Porcelain Dreams.. 40~cm doll- Unnamed.

Apr 25, 2012

    1. So im FINALLY getting back into sculpting BJD's with the intention of going all the way this time. I've decided to stick to an MSD sized doll but im hoping to eventually cast in porcelain instead of resin which means when done she should be around the 38cm mark. I meant to take more WIP shots but i've been making a Vlog of my process ( which you can see here: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLE0E880752891F93B&feature=plcp) so i keep forgetting to take pictures lol.

The Vlog isint a tutorial and i am by no means an expert. Just thought i would share the process of how i go about sculpting a BJD while giving some personal tips along the way. (its so hard to find videos about BJD sculpting on youtube!!)

Anywhoo, here's where im at so far..

And this is where i've stopped. (**the head is not the one i will actually be using, just a practice head for the video purposes)

So i have this image of a Japanese woman who is very tall and slender wearing male japanese work clothing (think the guy from princess mononoke) with the sleeve things and super tall geta (japanese wooden sandals). Anyways, Im trying to make a body with her in mind but i havent really developed the character yet. But everytime i think about her, i can see it sooo perfectly, she really wants to be made!!!

      And on a side note,

I just ordered 10 pounds of wax from Willow products (i ordered FUSE and ZEN grey) because im really tired of having to use multiple clays on one sculpt (la doll and apoxie) i want to be able to stick to one material from here on and i want to start now before i develop this sculpt too much. Now im off to the "Materials" section to hopefully ask some questions to the Queen of wax!! (Kwmelvin)

But yea, thats all for now, Thanks for looking!!

    2. I'll be following your progress most intently!! She looks lovely and slender. You may not call yourself an expert, but I admire your methodical approach and it's really great of you to share your process. I'm hoping to use porcelain too and I don't think I'd have the guts if there weren't people sharing their experience online :))
Looking forward to her development! :blush

    3. She looks amazing so far, I love her legs! :) And I'll be watching those videos of yours, it's always neat to look at how others do things! Thanks for sharing. :)

    4. :) I'm really liking the work done to the body. It's turning out well. Good luck with the feet and hands.

    5. Yey! You're back at it! I'm still procrastinating. I wish I could go to a jointing/body sculpting workshop. It'd be so much less frustrating in a room with other frustrated people, LOL!

    6. Thanks guys :D @dajzhavu! Tell me about it, but right now I'm worried the most about switching over to wax!! Hope it turns out...

    7. Wow that is really lovely! Idk why but the shape is so pleasing. I love the breasts.

    8. Thanks glimmer! I re did them about 5 times before I got them to this point but I think I'm happy now :)
