pass through Perth, with delays due to the current bushfires.

Australia Post is pretty good, but if you're having issues with it, you can request your parcel be shipped through a courier company like FedEx or Australia Air Express. They're more expensive, but the service is more consistent and less likely to encounter errors.

    11. Like any kind of job, everything always boils down to the individual. I'm sorry to hear that you've had bad experiences with them :( I can't say I've had any but maybe that's because we live in the CBD, where the volume of mails probably is quadruple of the number anywhere else.

EMS should ask you for a signature, however some of the couriers probably dont check if that person is a legitimate representation of you (i.e your family). AFAIK ANYONE in the property could sign for it, including perhaps your horrible neighbours who might have stood in and told them they would deliver the parcel to you.

I dont think EMS has a phone number to call either, unlike Fedex or TNT. If you consistently get bad service, maybe it's time to cop the flak and get one of the personal couriers to do it :(

    12. Titania actually EMS australia DOES have a phone number, as thats the number i had to call for my package that wasn't delivered for ages, i can't for the life remember it but the auspost people gave it to me....

    13. So it's seem like we all have the same problems ^^.

I was sitting near the front door to wait for my package. The post office did come but just to drop the slip "no one at home" and drive off so fast. As soon as I see them, I didn't even have time to open the door and run after them.

I have a bell and I did open my garage door but they didn't even bother. I have to pick up all my dolls so I get use to it by now without complaining. If they did chuck my doll in the bin, I will complain for sure since we have to pay expensive EMS.

    14. this might be a late reply but anything you didnt sign for EMS, you can just call up and ask where it is and ask they to pay for the whole thing....they dont have you signiture, so they "lost it". that happened to me when the postman decide to leave my ems package outside my front door when no1 is home, I called demanding my package or a signiture from me, obviously they have neither, so they had to refund my purchase. I hope that postman at least got a slap on the wrist.

    15. Okay, I know this is kind of topic but it is some how relate to Australia post. So I just want to post here to let you know what other may view about our post office.

My story is I want to order some outfit from a famous ebay dealer name jeeryama and to my surprise I can't order at all. I sent her an email and just received her email back now. I guess our post get in a lot of trouble and have a bad reputation out there.

I am kind of sad. There are so many things I want to order from her since she always give free shipping and discount T____T.

      Hi,
We are very sorry for stop offering all the trade in your country.
Because your local post office is very rude, they have broke or damaged many of our parcels, we have lost much and refund much~ so now your country is the High Risk Buyer Area for us.
Please kindly understanding us. Thank you.
      yours Christina

    16. leanson, I found that too :( I'm not sure blaming auspost is the best way to fix the problem though, sellers like jeeryama could easily work to package and label their goods better, and also purchase (or force their buyers to purchase) insurance on shipments.

It's backwards and more costly, but one way around it is to have your order shipped to a friend in another country and then have them forward the order to you.
