Posing request: ones you had to cheat to get!

It's kind of sad that I had to "cheat" to do this but uh, Senior Delf bodies totally can't touch their own faces. I'm holding it there off camera.

 

She's actually hanging upside down from a string tied around her ankle, then tied around my doorknob. I turned it upside down and cropped the string.

 

There's actually a string tied around the Green-wigged Puki's feet. Amazingly, the other puki (the purple hair one) is holding that position herself! No tricks :P

 

Haha Cal can't really hold his hand up like that so xD i held it.

Here's one of my Dollstown Soph Elf "dancing" I had her tied up to a tree branch with fishing line...she was just hanging!!.....

i obviously cheated with this one as sadly Lin can't really fly

i bound a string around her belly and neck so she was almost like a marionette (photoshopped the string out).

The falling paper was white-tacked to the floor on an angle.

 

Bean is being supported by the clear thread you can see at the top of the photo. I would have airbrushed it out, but it just didn't look right, so I left it in.

Surprisingly, this is the only photo I have of her where I 'cheated' to create the pose.

 

His arm is tied to his chest with some elastic ^^;

UGH! Those are my only two cheat shots I can think of...part of my little "Hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil" shoot. Which I really want to redo...they didn't come out exactly how I had wanted them to. Anyway!!! There you have it~

 

I recently did a shoot with my girl Lamia, and for some reason, the shoes I had her in did not want to keep her balanced on the concrete patio outside my place. So I used a big post to just lean her against.


I also did probably the most common that I'm seeing on here.... the ol' holding the hand to the face trick. My hand is out of the shot, holding hers up to her face.

 

this is the best one i have....im holding the back of his shirt cause it was too windy for him to stand on his own! XD

 

Larc wouldnt hold his arm up for these shots, so I used a thin stick to prop his arm up, luckily his sleve hid it ^^

 

Anyone want to resurrect an old game? I'd love to learn more "cheats" - aka more ways to do difficult things, or when the resinfolk are being uncooperative!

My lot mostly have to do all their own standing and posing without help, but this pose was just beyond my Kyle's abilities. So a fingertip on the top of his head was used to stabilize him, while I shot with the other hand--

 

I was holding Nightingale by the shins in this photo while my husband took the shot. Left to her own devices, she would have dove out head first faster than you can say Jack Robinson. ^_~

 

I had to hold Kotaro in place while my wife took the pic, Mie Ling stood there by her self

Last Christmas I did a photostory, and on this shot, I cheated:



It may have been possible to get Kohana to stay in that position, but I would have had to wire her legs and tighten her elastic more than I like to do. It seemed a shame to do all that for one shot, so I propped her up, then removed the prop in a Photoshop-like program later:

 

Because I've wired and sueded him, Lux can actually almost hold this pose on his own, but with his hand hovering in front of his face (about half a centimeter away) instead of actually touching his lip. I 'persuaded' his arm to hold the pose with one hand while I shot the picture with the other.

While he can actually hold thispose on his own (at least for a few minutes before falling in slo-mo in a faceplant towards the ground), Lux cannot hold the same pose with his waist bent, like in this photo:



Thanks to the wiring, his upper body mostly took care of itself. I held him by the right ankle to complete the picture, because otherwise, he only 'stands still' for about twenty seconds on his own. 8D

 

New pic I took the other day. Tarrant couldn't hold her up himself, so I "cheated" by putting Alice's foot on the edge of the bed and leaned him against it.

 

Oh, I love this thread! Guess where my finger was? This picture took quite a bit Photoshop!

LOL i have to cheat in almost every photo i do

Some of which i remember the cheating procedure:

Cheated in so many ways
naturally zaolls just CANT do this pose at all
There are hidden cottonballs inside her thigh joints, to hold her legs like that



He isn't holding the glove in the truth,
There's a little triangular-shaped cap something underneath the right glove, "poking" it from the inside, and the other hand is just doing the gesture to look like as holding



The hands are around just to give the impression they're holding something,
There are some eyeputty stuck on his face, holding the eyes(somewhat visible underneath the right eye).
And his arms are sort of wildly dislocated underneath the blouse.



May not seem but it's slighty cheated
There are little balls of paper inside both of their neckjoints, under the jawpoint.... why? because zaoll's neck mobility is horrible
(she can't bent her head like this without help)
He has a piece of paper too, but it was just to correct the angle his face was gonna get framed

 

... I technically cheated for this photo, a little. It still took a bit of luck to pull off. Though once I got him up he was amazingly solid. ._o

This doll does not like to stand well (seriously, some months later he chipped his nose on concrete when he fell over while leaning against something), one of his legs was hooked on a convenient outgrowth. (This was also taken with him standing on a brush pile, not an actual tree.)

If you look close you can see the outgrowth crossing over the foot (the one in the back). That meant I could shift his weight forward without him toppling.

 

I use fishing line often for some of my poses, especially to hold arms in place. I had a "marionette helper" for this shot - holding the lines to the arms from above.

Kaida wanted to dance, sixties-style, and the older Elfdoll bodies just aren't capable of holding poses like this:









She was posed, semi-sitting, on a stand made for a shorter doll, which was later edited out.

 

heres one

my girl is pretty much holding the pose herself but obviously my homemade cow cant stand up herself on those skinny legs
there is actually a string attached to the top of the cows head and to its bum ..(that also helped keep my girls hair on too as she was leaning back on it)...i then just looped the string over a door handle to get the cow to look like its standing of sorts...and photoshopped the strings out after

 

This wasn't really a posing cheat, but both of my girls didn't want to hold their props so I ended up having to tape them into their hands and then shop the tape out (well, not for the one on the right because the bow around the flowers covered it up)

 

looking through pictures... I've utterly fallen in love with my lil guy.... as I've only had to 'cheat' for a few things, a crouch where I stabilized his heel (and can't find pictures off...) and holding up something heavy..



and for my big guy.. he mostly just sits about, but I've had to do the standard hold the elbow out of shot..

 

Clear sewing nylon - very useful stuff!

I also unashamedly use strands of wig to hold dolls steady: it's easy to photoshop out but often it's not necessary

 

My mum was holding the door, which was holding up Blake... We have really bobbley carpet which he can't stand on :]

This was a skilled cheat, his arm with the bow is propped on something off camera, while I am holding the violin on the otherside. Hehe.

 

Since this is on a metal wire and he is seemingly sitting on i had to hold his lower leg to steady him and take a quick shot before he tumbled over

 

In this one, I jammed erasers into Hansel's joints to get his arms to stay like that (he's single jointed).


A little less noticable, but I had to jam his hand under his chin to keep it near his head. Only reason I can pull off most of the weird stuff poses I do is because his elastic is really weak these days.


You wouldn't guess it, but Daolan was leaning against the wall throughout this entire shoot. He refuses to stand on his own some days.

 

I probably shouldn't have had to cheat for this one but..they're clearly leaning ever so slightly against the door lol. I was amazed though...other they that they didn't need any help and they stood like this for a good hour and a half. Solid things to stand against = me best friends! >.<

 

If you look close you can see the clear nylon line tying the pistol into Shao's hands. He just would NOT hold onto the thing. =)

 

Some of these "cheats" are really handy to know!
The only one I've used it the "holding arms off camera" one xD

 

Quite obviously I'm holding her hand in this. ^^; It's not like an un-sueded, snappy doll will stand on a wharf holding a toy boat as heavy as herself with no magic tricks...

 

In these two the cheat is fairly obvious..
The SD is leaning against the tree because there was no way I was getting him to balance on one leg in grass while holding the puki! XD


And here is the puki pretenting to hold up a horn that is as big as her...it is leaning on the hat in the background

 

I put tacks in the ceiling in 4 different places so that I could run mono-filament fishing line around her neck, her waist, just above her knees and her feet so that she would be suspended in mid air with her clothes hanging down. Then I had to darken the photo to hide the line.

He has museum wax in his hand to hold the magic wand.

The DDdy body isn't very flexible...so I detatched the upper chest part and hid the disconnected parts underneath the sweater

So, there were 2 shots actually, the one with a friend holding the right leg and the 2nd of the scene without the doll :D then I combined them in photoshop, it was a bit difficult cause I didn't use a tripod xD
I think it turned out pretty good :D

 

He was literally sitting on a fern growing in my garden. It would have never supported him. I got Malice to stand and then I balanced him from underneath with two fingers and took the picture with one hand. It wasn't easy but the shots I got were worth it.

 

I mainly got lazy trying to pose her on one leg...See that open drawer? Yup, she's leaning on it. XD

 

I rarely cheat with posing my dolls. But I do cheat and hold up an arm now and then.

This pose, however, needed clear fishing line to pull off. My best friend was holding up two strings wrapped around each shoulder and photoshopped out. (as always, thank you Kataxenna)


This one is fairly obvious. It was just taken for fun, but they are hanging upside down from that net thing. The girl on the right only has her shoe hooked. That's it. They were swinging from the ceiling. lol Totally stable and no way they'd fall, but we had two spotters anyway.


Little cheat only here. Yes they are leaning on the guitar, but the real cheat is that Ryuto (blue hair) has his left hand puttied to his boyfriends elbow. xD His hand wouldn't bend that far and stay...he has no s-hooks in his wrists.


Old photo from an old photostory. I had to cheat to hold up Wander (on right). My hand is around his waist as you can see in this unused photo. I can't remember if I had his arm propped up too or not. This was a really hard shot to get. x.x


Probably the hardest photo I've had to take was this. Took me over 20 minutes to set up and it's only thanks to Shae's hand on the table behind Tristan that it worked at all. (Shae is the one being carried)

 

Two small cheats in one story: Asher was held from the left side off-camera while I snapped this first pic, to make it look as if he was bending way over at the waist and peering under the seats. It wasn't as easy as it sounds - I had no helper and it was hard to reach!



And earlier in the story, Kaida appears to be rushing along one of the rows of theater seats. She would not have held this striding pose unless she was leaning against something... the theater seat was a handy prop in more ways than one!

 

This is a great thread - lots of good ideas to try



Sometimes I lay my doll down on a flat surface and shoot from above, makes it easier to control some of the posing, sometimes!

 

This one is a classice.&nbsp; I am holding Aki's elbow so I could bring his arm closer to his face. And I am using eye putty to hold the gun to his hand.




The same goes for Eli

 

Deena's foot touches the "barre" and obviously her hand touches Johnny's, otherwise she really can stand like that. But the biggest cheat here is the arabesque: I had to turn around her pelvis and of course the feet... oops, now I notice I forgot the other leg. That would look really weird without the "tutu"!

 

I have a couple of photos I "cheated" to take...

Here, I was holding Zane's legs...he wouldn't stand on my bed! He is actually holding the paper and pencil on his own though


For single jointed Adem I had to hold his hand to cover his face...


And I had to hold Zane here too...he was perfectly willing to carry Rhi, but wouldn't carry her and stand at the same time--I noticed that I'm not the only one with that problem!


And I thought I had cheated for this one...but I can't remember how. I don't even know how I took the picture, considering that that's my camera in the background...

he's not actually touching the ground i'm ever so slightly pinching the back of his coat and i put the camera at just the right angle so you cant see my hand probably the only photo of a doll i've taken that i actually enjoy

 

I have to cheat a lot when posing Spencer. He is such a terrible poser..he's loose and he came to me defective. So I cheat cheat cheat!

For these two I was actually holding him around the waist. My hand was hidden under his cape though, and I needed to zoom in anyway.



He also cannot hold his whip without a small rubber band. x3 haha

 

I usually use sticky dots to assist my dolls in holding small objects or keeping a limb in a difficult position, but the candlestick in this photo was too heavy so I used one of those transparent stretchy bands some doll companies use to hold the styrofoam padding on their dolls.
