Problems with Akis Side Fins

So after trying to email Fairyland with no response and speaking with another Akis owner, I'm wondering if the fins I was sent are faulty or I don't know how to attach them. The merman tail had three openings, one for the large tail fin at the bottom, and two for the side fins near the hips.

I managed to attach the large tail fin at the bottom by removing the plastic piece, but the side fins I still have not managed to attach. There are two plastic pieces, which are not mentioned in the instruction manual, blocking me from attaching the side fins. The plastic pieces for the side fins are firmly attached, they don't twist out, and no tool I have used so far has let me remove them. The side fins do not go over the plastic pieces ether. I have included a picture, any help would be appreciated.

 

It feels like I got my order way earlier than most other people too. I ordered directly from Fairyland, and a lot of people order from DDE because you get a layaway plan. But direct from Fairyland always comes much earlier, so I wouldn't worry too much yet.

 

So after speaking to another collector, it seems you are correct. But the plastic pieces are just too big on mine (probably a factory error). I will need to shave them down. I can do this, but I don't know if it's worth it because his clothing covers up where you would see his side fins anyway. I'm still debating, but thank you for answering.
