Playing with dolls: what did you do with your doll today that made you happy? <3

Nov 12, 2017

    1. I was able to give a faceup to a doll I was thinking of selling. Gave her a wig and eyes and noooow. Looking like she's staying :XD:

    2. @jennikey that is good to read, I have a girl like this as well and told myself I will give her a chance to stay with a new face-up too, mainly because she poses so well for me. Still not sure how it will go in the end because she doesn’t fit firmly yet into either of my 2 groups of other dolls similarly sized - but I’m playing with her and photographing her today to start sketching out her style.

    3. @mimimontoya
I totally get that! And I hope refreshing her style and doing things with her sparks that joy to keep her

And on the topic of what I did with my dolls that made me happy is making an outfit for her!

    4. Fixed her wig so it'll actually stay on her head :kitty2

    5. Swapped wigs, changed outfits, took pictures. Always makes me happy. :whee:

    7. I made some wigs finally :3 I'm not good at it but it's loads better then my first wig

    8. I put one doll's arm around another doll's waist... and have a second couple in the house now. They've been in this pose for a while and I don't feel like disturbing them. :chibi

I also made some jewellery for another doll. I'm not satisfied with the design (looked nice while I was making it but not so nice when on the doll), so I'll be designing and making something different. But I'm happy I actually finished crafting something for my crew -- something I haven't been able to succeed in a while. Feels good to make and finish stuff, I need to keep at it!

    9. I like sticking a finger in their little resin hands - it feels like we're holding hands.
Yes, I am one of those doll collectors.

    10. @MaleficentMrsofEvil Me too. I'm completely not a doll kisser / hugger, but I love letting them hold my fingers. :chibi 1/3 doll hands are perfect size for that!

    11. I never dress my dolls for holidays but I was inspired by ai to order an outfit in Christmas colors a few weeks ago. Today I decided to try it on one of my dolls and it made me happy, something to distract me from my delayed preorders. Maybe I can focus on a little holiday set up early enough to get one done this year.

    12. Verdi's with me at work today. The job is grueling, but taking a little break to pose her with a couple of the little props I have at my desk really cheers me up when I need it!

    13. Yesterday I sat my Yo-SD next to my cat and he really snuggled up to her. It made me so happy! :kitty2:aheartbea

    14. I finished a faceup for the first time in months and got my new Reisner all finished today! He picked out a wig, stole a body, named himself, outfit set (for now..)...I'm so happy! Feeling lots of good resin vibes yesterday and today. :)

    15. Sat her on my lap while I watched an old movie, sewed some tights onto her legs. Nice activity for a Sunday afternoon :daisy

    16. A body I ordered for a character I’m making came in and I was able to at last attach her floating head to something lol.
I also was able to immediately dress her in some underwear I bought for her, and after standing her up to face me I felt super happy. Just looking at her coming together made me wanna start sewing her some more clothes. I’m eager to take my girl out on the town!

    18. Yesterday, I undressed a bunch of my MSD girls and compared their abilities to sit and kneel. Today, I redressed them in different outfits and wigs. :love
      It was awesome.

    19. I love reading everyone's little wins.

Yesterday I took Dmytro and finally restrung him (well?), he is now an unstoppably rigid, pose-holding brick. I've been wanting to love that body (resinsoul bigger/70) but between the slightly imperfect proportions for me and the chaotic flop I've been unsure... Well now he functions! I am considering modifying the shoulders still and then I think he'd be even better. It's a good feeling thinking he's going to work out perfectly because he's such a bargain basement much needed comfort.
Afterwards I rooted around in his wardrobe and put him in a new outfit and just kind of admired him. :whee:

    20. Yesterday I made new shoes for Petronella and now she is keeping me company while I am crocheting a new shawl for her.

    21. Restyled some of my girls who hadn't had an outfit change for a bit (I love little clothes :kitty2)

    22. I changed Vallant and Oshidori's poses a little bit. Still don't want to disturb them. :kitty2

I recently received 1/3 wings for my dolls... got some time today to try them on Justinian and explore action poses. These wings are tough to handle, but it was a fun challenge and I'm quite pleased with so far.

Playing with dolls is so much fun~

    23. I spent several hours last night trying new outfits from Mandarake on my Dearmine girl. It's been a while since I just sat down and tried a bunch of outfits on, I missed it. The outfits were a bit of a gamble, fit-wise, but luckily all of them fit!
I'm so glad she has new clothes, I got rid of her entire wardrobe a while back and regretted it immensely.

    24. Yesterday I re-strung a doll that was strung up way too tight
And I also did a faceup on her!
Today I'm thinking of wiping that faceup and trying again with a different sealant applying technique

    25. A bunch of shoes arrived today for the gang and Nuoyi got to try them all :D

    26. Today I redressed Suha! Her faceup got dinged up and her eyelashes were coming loose, so she'd been in PJs to say "sorry, not in a state for going out!" I touched up the faceup over the weekend and today, she's dressed again. Minus shoes because I can't find a pair that looks right with the outfit. Ah well.

    27. Yesterday I successfully glued in eyelashes on a doll, without any of the usual drama or teeth-gnashing. I felt so proud of myself, lol.

    28. I've had a photo theme buzzing in my brain for a while... finally got some time today to pull out the big doll couch, pose two dolls on it, and take pics. Also took nice pics of the others. Cheered me right up!

I also made Oshidori some bracelets from jewellery wire and beads. I'm happy with how this design turned out.

    29. I changed eyes for the first time! It was a thrilling experience to say the least.

    30. I got 2 dolls in today!
Changed out the eyes in one
And got to dress up the other

    31. Some days it's so little but it makes me happy. Three of them have been sitting text to the tv in my bedroom and looking at them while watching tv I feel like it's more of a watch-party :XD:
Today I just held Marina for a little bit looking at her with approval. Moving her hair around because this wig is very soft and pliable. Just thinking my thoughts about her and her story and her as the object and that her outfit is very stylish. :kitty2 I guess just small daydreams and gratitude.

    32. I got the most perfect face-up mock-up for my Impldoll Imara, and it's exactly what I was thinking for her.

    33. I have 3 peeps hanging out on my desk while I work today. I love fiddling around with their hands and adjusting their poses for procrastination :3

    34. I got a new wig for my Iplehouse Elysia today, and when I put it on it looked perfect for her. I love it when i find a doll the right wig for them.

    35. Finally got to try out and make a wig out of viscose for a doll!

    36. I washed a human-hair wig I grabbed from the thrift store *mumble mumble* years ago and plopped it on Iris's head. I think it looks amazing!

    37. Today has been a rather negative day, but I got to unwind with Mina after dinner... There's something therapeutic about brushing doll hair.

    38. Yesterday I did my first photo shoot with one of my girls (the Smart Doll, since I'm this close to putting my SartoriaJ MSD girl fully together, but she's missing a top still, oops!). Super fun, and I can totally understand why so many people love posing and doing photo stories in this hobby. It was really fun, even without a plan, but I'm sure I'll develop some as I get more used to doing it.

    39. Got all of my dolls out before I have to pack them for my move. Please excuse crappy late afternoon flash photo.

    40. Actually took one out of a box. He had no eyes, and it was just to check some dyed fiber against his skintone for a potential wig project (fail btw, colour was all wrong), but it did feel good holding a doll who hasn’t seen the light of day in a good six months!

    41. Today I finished shooting my big photoshoot theme, at last. Photos look splendid so far. (In time too - soon I'll have guests coming to stay at my place, so I can't leave my dolls everywhere anymore.)

Also started repainting Oshidori's faceup, now that I have her proper wigs on hand and sorted out her colour scheme. Today was all pastel blushing work, and it already looks much much better than her first faceup. A promising start - I hope I do the painting steps equally as well.

    42. Now that I've finished my thesis I had time to work on Curio's wig! The front part needs to be trimmed a little, and she's far from complete, but I'm super happy with how it came out! :fangirl:

    43. Soraya doesn't leave her shelf much. But while cleaning up today I have her my smudging feather to hold onto. It is absolutely imperative that the feather never touch the ground, and I know she's up to the task of keeping it safe.
I just got new shelves though, so Soraya will be getting a cozy new spot.

    44. I finally blushed the nekomimi I bought last year and now I have a couple of catboys :kitty1
Also gave Cheby some black nail polish (so I can make fun of him even more)

    45. I put a wig on Asa that I didn't think would really fit colour, cut or size wise but it looks incredible and I am obsessed.

    46. Packing up part of the crew today for a volunteer doll exhibition at a library tomorrow.

    47. This was actually a couple of days ago but was the most recent thing I did with my girls. Some clothes I pre-ordered from Melody C. arrived on Monday (which was my birthday - perfect timing!) and I spent some time just enjoying the process of dressing three of my girls. They do need socks and shoes still but I couldn't wait to take a picture of them anyway.

    48. I tried to stand poor Mina on a backdrop that was just too uneven. Before I put her somewhere solid I brought a hand to her brow and had a chuckle at her fainting backwards (so very ladylike). I caught her of course. Salts! Bring the salts!

    49. I cleaned up my office so I can do some more sewing for them as well as ordered some items for them this week!

    50. I successfully restrung an IOS Class 70 doll! He plunks now!
And the hybrid head I got him has great colour match!
Now he sits in my bedroom with his own pet fox. I'm in love! :D:D:D

    51. Got a new wig in the mail today for Akihito (Volks Williams) and it is so amazing to have a wig in his actual size (9-10), instead of a stretched to within an inch of it's life 8-9 barely covering his giant head. And beyond that, it looks great too!!! It's more curly than the sale photos showed which is perfect. If this wig hadn't worked out, I was going to open a thread begging for help finding a purple/red curly wig for him. Big victory today! :cheer

    52. I spent the last couple days getting my dolls dressed for a wedding.

My sister is getting married pretty soon. There will be a family party and photos at my place before the wedding ceremony. My dolls aren't invited to the ceremony, but she asked me to put them on display for the family party, and made it very very clear: make sure they're properly dressed for the occasion.

I didn't expect this from her - she's completely not a doll person, and she found them freaky when I rejoined the hobby a few years ago. But I kept talking about them and shared my photoshoots (and I think my website/socials too), and it seems that she's come around to them over time. So it was really touching that she'd ask me to have my dolls at the party.

Now properly dressed for the occasion. I'm running out of time but they'll go on their big doll couch tomorrow.

    53. @aihre I think this is really cool coming from your sister, considering she's not a doll person. And they all look super sharp :3nodding: the fit on the suits is amazing!

    54. That is so cute @aihre :sorry I hope everyone has a great party!

I had put it off for so long but I finally wired Michi's limbs and repositioned one of the hands with heat today - her body is such a nightmare to handle sometimes but just having her knees not buckle and hands fit through sleeves has increased my enjoyment of playing with her a lot!

    55. A doll I ordered in October finally arrived so I got to try all the things I ordered for her!

    56. I am going back to University and decided to sell most of my dolls to raise extra money for living expenses. I have been feeling very down in the dumps about it. Today though I decided to browse legend doll and look for outfits for the three dolls I am keeping. I ordered one of my dolls some clothes and shoes.

I am full of giddy doll energy. I can't wait to dress her up.

    57. I just restrung Teofils hands. Restringing jointed hands isn't my favourite thing to do, but now his fingers poses wonderfully well and that does make me happy.

    58. I attempted to actually sew something for the first time with the help of the dress form, no plans or prep, just trying to stitch something. I'm surprised that it turned out... okay? :ablink: I want to wash it to get rid of any pencil marks left and then I'll try it on my doll. I've got enough fabric for a skirt too! I love this fabric's pattern.

    59. Downloaded a new camera app onto my phone, which dramatically improved the quality of my photos! (Who knew that could be a software issue??) So I did a mini photoshoot with Charlie :whee:

    60. I had multiple problematic “dollemmas” with my new Kaniboom Muppet Rabbit Bianca. She was everything I wanted in an adorable anime bunny sculpt, but although I was able to give her a faceup I loved, she just seemed all wrong.:doh And the Luts BabyDelf body which I felt was perfect for her measurement-wise fell apart on me…quite literally! (A torso joint had been improperly glued at the company and just fell into two pieces.) I had already blushed her head to match that body beneath the faceup…so what was I to do? I put her away for a few days out of sight while my brain worked on these issues. And it worked! She had just jumped character on me is all, so I rethought her story, wardrobe, and display entirely. Then I went to work on that body, removed the new-fangled stringing apparatus, drilled holes inside and restrung it old-school style. Problems solved! Now I love her.<3
