Post about you or your doll being an absolute derp!

Aug 10, 2024

    1. Apologies if some version of this already exists! Work has left my brain a total mush. Since I have the derps, I would love to hear some recent stories about collectors or their dolls being caught in silly, unserious, single-cell brain, complete derp mode. Text or photos welcome! This is only to have a laugh, not to laugh at anyone.

As a warm-up: I needed to glue magnets back into one of my dolls' heads. Looked up the appropriate glues to use, and admired the wonderful advice about marking which side of the magnet should be glued down. Read many such threads with warnings and stories of mistakes. Proceeded to not follow any advice, glued the magnet wrong side down. As a result I am the proud owner of Too Much Acetone, because that's what it took to remove the magnet. The doll now stares judgingly at me.

    2. My derpy moments are always: loosing the C shaped resin piece that covers wrist joints but finding it before true panic sets in. The magnetic hands love to lose those pieces! And always trying to get wigs to stay without silicone caps/silicone rings/anything that will actually give grip - when it slides off for the third time, I remember I have those things and get them lol.

Derpy Doll: Melkor for always throwing one of his hands off. Miko for being unable to hold any pose until I restring him so he flops like a fish.

    3. I usually scream "my new body came!!!" or any other part when awaiting something new or a new doll. Feels normal to me, but for everyone around its a strange thing if someone exclaims "my new eyes came! Finally!"

    4. My best derp is this photo of Sakki. She had fallen backwards while I wasn’t looking, her wig fell off and her eyes got jostled. It was so hilarious to me that I used it as my Flickr pfp for years

    7. Currently, unposed on the couch, Cooper looks like he's drunk as hell, and Bren is mocking him.*_*:mwahaha

    8. Oh my Rafeyah is such a dear, but her S hooks are SO clunky and she is strung SO tight that I often end up struggling to work with her when I need to replace her eyes or such. Combined with her face sculpt… cue me being stared at disapprovingly while I attempt to remove one of her hands or move an eye. Thank god her horns are magnetic

    9. @RamenDoodles this picture is so meme-appropriate :D Could I make it into a meme? :)

@CloakedSchemer The hanoi-after-hours vibes are strong in this picture :)

    10. Go for it! If you could credit RamenDoodles or justsomedollies I’d appreciate it :XD:

    11. thank you <3

okay, so here's the meme (doll owned & pic taken by @RamenDoodles )

    12. Acorn, my SDC Arashi, has a very pointy nose. I had left them standing but (surprise surprise lol) the doll lost balance so I ran for the rescue. They fell and... pecked me? right into my throat? (probably sounds more graphic than it actually was). I've been pinched by the joints, cut with the s-hooks, even had a doll smack my face but the bird feeding was new to me :sweat

    13. Once I moved my f-17 boy to sit atop my cabinet and then completely blanked and tried to open the cabinet, having him come crashing down at me which I luckily had caught him ^^;

    14. I once was gluing magnets into a headcap. Glued one in, so far so good. Glued the second one in... but the first one hadn't dried yet, because I was stupidly impatient. So naturally it was attracted to the second one, came flying across, and slammed into it, causing the glue to shoot up into my face. Cue me freaking out because super glue to the eye. Was not a fun day, but it's funny now.

Then there was the time I was doing a photoshoot on an old bridge over a river. Stood the doll up, leaning against a concrete support, not worried because he was normally a good stander. That sure was a mistake. Went to take a photo, and of course, he begins to fall sideways, toward the river below. :frownyblush: You can bet I dropped that camera as fast as I could to catch him instead. Funnily enough, it took a picture when I dropped it:

So I don't know if that's on Seth or me, but lol.

    16. Can't deny I cringed at the glue to eye story, glad you're able to laugh now!
And now your river panic is immortalized!

    17. Oh well... just SDC things :sweat (I've just received a new-to-me Kaede and she, too, is good at getting her eyes knocked back - immediately reminded me of Sakki's incident)

    20. My guys packer is magnetically attached, but the magnets are super weak so whenever I try to sit him down, it detaches.

Which meant last night I spent a good couple of minutes finding it after it launched itself across the room. It was a bit of a nightmare come true, since the last thing I need is a small resin phallus lost forever somewhere in my dorm room.

    21. The escape attempt failed hahaha! But seriously, thank goodness you found it!
