I hope I can ask this here. I used to be very active on the forum here, and used photos from my flickr account. Now, because my computer can't handle flickr, I only have photos stored in my dropbox. Does anyone know how to post images here from my dropbox "share" link? I have googled it, and tried a few different things, but all my images still show up broken. Can anyone help me? Thank you!
I fear that I can't help with that question but since there is a thread about posting photos I'd like to pose a question of my own (or two) I use Flickr as my photo hosting site as well. Formerly I grabbed the BBS code in Flickr and pasted it into the post picture tool here in DoA. That is now broken. Not only can I not use it for new posts but **all** of my previous photos are gone. Not cool! Is there any way to use DoA's post picture tool anymore? Now I can paste the BBS code into the message but have no idea if I have the right link except by using the Preview function or actually posting the message and then editing if I get it wrong. Is this the new normal? Not an improvement IMO.
@TomB, don't paste into the picture tool. You never needed to do that in the first place, the point of the BBS code from Flickr is that the code is already present; the picture tool generates the code for you. If you're using it, you're just adding superfluous tags, which muddled through on the old platform (with visible excess tags), but fail on the new one. Honestly, this isn't so much a "change" as a repair of what was actually a broken system letting you do something you weren't supposed to do. The picture tool is only for use with direct links. The BBS code gets pasted directly into the message, and that's how it's always been meant to work. It's not the "new normal," it's how it's always worked. Sorry, but you've been doing it wrong this whole time. As for making sure you've got the right link, if you've copied it from the right image in Flickr, it'll be the right link. If you really want to use the picture tool, then you can load the "all sizes" option from the "download" link in Flickr, pick the size you want, and right-click the image to get the direct link. You'll be missing the link-back and title that are present in the BBS code, however.
@orphanssparrow It seems you might be able to, check this out. It looks like you have to dive into the file name a bit, and replace the 'shared link' location with the actual image location, or the true file. I can't speak to how it will work here on this forum, but it's worth a shot.
@Kitkaze Ahhgg! Yeah. Thank you. I had read that article and tried their suggestion before, but figured I'd try again. It doesn't work with DOAs picture insert thing, but it also doesn't work by itself (just copy and pasting), or copy and pasting it and adding html.
I'd venture a guess the reason it doesn't work with DOAs picture insert is that looks for a specific link to the exact url of the photo. I'm not sure that's the way dropbox works, as it's more of a file hosting than an image hosting like flickr or photobucket are. Lots of luck! You'll figure something out. Maybe another image hosting service will work better for you, seeing as flickr doesn't want to cooperate with your machine.
Thank you for the explanation! When I first joined here I asked how to post a photo and that's what I was told at the time. It worked, until recently, so I've continued to do it that way. Until now I've never understood how it is supposed to work.
