Playing with dolls: what did you do with your doll today that made you happy? <3

Nov 12, 2017

    1. Carrying his head around in my pocket! Since he is a floating head, it’s really easy to take him around with me. He’s the newest arrival, so I like to spend one on one quality time together. I waited long enough during the preorder, now it’s together time! (BTW, the head is a Seed Arts Wol named Blue)

    2. Oh my god first doll buying ahhhhhh <3 <3 <3 I only own one myself, so I know them feels <3 <3
Do you do anything when you study/work from home, like drinking tea/coffee/etc? Because One of the best things I've found is getting your doll a little teacup/wineglass/mug.. .whatever kind of cup your using to drink with.. and refilling his drink everytime you fill yours, is the greatest thing in the world <3 It makes their sitting there next to you so much more lifelike~~ <3

.... I... I have no clue how to feel about that. "Little friendo decapitated head inside my pocket, were bonding~~" XD

But all teasing aside, that's actually sweet. You want to bond with him far before even getting a body. that's adorable <3

    3. More fun stuff!

I took Soren out for my friend's 22nd birthday yesterday! We went to a steakhouse and then the mall, but it was still fun having him with me.

    4. That sounds great! <3 Did your friend bring their doll? Do you have any pics from the outing? :)

    5. I'm the only one with a doll, but I wanted to show Soren to my friend's boyfriend, so Soren came with. I wish I did! The weather was kind of gross, so I didn't have time to take pics. I'm definitely considering taking some of the boys outside for some late-Autumn photos tomorrow though.

    6. Thank you!! She was my grail for ten years, I'm SO happy to finally have her!

    7. Yep, pretty much. Thank you. ^^ Hopefully it'll turn out as cute as it sounds, I think I may end up trying to come up with my own pattern for it so it'll be interesting to see if I can bring the idea in my head into reality.

Oh dear, that sounds really frustrating. A sock (even a knee high one) is a tight squeeze for Caspar, but luckily even ResinSoul's 60cm dolls seem to run on the slim side.
If the sock you have is just not big enough around, depending on the pattern on it maybe you could cut out two pieces of it, then cut the pieces open so they lay completely flat and seam up the sides to make it wider.

Well, it wasn't today, but I'm still smiling over it a little bit -- I made Saskia a new wig! This one is probably my best yet, I love how the self-striping yarn gave her some fun colored highlights. The furniture-hard mod podge also seemed to work a little better for putting wefts on than the glue I was using. Now I'm looking to order Hyacinth a new wig, one that fits a little better since she sat in my lap on a 2.5-hour drive with her poor head all bare because her usual wig squeezed off ten minutes in. I think I went a size too small originally.

    9. Thank you! ^^ Yea I love this guy to bits, hes my first male doll and actually now that I think of it, first SD. Completely forgot that the Resinsoul Mei I also have is an MSD derp xD. Yes I was dying of happiness, especially since I was so worried I wouldn't get to see him. His box got delayed in post and stopped for three days, kept on getting the same message in tracking, then stopped getting any message at all for another two days. It made me panic and think he had got lost in post :c Until I got home from an extremely stressful day at work to find a giant box on my bed xD So I love him a ton, happy he made it home to meet his tiny elf sister :) *gets dagger eyes from said elf for calling her tiny*. I just feel bad I haven't picked a name for him yet! D: I must sound like a first time mother with her first born over-worrying over little things with him XD Example when that happened, I first freaked out and checked for damages *rolls eyes at self* he fell back softly and on a blanket for pete's sake me xD Also that sounds glorious haha! You should of took a snap of the blooper for fond laughs later. Part of me wants to restring this guy, but the other part can't stop laughing at how much every time I set him down somewhere close by, he gains a 'go one without me, I must lay here and stare blankly at the ceiling like I am rethinking my worst moments' In a dramatic way xD I guess when loosely strung, this guy's drama queen switch gets thrown xD I can just imagine him thinking "how dare you mock my graceful form! I must be graceful at all times restring me this instant!"

    10. Tonight I stayed up all night with my baby. <3 I realized I don't know how to make wigs at all, and I attempted making a hat for 2 hours and completely failed it, but it was still fun.

Him and I watched some Steven universe, ate ice cream in our matching cups (seriously, blessed find, a fancy stemed glass cup set at Goodwill of his and my size matching??? I didn't know that was even a THING?) and just in general getting sleepy with him....

Am I the only one that finds the greatest moment, getting tired by your dolls side? Like... Looking at Aenean's soft smiling face when I'm tired, he is the most beautiful thing in the world, and all I want to do is be next to him for an eternity <3

    11. I was got stressed out and sad earlier so I held my doll Katya (Volks Shiratori), and I just kinda posed her arms and played with her hair a lot :sweatand it made me feel better TBH!

    12. oops! I replied to this but accidentally clicked the wrong message to quote ^^' so the replies in chat just under the wrong quote sorry ;w;

    13. Lately I've been watching tv with my dolls snuggled in my lap. It makes me feel peaceful because they have this warm presence to them

    14. Sorry to hear that, but at least you had an excuse to take em out~ <3
I can't believe you can still take fall pictures! We are snowing and freezing cold where I live! lol

Ten years, oh wow. Was she a special edition you had to wait for, or just costly? Being a young child, i had to wait 6 years to save up for my $1000 beauty haha

Sadly, iplehouse makes their dolls with annoyingly muscled bodies. I would be lucky if four socks weren't a tight squeeze! lol

It must be super fun/exciting to be able to hand create new outfits for your little loved ones! Especially for the season!

Oh my god, that must have been a terrible fright! I'm glad it turned out so well in the end <3 <3 Sounds like it was the perfect day too <3 I can't image what joy it must have been to have him <3

I sadly didn't get that experience. I correctly called that I would end up with a heartbreaking feeling of excitement and displeaser when opening my boy. ^^; There were a lot of negatives going into it that I knew would bring it down.. I hate iplehouse over sized body with pure disgust.. he was 10 cm bigger than the doll size I liked.. not to mention those factors mean i literally cant/never will be able to find him shoes, clothing, or anything else in his size..and a major factor, I waited so long to have him, that that childhood dream was long since past its prime, the girl that wanted him has changed so much that "she" never got him /i/ did.

But either way, not only was he the first doll I ever fell for... but... the only one that could never leave my mind. His smile was something I could NEVER leave go of. <3 <3

Your dolls sound like they have such life <3 I tried to write you a reply last nigh because I was so excited about your post, but I fell alseep half way through. I'm already heavily attached to your dolls, and they aren't even mine XD
If you've ever played undertale, I have to say, your doll reminds me highly of mettaton. But I just LOVE the loosely strung drama queen <3 <3 I guess you could say he's......... at the end of his rope? ;P

    15. I was really happy to get him, his size surprised me but I love the taller dolls so it worked out xD Awww I'm sorry to hear! D: maybe you could take a chance at sewing him clothes? I love sewing things so that's what I'd try in that situation x3 I'm sure there's gotta be some place, hmmm...etsy maybe? I know some nice artists on there do customs ^^ I have that same feeling with Resinsoul Yi/Yang. Those 2 are the first 2 I got the feeling I can't shake that I need them, they'd go perfect with the OCS I have in mind. Specially with their elf female Su. Dollmore Nayuta just kinda popped in the picture suddenly so I'm trying to figure out how to fit him in xD Also omg yes, Mettaton is my favorite. I love that little drama queen, I completely had no clue I was accidently turning him into a more laid back, sulky Mettaton xD

    16. Wow I've never actually seen an iplehouse in person, but they must be enormous if that's the case.
Yes, it's nice. Though the problem I usually have is finding the time to sit down and do stuff, I tend to buy the materials then they sit around for a while before I actually make use of them.

    17. I was freaking out because of how much crap I have to do, so I sat down and played dolls for a little while. I'm still freaking out, but at least Hyacinth is sitting next to my books and keeping my from going totally off the rails. :sweat

    18. I made Kit a simple body chain ...thing. He's asked for a style change and it was a quick start. He's so spoiled.

    19. today, i redid a faceup for my first doll! it is hugely satisfying to see the improvements that i have made since joining the hobby

    20. Changed Ethan's shoes, then got him to stand on the 'clothing' briefcase. Twenty minutes and counting now... He does well for an almost 70cm doll with no stand.

But, generally, just looking at him is enough. Or holding him. I'm way too attached to this resin guy...

    21. Not today, but a few days ago I spent about an hour re-arranging our dolls so my partner's Dollmore girl could have a turn on the doll stand (we only have one so the others have to sit on a makeshift bench) and show off her new clothes. It was a fun surprise for when he got home from work. :)

    22. Yesterday I took the time to suede my boy's arms and legs and now he can finally hold his arms up! I was so pleased I took an impromptu photo shoot. I think his sitting might have actually gotten worse though, I'll have to see. I'll probably wire my tiny today so she stops being so kicky.

    23. I finally sewed a little shawl for my tiny and she looks so sweet! I just keep looking at her. ♡

    24. I wiped and redid the faceup for one of my fellers, but because of work, I was only able to work on the faceup on weekends, so it took literal weeks. And holy moly, I agonized over it the whole time. But it's finally finished and just today I took a few pics in better lighting. For the most part, it's looking good, so that's a relief. But I ordered eyelashes for the dude and they haven't arrived yet, so as far as I'm concerned, the faceup ain't fully complete until he gets them eyelashes. :sweat

    25. Momonita got a new shirt with tiny seed bead buttons! It looks comfy and goes with the trousers I threw together to check their fit, although it could also work for her skirts. I love that she fits into my coat pockets, I don't want to put her down. :3

    26. Yesterday Annix and Pike came with me to work for an impromptu photoshoot. Today Mozzery-Mo is at work to capitalize on all the natural (but indirect) light. And, I fully admit I brought Mo to the theatre to see SW:TLJ with me. No one else had time, so like any reasonable adult would, I brought my toys instead.

    27. I’m working on my DC Fiona’s brushed yarn wig. Her head is so small, and with her ears attached to her head, wig finding has been tough. Today I’m ready to start applying the wefts, and fingers crossed, the wig is successful!

    28. Put a new Monique wig on one of my girls. The color and cut is perfect for her. I finally feel like she's looking more like what I had envisioned. It's funny how a wig, a pair of eyes, or clothing make such a difference in a doll's vibe.

      • x 1
    29. My little one Jinx got a whole diorama of her bedroom today including lights, a bed with sheets pillows and a comforter, a mirror, toys on shelves (squinkies are the perfect size for tiny delfs!). And a ton of wall art too (I have a laminator and I used stickers/tiny playing cards)

    30. I'm waiting for a SD head to arrive next week (it was shipped out yesterday)^^
So this morning I made myself a big cup of tea and then I sat down with my box of spare eyes & wigs and went through all my eyes and wigs and put aside then ones that should fit in size for the SD head that's on it's way. LOVE making plans for incoming dolls^^

    31. I started sewing a dress for one of my Pipos Bahas, named Honeysuckle. It's been too long since she has had anything new made for her. When I have the time to sew for one of my dolls, it makes me very happy.

    32. Spent a few hours trying to crochet her a hat. I think my yarn is too big. But it's good practice - takes me about 11 minutes to do a whole row of of double crochet.

    33. Today I rearranged where all my dolls were just to find out my Sabik will be home soon and now I need to make more room :doh
I also found time to sued my Serendipty Sharmin and my 5Star Doll Ray. It was a great day to finally see my Sharmin stand on her skinny little legs:)

    34. Today, well yesterday to be more precise, I changed Fern's (Little Fee Ante) outfit & wig & arranged her things on her dresser which she just got. Then I took some pics of her & her "stuff" plus a portrait of Sinea, a Garden of Dolls Elf Nabiya.

[IMG]Portrait of Sinea by tamlin baby, on Flickr

    35. I did something that made me quite proud. Even if I'm probably not the first to get my doll to do it.

Ethan knelt for a solid 5 minutes. He would've gone longer, had I not moved him. No pictures, but I did get a video that got posted to my Instagram (ryc_bjd - shameless plug). Ethan being a Resinsoul Bigger Boy body, with no wiring or sueding. Just a touch of restringing, but pretty much as he was out of the bag. He stands like a rock, too, mind you... so, maybe, I shouldn't be that surprised that he kneels like a champ.

    36. I found a set of fat quarters at Tuesday Morning that are perfect for my ongoing project to clothe Essie! (actually I found several sets, but could only justify getting one for now.)

    37. My mom and I went on a shopping spree on ebay for yo-sd stuff for my new boy. Mom's buying him a couple of welcome home presents and I'm buying him and his siblings some stuff too. (I'm getting him and Avalon matching eyes, I'm getting a couple of blythe kimonos for Avery and Vala too and Avery is getting new boots.) I bought his shoes too.

    38. I found the perfect wig for my Migidoll boy. I've been having such a hard time finding one that suited what I wanted-- I was prepared to try and make one, but I just happened upon this one for a very good price. I hope it fits-- it's coming from Alice's Collections, so they can alter it to fit his head, but now I'm worried I'll get it and it won't fit!

I've also finally gotten both of their body measurements as good as I'm going to get them, I think. Time to make proper underwear, until I can figure out more substantial outfits. I had a lot of fun playing with them-- my Luts boy is very kicky and tight, but also incredibly cute and soft; I'm willing to forgive that. XD I'll have to stretch him out to keep his arms from flinging themselves up.

    39. I got a secondhand hat in the mail and immediately tried it on all my doll heads. It finally landed on my "hipster elf" Modoll Tomei head, and I think it's perfect for him. It's so much fun to try on new dolly clothes. :)

Imgur: The magic of the Internet

I can't wait to get him assembled and on his body -- I'm waiting on a stringing tool and some accessories. (I bought a range of eyes, wigs, and clothes recently, hoping that there will be a few items that are a good fit among them.) Still haven't settled on a name yet...

    40. Ive been making accessories for my dollies since yesterday. Making some bracelets and necklaces for them then will prolly start sewing again soon :)

    41. As soon as my mom leaves the house I'll be doing a photoshoot, then we're gonna watch the new IT :whee:

    42. I fixed his new desk! It wasn’t very stable so I put in screws and made more decorations and he looks so nice w it <3

    43. Finally finished a hat and temp vest for my little Myca, now to make him some pants and temp sandals and start planning a photo shoot. :cheer

    44. A new wig arrived in the mail, for one of my most neglected dolls. I've had her for three years or so, and haven't done much with her, but she looks adorable in her new hair! I can't wait to give her a new faceup and find some nice clothes for her.

    45. I haven't done it yet, since I'm still watching videos to prepare, but later today I'm gonna try to restring and suede his joints. I also bought proper clothes for him a few days ago, and I can't wait for those to arrive.

    46. A couple days ago I arrived back home from a month away in Japan and Korea with two new dolls ~ So the past couple of days has been dressing them and "introducing" them to the rest of my collection ^^
I also bought sooooo many items of doll clothing while away so it's also been the ultimate dress up time for my dolls ~~~

    47. Honestly I’m just having a really bad depression day and my birthdays on Sunday and I just realized I’m not where I wanted to be in life. ... anyway just hugging my sweet girl helped. SD sized is lovely for hugging.

Bad pic but her ear magnets are nott in yet. I <3 her

    49. I just got my granado Uriel, so almost everyday, I pose him differently. It always makes me happy. :)

    50. I finally cleaned my IH Lee's eyes and then did a super tiny photoshoot while I had some precious natural lighting. Thinking about tightening up his strings a bit too. Maybe I'll do that tomorrow though.

    51. I just had my girl sitting on the bed while I crocheted. I really just love spending time with my lovely babies.

    52. But, do you all actually PLAY with your dolls? Not posing for pictures or making something. Just....play? This is the only thing I hide from my family. Because I am a grandma. Don't want to be thought senile. And see, I had no dolls as a kid, and it just makes me happy to have them.

      • x 2
    53. I haven't "played" with dolls the way I did as a kid in a long time, but that is because I have many other roleplaying outlets now. DnD, stories, chats. Photostories are probably the closest I get to the old style play nowadays. I used to have a really good time with my Barbies and my sisters, but I doubt they'd be interested now. ;)

    54. For me playing with them can be a lot of things. It can be dressing them, taking pictures of them, making something for them, and writing stories for them.

One of my dolls Lara has become the family mascot on game night. When we play board games and a fourth person is required she sits in as the fourth person, we either all take turns 'helping Lara' or we do her stuff blindly and laugh at the results. She is very small so she can sit with her chair and table on out table and join in on the fun.

The past few days I have had my doll Shay keeping me company while I write his summer special story that will be photographed later. It's nice having him next to me because I can look over at him and imagine his input on things as a write his portion of the story. It has been helping me to round out the character more by keeping him with me and playing with him.

I like elaborate stories. I used to make them for my play line dolls when I was a child. I had had this entire story and I would just wake up the next day where I left off, kind of like a soap opera. I used to think I was crazy because when I brought my dolls over to my friends houses all they wanted to do with their dolls was play dress up.

Now that I have an elaborate story for my BJD's that is my way of playing with them. I think creativity is a good thing and I like making a long drama series for them that can continue for who knows how long. I enjoy writing the story on paper, photographing the story and adding the words to the photos, it is something I do for myself and it's fun.

    55. Oh this is such a heartwarming topic. I will do my part in resurrecting it as well.;)
Well how about yesterday... I've definitely been spending very little time with my dolls, but yesterday I did some doll related housekeeping. I condensed the shelf a bit which meant taking a few down and returning them to boxes together. I handled three girls I often feel are superfluous and felt such a gentle happiness holding them and admiring them. Changed Choa into a different wig and was very smitten. I felt positively reminding myself that not everything has to be the most important thing and telling myself they will be part of my life in a different time and we'll be happy to spend more time together.
I also took old Dimitri down to try to get some decent portraits. He's past yellow into grievously yellow now (a soft orange really) and so I enjoyed black and white edits of the photos more. But there is something about him and several of the oldest dolls where I still lose myself in spending a little time with them. It was very wonderful to reconnect.

    56. I love this topic too!

I live by myself and have space in my home, so my dolls are always on display. And I like posing them in realistic poses, as if they're "going about their lives" in my house. Depending on what photoshoots I'm doing, they can end up all over my place.

A few weeks back I had Vallant and the anpiel standing against the wall in my corridor (between photoshoot takes), Gael in a doll stand in his outfit (another photoshoot), and Syr and Justinian sitting on a shelf reading a book (not doing anything with them so they chill). I don't do too much with my tiny tiny, Swallowtail, so she's sitting on a little seat next to my PC to be my perpetual computer buddy.

Today... Oshidori is keeping me company at my desk - the newest doll and I'm still enamoured with her and want to have her around while I WFH. :love Syr and Justinian are posed standing on a shelf - I finished taking some pics of them, so I've left them there and they get to hold each other a bit longer. :chibi The others are chilling on another shelf. It's autumn in my country and I feel like changing them all out of kimono into modern clothes... so I'll probably do that later today and see if I can put winter outfits together for them all.

    57. My Soom Ace girl came in yesterday and I had so much fun creating her look :XD: Today I played with her a bit more and experimented with her posing and took some pics~ So excited to edit them tonight.

    58. Stands, stands, stands! I stood up most of my 55-70cm dolls yesterday in their 2 story groups with sturdy stands and it’s like night and day. I am returning to the hobby after a(nother) hiatus and just decided to re-start by unpacking and assessing my bjd crew in this size range by standing them all together now that I have room to do it. Despite my initial hesitation about the expense, I pulled the trigger on a stand order instead of shopping for a new doll. The instant shift in my perspective about my collection and their inter-related characters as I stood each doll up, posed them and added them to their group was remarkable. I spent the whole afternoon with them and the time flew by - no wigs or eyes got sorted, no clothes washed! Playing with them in stands together is so much more fun and expressive - I feel like it will help me bring to life (and photograph) the inner dialogues I have always had with and about them in a much more expressive way! They have escaped the shelf-sit that was blocking my own creative vision. This may have been the best overall doll hobby investment I’ve ever made, it changes the way I can interact with my entire bjd collection!

    59. Absolutely this!:XD: Yesterday I worked hard on devising a Lolita-esque blouse pattern for my SD PeaksWoods Briana, Second-hand Rose, and made some progress sewing three blouses for her. And occasionally I would take a break by playing Pokemon with the character I’m developing for a new doll I have incoming. Then when things finally slowed down, I began some quiet TV time watching Midsomer Murders with my hubby and my Realfee Toki, Brambles. The show inspired her character and I wouldn’t dream of traipsing around the English countryside without her!

I’m married, but this is exactly what I do as well, and my hubby loves it too. It’s like living in a fantasy world, walking through an enchanted village or forest, and stopping now and then to visit with friends along the way. In this way, I can freely interact with my dolls daily as I go about the ordinary business of my life.:)

    60. I'm not one very active doll owner in the sense that I don't take many pictures of them or anything, but one thing I really like to do is grab my MSD girl and pose her sitting over by my side like she was looking at me or my laptop screen while I write stories about her or window-shop for her. If I doubt about one of her lines or I'm not sure if she'll look good in a piece of clothing, I only have to look at her and I'll know right away.
