Still sanding and such. Cleaning up the sculpt a bit more. I will spray this copy with primer then make my final molds. other than that this version is pretty much done. It can stand on its own and has pretty good balance. Limited poseability due to its single joints but everything works. The joints are a bit slippery though because the resin is way too slick so it will definitely need sueding (SP?) ... ... ... lol i'm happy with it and it is cute to me but somehow i'm not satisfied with it yet so i'm experimenting. Im mostly stuck on its arms and i'm trying to make the feet a bit more rounded at the top. I also don't like the way its strung right now. The holes in its shoulders and its feet really bother me so i'm trying things to make sure that's the best i can do before i move on. Maybe it wouldn't bother me so much if i could make the holes smaller but i don't have a smaller drill so... Found some small wooden balls that fit the sculpt so i think i will either sculpt some new feet or find a way to modify the feet i have to fit this sculpt. I'll loose a little height lol but i think i can live with that. I'm still hesitant to spay this with primer cause i'm afraid it might end up looking too plastic-y and that i might loose some details but meah we'll see. i need a sanding sponge.
Been working on lots different prototypes just haven't been able to upload em to Photobucket or take proper pictures Anyways these are two tinies i recently started. They need to be sanded and one of em needs a face but so far so good. This is a body sculpt i made for the bunny doll i sculpted a while a go. I liked the body e.t.c but i didn't like that it wasn't poseable so i had to try for a better body sculpt. lost a little height, its now a little over 4 inches. I'm probably going to loose more height but i like where this is going so far. Pretty good balance so far while standing. LOL sitting is another story. Comparison between the old bunny body sculpt and the new body Then there's this little guy. Haven't quite decided what he is yet though. Maybe a piglet? Not sure just yet. I think i might break the body up for a 2 piece torso :d one piece torso's are cute but i don't think i can pull em off in a cute way. Anyways that's pretty much it. I have another sculpt i'm working on but i haven't gone far enough to share much of it yet. lol this is just a random thing i did while playing with the one part torso.
thanks aneemal. So i've been putting off this sculpt for a while now. Every time i went to my work desk i'd look at my sketch lol then start working on a tiny instead. Anyways finally did something to it.This is just a rough sculpt. I haven't sanded any bits or fit the joints to the sockets properly. Right now i'm just clumping clay together in a attempt to get the entire body completed before i go back to refining parts. Tried something new with the lower torso this time :XD i used the coil building techique (as in ceramics) to create it so that way i could sculpt it hollow. Ugh i wish i had a better shot but hopefully this'll do. Main Pro: I could get an even thickness in terms of the torso walls. Main Con: The pieces had to be blended really well on the inside and out because bits that weren't properly blended can easily break off during carving. luckily i didnt have this issue. I'm very disappointed with its face and neck it looks nothing like the original sketch i did . I love the way i drew the face and it really bothers me that i cant replicate the features in 3D. I'm going to try making the eyes and maybe the nose a bit smaller. Also i think i need to make the neck a bit smaller too. I like it but at the moment its way too thick and manly for the design i had in mind. In the original design i was going to go ahead and sculpt a single thigh joint but when i started working on the thighs i split it up because i suddenly felt that i would be happier if she had more pose-ability in the thighs... not so sure anymore though. All in all those are the only problems i have with this sculpt.
I really love seeing dolls in this stage!! Thank you for sharing these photos. Her body shape corresponds very well to the drawing and I personally like it very much. I'd agree with you that the neck is very thick though, in comparison to her other proportions. I'm going to have to look up the coil technique because I use polymer clay too and working out what to use as a core is a real pain.
OMG YES!!! I use aluminum foil and the issues are ridiculous. The biggest being the fact that the wall thicknesses end up being too thin in some areas. Not that i cant fix but it just gets annoying after a while. Didn't use the slab but the coil base i made was very helpful. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2dsOf2uj3Zw
Slowly building the thigh base parts. They work so i'll start tweaking things a bit. Decided to go with the original design after giving it some thought maybe after successfully sculpting this doll i'll find a way to split the thighs up Worked on the arms and neck as well. So far so good. I still have a few parts to sculpt before i can start sanding and smoothing bits.
Haven't started sanding, probably wont anytime soon, but this is looking pretty good to me so far. Started sculpting the thighs, built up the lower arms, and shortened the upper arms so now she looks less alien like. Something about her head bothers me. Its too big or something I'm not going to touch it until i have sculpted all the parts though. To kinda get the whole picture. Right now all i have left to sculpt are the lower legs/shins, feet and ears. Sculpted the hands already but i still need to fit them to the arms.
SO its been a while since i posted in this thread. Anyway started working with cold porcelain. It can be a pain to work with and sometimes i get so mad i can barely take it but the results OMG. Phetus phase 1 & 3 by Poochbot, on Flickr Pros; -Its affordable and i know everything that goes into it cause i make it myself. (ingredients: elmers school glue, olive oil, lemon or lime juice and cornstarch). I don't know if its toxic because i'm not entirely sure whats in elmers glue but so far i'm loving this. - It cures really hard. Almost like resin so i haven't had any issues with test stringing and such. - It cures smooth so depending on how you work you might not need to sand. - Large range of colors. Cons; -Its very soft and can be hard to work with -it can be sticky at times -it shrinks
