Hi everyone! :XD So, I'm nowhere near a plaster mold making stage for a doll, but I'm planning for the future and would like to avoid mistakes as best I can. I've searched the forums and can't seem to find anything about making simple rigid molds around sockets. Forgive me if I'm missing something obvious here or if I'm asking an impossible question, but I cant seem to figure it out for myself. For example, many lower leg sculpts will have a socket for the knee and a socket for the foot, with the balls themselves being on the knee and foot respectively. How then would you make a simple 2 piece plaster mold of this doll part, is it even possible? I understand it's not an issue with silicone molds but I have my heart set on eventually casting in porcelain From what I've seen the seams are usually running ether side of the length of the leg, with a pour hole at the knee socket, but how would you demold, would there not be undercuts into the sockets? Is there a way without venturing into a more complex mold with seperate pieces slotting into the sockets? :dead I really don't fancy that on a tiny scale doll. I'd really appreciate any advice (pictures would be excellent too) I'm used to using rubber and silicone mold materials, so this is a bit of a learning curve.
I have some plaster mold making posts up at my weblog. I have no idea if any of the pictures will help, but you may want to take a look. I have tried to document everything I have done on my BJD-WIP so far. http://atelierpoupee.blogspot.com/2011/01/in-molding-studio-again.html http://atelierpoupee.blogspot.com/2011/01/rough-shell-mold-for-lower-leg.html http://atelierpoupee.blogspot.com/2010/12/rough-shell-mold-of-lower-leg-part-2.html Those were found by searching the Label "plaster." http://atelierpoupee.blogspot.com/search/label/plaster Also try searching the Label "mold". I try to label my posts, but some are labeled better than others. http://atelierpoupee.blogspot.com/2010/10/rough-shell-mold-lower-torso.html There's usually more than one page of search items, so always scroll down and click on Older Posts until the search results stop.
