Yeah so what is every one's opinions I can't decide which way to go all though I am leaning on starting with epoxy and then switching to porcelain when I can afford it. I don't really like the idea of how toxic epoxy is though. Which is better in your opinion or give any advice that maybe helpful. and are there alternatives? thank you. also any one here of magic sculpt epoxy clay? It says its non toxic and it has really good reviews. Is it appropriate for ball joint dolls if any one knows?
Epoxy is not toxic once it's cured hard. Some people have allergies to the uncured product, and of course you should never breathe sanding dust from any type of clay. I like Apoxie Sculpt better than Magic Sculpt-- less sticky and easier to work with. You could also consider polymer clay (Sculpy) or paperclay (LaDoll). Of them all, I personally think LaDoll is easiest to work with and very safe.
thank you. I am thinking about going professional one day so I don't think LaDoll or sculpy is very pro like. Just thinking ahead. And I was thinking about an apoxie putty of some kind so I'm glad you mentioned apoxie sculpt and Magic sculpt because I was looking at them. I haven't tried LaDoll yet but I plan on it. Right now I'm still using sculpy. I'm encountering problems though.
Many pros use LaDoll for their prototypes-- Dollstown and Granado, for instance. There are also many pros who use Apoxie, like Twigling and Dollshe, so whichever way you decide to go, should be fine.
because I love the skin tones of dollmore I was thinking of using their apoxie putty but it's expensive. Still it might be worth the extra dollars for the beautiful skin tones. there are a lot of other supplies on dollmore that seem reasonably priced as well. Like S hooks and the round dremel piece. Still I might find cheaper who knows.
