Please help me improve my faceup skills

Feb 16, 2019

    1. Hello, I would like to ask some advice on what I can do to improve my skills at faceups, this is the second one I've done and as I am not going to change this one (at least not for quite a while) I would like tips for improving.

The sculpt is Doll Love Sweet Cecelia

And here's a video of me turning it: Starry Eyed Dreamer
And a link to the first one I did if you're curious: https://scontent.ffcm1-1.fna.fbcdn....=e51954f9957a3564661abb89f4a9835b&oe=5D282F7E

      Materials I've used are:
-Rustoleum clear matte paint (which I know gets a bit much as the layers pile on)
      -Chalk pastels for shading/eyeshadow/lip color
-Modge Podge glossy for on top of eyeshadow, mouth, and the tip of her nose
-White/black acrylic paint for teeth and eyeliner
-watercolor pencils for eyebrows, crease in eye

I know I have trouble with eyelashes (hence why I haven't put any in haha)
      Thank you :)

    2. I'd recommend staying away from Rust-Oleum in general as a sealant. It ends up too shiny, kind of giving the doll a sweaty look, and doesn't usually make for a good surface for pastels to adhere to.

The eyebrow shape and placement are very good!

    3. Ohh thank you, yeah I want to get a better one but haven't found the time yet. Thank you <3

    4. Your color palette is amazing!!! The only thing I would recommend is using something thinner to draw with for the eyeliner. It looks wobbly and uneven, but it's shape is very good! :thumbup

    5. I'm not sure if this helps, but I recommend maybe doing a few more layers and instead using less color for each layer. Go slow and blend a lot ! That also gives you more chances to fix mistakes and you will have more control.

    6. Thank you, I tried to not use a lot of color (the shading was super pigmented so that's why that looks a bit wonk, while the blue/pink/yellow needed multiple layers and I kept feeling it wasn't going anywhere haha)

Okay thank you, I shall get a smaller brush :) (Side note, her eyeliner is probably still better than what I can do on myself)
