Aesthetics Plum - Shelling an OC

Jul 15, 2022

    1. I've been considering trying to shell one of my characters for a hot minute now, and when AceofDoll's Joker head popped up for preorders I immediately knew which character I had to do! So I ordered a Joker head and started plotting out a doll for Plum.

He's a newer character for me but I love him to bits and I think it would be a lot of fun to have a tangible version of him sitting on the shelf. His outfit though... It's gonna be a lot of work :sweat

First and foremost though, finding him a body! Luckily, Denver Doll had the perfect Dollzone body in stock, so I wouldn't have to wait forever! Now I can work on making his outfit while I'm waiting on his head. (This wasn't technically my first doll order, but it's the first one to arrive in my hands, so that's pretty exciting too!)

His body arrived a couple days ago, but I've been too busy to get around to opening it 'til now!

It might be a little paler than his head will be, but it's going to be basically completely covered in clothes so I'm not too worried.

I ordered him a basic robe too, so he isn't just sitting around naked waiting for me to get around to finish things. Knowing me it might be a few months before I really even start.

I've got a basic idea of what I need to get done though, so my next steps will be figuring out patterns and gathering materials!

Edit: added credit for the Plum artwork, done by my partner!

    2. It sounds exciting! Your concept character looks really cute :3

    3. Shelling a beloved character is SO rewarding! I love the character design here and I can't wait to see how it all comes together!

    4. This looks like an amazing project!
I absolutly love shelling my characters as dolls. The whole progress and the result make it so rewarding. I even shelled a chararcter as 2 dolls (an msd and a tiny one) bc i just rly like doing it lol.

Your character looks absolutly amazing btw!
      Did you draw that aswel?

    5. Thank you! I'm excited :D

Thank you! I'm definitely looking forward to having a tiny Plum to bring places.

Having two different sizes of the same character sounds like a lot of fun actually! And an interesting challenge as far as scaling goes.

Thanks! No, I didn't, my partner designed him and drew that ref for me (I forgot to credit them, oops! Thanks for the reminder lol).

    6. Unfortunately, the Joker head's casting fell through, so I ordered a Dream Valley Vine head from Denver Doll instead. It doesn't quite have the same Plum vibes that Joker did, but I do like his little smirk, and I think it will be fun to try a faceup once it gets a little less humid here!

After a couple (sad) attempts at sewing, I gave in and commissioned Capsuledoll on etsy to make Plum's outfit, and it came out stunning! If anyone's looking for custom outfits, I highly recommend them! I asked them to use solid fabrics so I could dye in the ombres myself, and of course add all of Plum's flashy glitter.

      Here's Plum's outfit pre-dyed:

And then after a quick dye and several layers of glitter (and a few large pom poms too):

I'm rather pleased with the final result, and he's starting to look like Plum! Now I just need to find him some shoes and wait for summer when I can get around to working on some faceups and it's not too humid for Mr Super Clear to work...
