PNW BJD Expo 2022

Apr 26, 2022

    1. Hi! I noticed that there was no thread for this year's event. I'm not the event runner but I was wondering if anyone was planning to attend PNW BJD Expo this year on May 20-22. They've moved to Portland Oregon, which is a few hours out from where it used to be, but the new venue looks pretty nice.

    2. Oof, I just found out it's in Portland rather than in/near Seattle. :/ Really disappointed since I could do it in a day trip from Canada previously and now it's a bit too far to be able to and the people I would usually travel with are busy that weekend. I hope they move back to the previous venue but I may be able to go to Resin Rose in August, that's a fun one too.

    3. It has definitely moved to Portland and is now more Pullip focused. I find it greatly disappointing

    4. Yeah, I was one of the weird ones who was closer to the expo when it was on the other side of the sound, but it's definitely further away either way, haha. My understanding is that it's changed hands from a primarily antique doll/teddy bear collector to a primarily Blythe collector, and the focus hasn't changed, but it's just a matter of who signs up to vend or host panels.

    5. Hi everyone! I'm finally here (I'm the new owner of the expo). Thanks Glace for posting while I was trying to get my account sorted. I'll answer some of the issues brought up...

      1. I acquired the event from Dorothy over a year ago. The event was moved to Oregon because that is where I'm located and it isn't feasible for me to run it in Seattle. However, it is near the Portland International airport so for those flying should provide similar access. Also Oregon has no sales tax, which is a great benefit. These are all just bonuses but the main reason is to keep it going I need it closer to me.

      2. The scope of the event hasn't changed and I would love to keep it bjd focused...that said it is super expensive to run these events and without participation from the community it isn't sustainable. I come from Blythe so would love to expand there as well as maybe other genres like OB11, Pullip, Fashion, etc. It's very hard post-Covid to know what the new normal will be with running events but at this point interest and attendance is down for everyone. The best thing we can all do is get out and support these events so we can keep them alive!

I hope you all will give it a chance if you are skeptical. My background is in community development and my vision for the event is one where friends look forward to seeing each other each year to enjoy fellowship, entertainment, learning, and shopping. Some of my best friends in real life I met through doll conventions and I value that gift so much I would love to help facilitate it for others.

    6. Sounds great and look forward to hearing more!

    7. I realize it might be too soon, but is there any news you can share about 2023?

    8. Will Dust of Dolls be attending in 2023?
