Plaster Under Pressure?

Aug 7, 2014

    1. So, I've been looking into casting resin on my own and I found this tutorial on using a combination of silicone and plaster to mold large objects in resin. I'd love to do this with doll parts and use almost half the silicone. (I did the math. It took me all day to do the research and crunch the numbers.)

I wasn't able to find anything about using this combination in a pressure pot, though. I was only able to find information on pressure casting hot metal into plaster. I think that if plaster can withstand hot metal + pressure, it could withstand the ~60 psi for pressure casting, but I'm still a bit nervous.

Does anyone have any experience with pressure casting resin in silicone molds with a plaster mother mold? Did it work out okay?

    2. I've made plaster mother molds but I can't remember if I pressure cast anything with them. I can't imagine it being a problem though. I plan on using a similar technique to the one you posted sometime within the next month so I will be sure to report back.

    3. That would be awesome! If I decide to cast, I hope to be casting within the next month, too, so maybe we'll be able to compare notes.
