He now has another name, but that is to be revealed... The only Cloud head I could locate for this project is a "normal-skinned" head. I want them to be "white." So, I had no choice but to do something. haha Ok, so here are the before-&-after photos of my own invention, the Powdered Donut Technique. I took my matte "resin" bakeable-paint primer. I used a small sponge brush & stroked it all over, being careful to get into his deeply-sculpted crannies. Then I took my large plastic bag of zinc oxide & rolled him around in it. On taking him back out of the bag, I brushed down the powder with the sponge brush - & voi`a, here he is VERY lovely white-bisque! I had to get into the crannies with a toothbrush & pounce away the excess - this photo will show some excess powder which I smoothed off prior to baking him. He is in the oven now. Here's de photos!: Yes, I did brush him down again w/the sponge brush & the unevenness you see is no longer there. When he is out, I will take another photo. The 1st photo was kinda touched up a wee & he doesn't look as yellow as he REALLY does there!
Ok, here's post-bake: I'm thinking of putting on another coat just as soon as he is cool enough! Still a touch uneven... I think another careful coat will solve the problem.
Er... You do realise that baking resin emits toxic fumes into your oven right? I hope you're not using your food oven Good luck with the project though, I hope you can even out the whitening with another coat or somehow!
Well, the toxic fumes are something I have been living with from college on (20 years) & they haven't got me yet... Yeah, he looks to be coming out ok.
On the subject of fumes: Cans of things like Mr. Super Clear etc. will emit FAR higher concentrations than baking resins for a few minutes; I do look at the directions for things, also. I bake Fimo & paintings with the resin paints. I would worry far more about melted or burning plastics than merely baked ones. Having said all that: If you have any doubts, don't do it. I'm fine with textile dye fumes, spray paint & varnish fumes, oil paint fumes, nail polish & sculpting fumes, even gasoline fumes. I've had them all around me at times, & never been the worse for wear. But I'm not telling anyone that they have to do things my way; just showing what I'm doing myself. So back to your regularly-scheduled start for a face-up (on MY "Cloud" head): Here is another photo, he has come out of the oven & the photos don't really do it justice, but even so he looks pretty spiffy after 1 more light dusting!
I never had any intention of baking any toxic substance in my oven, no. I've also dealt with all the fumes you've mentioned (real life throws that in everyone's way every day) but I doubt smelling the above fumes will be as bad as ingesting it for the 10+ years you cook your food using the contaminated oven.
