I want to print a 1/2 scale doll body, but I'm worried the printer isn't going to be able to print a full upper/lower torso in one go due to size limitations of the printer bed. Has anyone tried printing a torso in sections and then somehow gluing it together using a filament/PLA printer? If so - how did you glue the sections together? What glue did you use? Or did you sculpt in tabs/dowels of some kind? How was the stability? My resin printer is laughably small, so it's gotta be PLA.
I haven't tried to print a large doll, but in terms of glueing, most people seem to recommend superglue for PLA. I don't find it glues particuarly well, but maybe I need different superglue. People do glue large models together, though. Engineering a mechanism that locks the parts together would be the safest option, or simply designing the torso parts to be no larger than the print area in the first place.
Made me think of that chick who makes large warhammer prints. Maybe you could find something out in her posts? Or "videos"?
My experience with 3D prints is limited, so take this with a grain of salt, but... If it was me, I'd do a combination of pegs (or ledges, or whatever, just some shaping that makes positioning impossible to get wrong) and cyanoacrylate of some kind. I've heard good stuff about Loctite 4062 for this type of plastic. In case you're not experienced with this type of glue, keep in mind that humidity plays a big part in how fast it cures, for better or worse. Obviously: use gloves, read the SDS, work in a well ventilated area etc.
