Popovy Sisters Glass Eye Magpie, Cuckoo, Little Owl, and Peewit Discussion - Part 2

Aug 28, 2020

    1. skinton coral it is so cool, this color is excellent in the photo. Ivory is a warmer shade, perhaps over time it will be like baked milk.

    2. Perfect!
I have a passion for photography and can´t wait to use all my stuff for my dolls.

    3. Has anyone got any of the popovy bjds with a venus body?

    4. I was originally not a fan of Popovy dolls ( I know, sad) but the more and more I look at them, especially their eyes, the more in love with them I become. I think I really need to bite the bullet and just order one because I think about them way to often and really only jumped into this thread to remind myself how beautiful they are and how much I need one haha

    5. I thought they were too skinny but saw some interesting photo shoots and that drew me to them. Would really love a popovy and one with the venus body, but not possible right now sadly.

    6. I chose to order Body III because I want to create the most possible poses.
I recently read that the Venus body solid torso is harder to pose with.

    7. I ordered mine in June, so now the wait begins!

Can someone post a pic of the inside of the head and headcap for me? I'm curious what the eye and hook situation is like.

    8. Has your doll arrived yet?

      • x 1
    9. :bump

Anyone here wanting to share a picture of your doll?
Who´s also waiting for their doll to arrive? :wiggle

    10. I have yet to bite the bullet in ordering a Popovy doll, it's one of my doll plans for 2024. :evilplot: To think that 2024 is right around the corner. This year felt like it flew by so fast.:chibi If all goes according to plan, I have been thinking of ordering a "phantom" skintone.

What's stopping me? Well, I was afraid of ordering a doll from Russia due to all the geo-political issues in Eastern Europe these last couple of years. Moreover, I bought a few bjds in 2022 and 2023 from other artists and my wallet demanded I pause on spending. :pout::...(

My other issue is that I am too covetous, and when I order a doll from an artist, I want to order all the extra hands and feet for more posing verstility, so that quickly adds up.:crushed :aangel:

    11. I was afraid as well! And making payment to Russia was a hassle as I never had or used a credit card before. :doh
I wanted make up and all the stuff, but as they are pausing with that, I had to organize a cross shipping so Peewit arrives all dolled up in January or February.
Ah...the wait is real in this hobby.
The phantom skintone looks amazing! Do you have a favourite facemold so far?

    12. When the sanctions against Russia started, I heard that some collector's dolls were stuck in transit for a long time. That was my main deterrent.

Igor and Natasha said that the sisters would not do face-ups and body blushing for blanks, as they no longer wanted to replicate their old work. Also, some of the outfits were open to commission in very limited quantities, as the fabrics often used were antique. Now it seems, the only way to get a dolls with the sister's face-up and body blushing is buy purchasing a full set girl or through the secondary market.

Yas, the long wait time is inevitable in this hobby. That's why it's always nice to chat about dolls with other like-minded folks.
Peewit, Cuckoo, and Landy are one of my favorite molds, but I find all of their molds very beautiful.

    13. Oh, poor people! My doll being stuck in transit is my worst fear. *_*
They still are doing full sets?
When I ordered my Peewit, they didn´t do ear jewelry and stuff. I have to take the matter in my own hands then.
What was the longest waiting time you had with a doll?

    14. @Eresmia - Yes the sisters are still doing full sets, the last one auctioned was Lilli Pop. They are currently finishing theFeathered Serpent collection.

I have waited around a year for a pre-order, which feels standard these days. :)

    15. I´ve been in the Telegram live auction and Lilli Pop went for 12500$. :aeyepop:
Now I´m curious about "Ocean" and "Amazonas". I like their jewelry and Madonna bodies.
Waiting 1+ year for a doll is a game of passion and patience! :mwahaha

    16. People who order Natalia Loseva dolls, can wait up to 3 years for a doll to be finished. This is one of those hobbys that one has to be patient. :daisy

The Popovy accessories are amazing and meticulously crafted, not a detail overlooked. Sadly, the prices for their OOAK girls are out of reach for most people. :arainclou

The Madonna body is very seductive, I read in the sisters stated that the Madonna body is only used for OOAK girls at this time. The sisters said this is their new body modification V and hand sculpted.

Maybe one day, the sisters will allow people to order Body V as a blank.:aangel::aheartbea:apresent:<3

    17. Wow! Three years! :ablink: That would be way too long for me.

For me the Madonna body has the best boobies. :wiggle
I would love to order a body V one day. Gosh, on a Quetzal mold would be perfect. One can dream, haha! :mwahaha

    18. At one point, the Popovy sisters had long wait times of around 2 years. The long wait time was due to them accepting commissions for blanks that included face-ups, body blushing, wigs, clothes, and accessories. Now, by keeping the pre-orders to mostly blanks and the periodical OOAK drop, it streamlined the wait times.

However, the downside is that it is very hard to get the coveted options listed in their catalog. Personally, I love the clothes and accessories from their Swan Lake, Royals, and Pupa Collections, but they don't accept commissions for these items due to no longer having the materials and/or no longer interested in replicating past work.

It's sad they discontinued the Quetzal face, the prices on the secondary market went up drastically for that mold. Hypothetically, if one buys a Quetzal second hand and then waits until the sisters introduces the Madonna Body V to the blanks, then one can make that amazing Popovy doll of your dreams. :apresent:

    19. Today my Little Owl came back from Great Britain and I can finally share this lovely beauty :love:D <3

Edited due to faulty assembling, her neck was upside down. :doh

    20. @Erasmia - she's lovely! I am always so charmed by Little Owl's pout. Congratulations on her arriving home!
I hope I can get faceups done soon too.

    21. Thank you!
I´ve adored Popovy dolls for many years and am glad that I finally dived into it this year.
Now I´m waiting for my Peewit, which I ordered from the Sisters in late August. :dance
Do you do the faceups on your own or do you send them to someone?

      • x 1
    22. :sumomo::sumomo::sumomo:Congratulations Eresmia, your Little Owl is lovely! :sumomo::sumomo::sumomo:

Glad to hear that she made it home safe and sound. :aheartbea

Is it ok to ask, which face-up artist you used?:fangirl:

    23. it's looking like I might need to do my own, as I'm not currently prepared to send the blank girls overseas, and in country seems like quite a few artists unfortunately do not work on these smaller heads. Still looking around a bit too. waiting on some clothes from a pre-order... you know the drill for the waiting game

      congrats on your Peewit too!

    24. Thank you very much!

I sent my doll to Zara Kry.
She is usually painting Minifees but definitely can handle Popovy size as well. :love

    25. Where do you live?
I love watching faceup / makeover videos but wouldn´t dare doing a faceup yet.
People who do are doing magic, in my opinion.

    27. @Erasmia - I adore that rhinestone wig you made. It looks sort of like a 1920's flapper girl. :aheartbea<3:aheartbea

      • x 2
    28. Thank you! :blush:D
I´ll do some more in the future with different colours and crystals. I tried making a yarn wig, but didn´t finish the monstrosity. Not my cup of tea yet.

    29. @Erasmia - I'm in the US, and I'm sure there's more artists to explore, though it's definitely gotten harder to browse for them, since searching Instagram got so useless.

I agree with Dollibird about the rhinestone wig having that flapper vibe. it's so nicely fit to her, and picks up that beautiful gold accent around her eyes.

here's some doll tax of my Landy. I'm still getting her look together, I am looking for a white, grey or maybe that smoky pink colour for her wig, she probably won't keep this dark one.

    30. Thank you! <3
And your Landy is gorgeous! A white or silver wig would be perfect for her and she would make a great ice queen for a winter shooting. <3

The most popular faceup artist from the US, for what I´ve read, is Cocokiddy. She does a good job with Popovy dolls.
      I also like preciouslilyaesthetics work.

      • x 1
    31. thank you about Landy. she is the grey skin, I think it will show a bit more with the lighter wig too.

I had thought Cocokiddyy was based in China? I would love to have a slot with Mimi, but I'm just not feeling great about sending the owls out so far right now. thanks for the info for the second artist too. they are so beautiful even blank, I might just try a very gentle layer, and let their natural beauty carry it.

    32. I am so happy to see people's Popovy dolls around! They look stunning. <3 I was lucky enough to be able to buy the only Popovy Sisters BJD in my country this year. She makes me so happy! These dolls pose amazingly, it cannot be compared to any other dolls that I have ever handled. I don't think I will ever buy another Popovy doll since my one and only is enough for me, but I would definitely like to get her more clothes in the future. She barely has any now...

    34. When I woke up today I grabbed my doll even before going to the bathroom.
I changed her clothes and did another photoshoot with her. Photography/Videoediting is also one of my passions.
I´m planning to place her on my dads´ huge dragon figurine for a video sequence where she is "flying" the fire spitting dragon over a landscape at moonlit night. I already have the music. This is going to be a huge and time consuming process with greenscreen/AI and so on...Anyway. Here´s some more pictures:

    37. Thank you!
I can´t wait to have her in my arms. :love:D

    38. Waiting for my Little owl limited edition Flora lilac! It's going to take some time , because I'm sending her off for a total custom makeover.

      Super exited!

    39. Do you send her to Anastasia?

    40. Yes! I have a slot with her at the start of June. Do you have any experience with her?

    41. My Peewit is at her hands right now. :D
I have ordered her last August directly from the Sisters and they sent her off to Anastasia at the end of Decembre.
Can´t wait to see her final look and have her in my hands. <3

    42. That's amazing! Can't wait to see your beauty! Did you have a specific look in mind for her? Or are you letting her do whatever she wants.

    43. I gave her some references and the rest is for her creative flow.
For example I don´t want freckles, moles or red lipstick on her.
I want glossy lipstick and winged eyeliner inspired by the faceups the Sisters themselves did.

    44. Yes. I love the red lipstick. But a lot of them have it, and it ties you to one certain look. You can't really experiment too much with bright red lips when it comes to hair and fashion.

    45. Exactly. This is why I wanted her with rather natural lips.
I already have different outfits and wigs for her.

    46. Can't wait to see her! Are you from Germany? I was born and raised in The Netherlands ( but now live overseas) so technically we are neighbors ;)

    47. Yes, I am from Germany. Hi neighbour!
How come you live overseas and is it good living there?

I count the days that my doll will finally come in, for sure! :dance
