Pipos' Majestic Line 70cm boys, human and anthro

May 26, 2014

    1. I thought I would create a new thread for the discussion of Pipos' new 70cm Majestic line, due for release on June 12th, 2014.

You can find the link to Pipos' release info HERE

This initial release will see the appearance of 3 new boys, Dr. Jekyll – midnight CROW (70cm Man), Dr. Jekyll - noon CROW (70cm Man), & Mr. Hyde - midnight blue RAVEN (70cm Cat).

So far Pipos' promo pics had concentrated on their new human boy, Dr Jekyll, such as can bee seen in the news post linked above. However, a preview pic of Mr. Hyde was posted on Twitter HERE

I'd have to say, Mr Hyde has definitely peaked my interest! With his large, more mature cat anthro head sculpt, I am particularly impressed and looking forward to seeing more!

    2. Thanks for making this thread, with this size range I think Pipos will see some definite interest in this anthro-sculpt. I am actually liking the Human sculpts as well for that matter, and the bodies, while I find it funny that they try to make a "muscle" body distinct from another body just about as equally covered in muscle, are actually very beautiful from what I can tell. I can't wait to see the beast parts, and the make up, and really just everything!

    3. I'm not interested in anthro dolls, but I really like the human sculpt and am glad to see Pipos doing more of them!

    4. I'm kinda excited about this..Pipos making a 70cm doll is awesome. The body is rather muscular and I'm not sure how I feel about it..but I'm waiting for more pictures. I can't wait to see the beast parts..I would love to have a giant anthro kitty.

    5. Eeek... so many companies making large+ sized dolls! I guess 70cm isn't even that big any more, compared to how big other companies are getting, but that's quite a jump for Pipos.

It'll be interesting to see how the anthro version looks on that body!

To me, the big problem with human bodies and animal heads is the neck. Human necks just look a bit too skinny and hairless with an animal head on top. It doesn't look quite as odd on the smaller dolls, and some companies have managed to do a good job with it, but it's still a bit of a problem unless the doll looks very fantasy--or the body is meant only to go with an animal head.

I've got a Soom Ender with the jackal head and without the headdress/wig, the head can look pretty odd stuck on an all human body and neck. But the jackal head is very narrow, so it almost works. Same for my Soom Beast with the antelope head... the head is long and narrow and the MegaGem body has a super-thick neck, so it sort of works. --But the wig really helps hide a lot of that. Not sure how that will go with a cat head if there's no wig or headdress....

    6. I have to admit I am really liking the look of the Human boys here too, loving Mr Jekyll's headsculpt almost as much as Mr Hyde. Definitely looking forward to seeing more of both Mr Jekyll versions & Mr Hyde with his company face-up, even if he's already impressive blank.

      April
, I know what you men about the neck, especially with my experience with Pipos' M.Pi cats. It works fine to have an anthro head on a smaller more humanoid body, such as for the R.Pi & U.Pi dolls, but the bigger the doll the more noticeable it becomes. It was the one of the things I think bothered me a but about Hopen more-so than Minuet, for some reason being more noticeable on a male body, I think. However, somehow being more suitably muscular seems to help balance out the look here a bit from what I can see so far.

Really looking forward to getting a better look at that body. I am hoping that for such a big boy Pipos have gone to the trouble of giving the majestic line double jointed knees and not just double jointed elbows this time. That was my main flaw I could pick out on the M.Pi / PO13 body - it could really use those extra knee joints! It would really help stop the excessive un-necessary knee-buckling issue than tends to happen before sueding and create more of a continuity in pose-ability between the arms and legs that is otherwise lacking in the M.Pi / PO13 body at the moment.

    7. Pipos displayed and sold Big boy at Dollfete 2014 event in Bangkok, Thailand - 30 March 2014
I ask directly at Pipos's booth they said it's 65cm boy. but after News update it's 70cm boy.
I try ask friends who also joined Dollfete, Pipos told everyone at Dollfete it's 65cm boy.
May be something wrong with information or re-sculpt body to 70cm? if they re-sculpt what's up with bodies they early sold at Dollfete?

here are pics I snap at Dollfete 2014
they displayed 3 human sculpts, 1 anthro sculpt(Mr. Hyde), I only have 2 human sculpts's close-up pics and don't know which sculpt's name so I called with no. and displayed 1 body type (may be B type - 2 torso)

See? full bodies displayed at event look like 65cm boy more than 70cm boy in person. :pout:

    8. Thanks so much hyokito for the photos! I was really surprised by this new size too. The human sculpts look nice. I'm not sure how I feel about the anthro yet. I was expecting more of a beast head, like a lion or wolf. Something more masculine to accommodate the body.

    9. Oh wow, thanks for posting up those pics, hyokito. Pipos posted a new pic of their Majestic boy body on Twitter HERE today and it definitely looks like the same body to me. I wonder if they made a mistake on the size one way or the other? Very interesting, either way and I do like the style of musculature they've gone for. From what I can tell, it looks like double-jointed knees there on the pics you posted, but then the PO13 / M.Pi body looks that way too, but sadly they're not. I still have my fingers crossed for double-jointed knees here, though!

    10. I've been looking quite a lot at Pipos website today as all the Pictures of the new dolls showed up. I was surprised though. I expected that the limited Raven doll would be sold out really fast... but he is still available... Wonder how long until all are sold.

    11. Same here, JAS101. As much as I love Mr Hyde in that lovely GS (his company face-up is just gorgeous) I really can't afford him right now. With a limited edition of just 20, I wonder how much longer he'll be around for. Also, why a non limited version in NS only again? Really not a fan of Pipos' larger anthros in NS. After my experience with M.Pi Hopen Gift Edition I would much prefer anything other than NS for larger Pipos anthros.

    12. Hehe, I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds the normal skin version cats sort of off-putting. ^.^"
      I don't know what it is…but...
That said, I ordered the gray skin version of Mr. Hyde!!!! :sumomo:
I was also surprised that he wasn't sold out already (though not complaining!). I wonder if people are waiting on him since he's such a large jump in size from their normal selection?
Personally, I've been waiting for Pipos to make a cat man in this size ever since the R.Pi's came out! ::rubs hands together::

    13. I ordered one last night as well :) And I just noticed Pipos is having a event linked to the new dolls. As I understand it shipping will be free?! If that'sthe case it's really, really fantastic!

    14. Oh! That is nice!
Thank you for mentioning it. Hehe, I had to go look just now. I was thinking, "aw, I paid for shipping already" but it sounds like they will refund it. :thumbup

    15. You're welcome :) I did ask about the event and in the case of a layaway you just don't pay for the shipping. So I figure that if you pay the whole amount at once you will get a refund for the shipping. I think this event is great because the shipping is no small amount and I feel it is very kind of Pipos to make that offer :kitty2.

The only thing I do wish had been different about Raven is that I would have liked a tail option and the option to buy the same style of beast hands that are available for the other cats. I like the hands he have because they fit the theme very nicely, but personally I would have loved to also be able to buy the very round, cute cat hands for him :)

    16. Oww, they remain on official site.

Yeah!:dance, exactly height is 65cm, (why announce it's 70cm size first?)
but as 65cm size, I'm interesting in body or may be Midnight Crow head too.:D
can't wait to see owner OPB!!

    17. Yes, it is very sweet of them to do free shipping. ^__^
They emailed me already about it.

I'm quite excited because I have a beautiful resin cat tail that I've been saving from Iplehouse's Luna Tamer release years ago. I never knew what to do with it, but I just really liked it. Now it will be perfect for my Mr. Hyde! :chocoheart

    18. The mysterious gray Mr. Hyde grabbed my heart the moment I saw him, but I just couldn't afford to have him shipped home. I still went to see him the day after he was released, just to admire the pictures, and added him to my cart, just to see how many of him were left... That's when I noticed that the shipping fees had disappeared!

I'm now eagerly waiting for him! :dance

      ***

The company pictures seem absolutely wonderful to me, but on the picture hyokito posted, the cat head really looks tiny for the body... I'm afraid april and JenKat may be right about the anthro proportions, but I'm crossing my fingers...

    19. Which one of the body types did you who ordered one choose? I picked the B type for mine

    20. I'm glad that more of these guys are getting ordered. It will be fun to see them around the forums. ^_^

I purchased him on the A body, JAS101. I liked the extra joint and slightly less muscles. Hehe.

In regards to the promo photos vs. the event photos posted above…I would say it is because Pipos photographed Mr. Hyde from above in their shots, so this changes the perspective of the head to body ratio. I think I will make him a ruffled collar. I like those anyway, but it will help to fill that space between his shoulders and his head. ^_~

    21. JAS101: I picked the A type, for the same reasons as Lady Ravenswood. ^_^

It's true that the promo shots all show a similar angle... I like the idea of the ruffled collar! I actually thought about giving mine a high collar shirt and a cravat, Victorian style. I'm not too worried anyway as I usually prefer proportions with smaller heads. I also count on the big beast hands to make the body a little less human.

    22. Same here! When I checked a few hours ago there were only two left of the limited Raven. It will be lots of fun to see when they start showing up :) .

It's actually the first time for me getting a doll with makeup. I did ask about ordering mine blank since I prefer doing the make up on my own. It turned out it wasn't possible to order him without makeup (Pipos were super nice about it and I fully respect their company policy about the limited dolls) but fortunately I really like the look he has in the photos so I decided to buy him.

That's very cool Lady Ravenswood and Lochness! It will be great to see how they look with the different bodies. I like both types but picked the B type for the opposite reasons since I like less joints and more muscles :sweat. I think it is great of Pipos to let us choose body type even on such a limited version of the doll.

Right now I'm planning what style of clothes he is going to have :). I have a few ideas but I need to do som research and see what I can find.

    23. That is interesting to know about the faceup. All of my dolls have a faceup by me at this point…so I imagine some time in the future Mr. Hyde will too. I do like the default though, so I didn't really worry too much over there being no option to purchase him blank. Hehe.

I know exactly the outfit I would like to get for him…but all my "budget" went to the doll, so I'll just have to wait and hope that I can get it down the road. ::crosses fingers::

    24. There are 2 BJDs in my gang that I didn't paint: Naoka (Dollmore Judith) and Tok[sic], my Pipos Cheshire. I think it's thematic... His faceup is absolutely amazing, and looks a lot like Mr Hyde's. I did change it a bit, and Naoka's too, so it's very likely that Mr Hyde gets a few touch ups.

I also sent all my money to Pipos, so he'll have to wear what I own or what I can sew. It's ok, though: I've been looking for excuses to start sewing again! I love the black shirt he comes with anyway... (not quite sure how well it matches the gray suit pants, but we'll see!)

    25. And now there's only one more left! I didn't realize that until I saw your post, JAS, about there only being two left, and then ran back to check.
I got the B body because I like the unbroken view of the lower torso, and the extra veins in the arms and legs.
Yup, my kitty's likely gonna be wearing that default outfit for a while! XD I did finally get a sewing machine recently, and I'm beginning to learn it's language.

    26. Yay, more fellow Mr. Hyde owners. ^__^
Welcome, pull up a chair. There's cake. :bcake
      ::passes out cake to everyone::

    27. For some reason, I think my Mr. Cat will really enjoy cake... especially the type with light whipped cream on top! ^_^

    28. Hehe, I can just imagine it stuck to the end of his whiskers! :kitty2

    29. ....and paws... subsequently tracked throughout the house! ;)

    30. Hahaha! Since I picture him as quite the finicky aristocrat, I can only imagine the lengths to which he would go to eat properly... only to fail every time to hide the evidence of his secret passion for desserts. =^_^=

    31. That's…such a cute idea!! Here. Have more cake! :pcake
      Hehe. ^_~

Sooo…I ended up buying the outfits I had my eye on for my Mr. Cat after all. Ooops. He's going to look so dapper once he arrives.
      ::comforts crying wallet::

    32. Ooooo! You'll have to share pictures! That really is a nice outfit set. I keep going back and eyeing it all.

Lochness, you'll have to be sure and give him a handkerchief to put in his pocket to help "hide" the telltale evidence... ~_^

    33. Lady Ravenswood: Which outfit did you get, if you don't mind me asking?

Aernath: The handkerchief is a great idea!

I can't wait to see how different all the cats will look once they arrive...

    34. It was this one. ^__^
Actually I got him two outfits…but the other one, it was the last one, so it doesn't show up anymore.

I'm so excited for him to arrive! He's going to have to try on all the outfits. :dance

    35. Oh~ niiiice! He's really gonna look majestic in that outfit. ^_^

I can't wait to try all sorts of outfits on my cat too... I unfortunately don't own much in his size, but he might give a completely new look to old pieces, or inspire me to use some pieces of fabric that are just waiting for inspiration. So far, I picture him as really noble and a little stiff, but his attitude might be completely different in person... He could be an ever-wandering gentleman with a folkloric Eastern European look or a sly alley cat who tries to appear more successful than he really is... I'm excited just thinking about the possibilities! XD

    36. Thank you! Haha, all my male dolls seem to end up in suits or Victorian-esque uniforms with gold buttons. ^_~
I love to sew for my dolls…but I'm terrible when it comes to men's clothing, so I'm happy enough to buy them a couple changes of something nice. I have two other outfits in this size. One I managed to make myself, and the other is what my other doll of this size wears allllll the time so…I decided it would be best not to steal it.

I think I'm going to name my cat "Janus"…at least that's the plan for the moment.
What are people thinking on names for their cats? ^_^

    37. Ah! I thought you were eyeing the Pipos outfits! :doh I like that band uniform too. It's a very nice look!

Hmmm... you know, I haven't given thought to a name yet. I usually wait until they arrive before trying that, though sometimes they tell me ahead of time.
I just got in Soom's Crow and named him Djak, so I could go with Djill.... but the Pipos cat man is very masculine, so I'm sure he would not be amused to be a tomcat named Djill. ;)

    38. I'm really not sure how my Mr. Cat will be named either... I guess I'll know only when I meet him, as it'll depend a whole lot on who he turns out to be. If he's the fussy nobleman I'm expecting, I think he'll end up with a collection of first names and a nearly equally impressive list of surnames... only to end up with a short, quirky nickname. XD

    39. Mine doesn't have a name yet either. I'm having a few ideas but nothing that's stuck yet.

I have a pretty clear idea for the style I want for him but have also promised myself to not go spending a lot of money on clothes before the layaway is done. So hopefully the items I have in mind will still be available later on :)

It will be great to see once everyone starts to get their dolls and the various styles for them :)

    40. Hehe, no worries. The Pipos outfit is quite nice too. ^__^

I take a long time to think of names, so I'm trying to get a head start! I'm not too dead set at this point, as maybe it won't fit once he arrives, but it does help me to think about character possibilities for him. But yes, I can't wait for them to start arriving either. :chocoheart

    41. My grey soom Pussinboots was easy to name - I just named him after our big grey cat Timothy, who goes by TIMMY!
But our other cat is all tiger stripey, so I'm going to have to actually work and come up with a name for Pipos grey cat. lol

    42. Ah! I'm so antsy for my cat-man-du. :kitty1
(Ha ha, that's what I default to calling him. Has anyone else here seen the animated film called "The Triplets of Belleville"? I always sing it in the tune of the theme song from that film.)
I know it's only been half the listed waiting time, but I can't help logging in and checking my order status. ^.^"

    43. Oh~ yes! With the movie song, it's purrrrfect! (sorry, I can't resist old cat puns...). Now I can't stop humming it... and I didn't even click the link yet! XD

I keep thinking about potential names for Mr. Cat... Here are the most promising ones, so far:

      - Louis-Albert - rather sober, but fitting for a somewhat archaic nobleman, I think. (If he wishes to sound like a French aristocrat. Or even an Earthling at all.)
      - Za'atar - Taken from the delicious Middle-Eastern herb mix.

The following ones are all inspired by my job at a liquor store:

      - de Meyrac - From the name of a French white wine
      - Vacqueyras - A wine appelation
      - Muscadelle / Cinsault / Sémillon / Mauzac / Muscardin / Amaral / Alvarinho / Diolinoir - All of them are types of grapes, but would work great imo as either first or last names.

I wish he could already be here to inspire me!

    44. Oh! The liquor names are fantastic. I'm quite partial to de Meyrac (as a name, don't know the wine). Hehe.

    45. Thank you~ I didn't think there were so many possibilities surrounding me at work until I was there, one day, waiting for customers and thinking about Mr. Cat. ^_^

    46. I love the idea of Liquor names! Also I wish that type B body had the extra joint but it's so beautiful I think I could live without it. I accidentally stumbled upon pipos via a dealer site because I didn't know they sold humans until now but they're so beautiful it's exciting!

    47. IpLemons: Thank you! ... and did you manage to resist the call of the human Pipos so far? :3

    48. No I havent :O The way my doll funds work is that I have a fund split between multiple things I want and this is added to the current split ;-;.... resistance is futile....that B body is too beautiful....I must hyrbid it ;_;.... it was the hips and the little hip veins that stole my heart

    49. Yesssssssssssss! :drool

    50. I really love the detail they put into the new doll body (though I can't tell how much is the paint job - which I'm not even sure you get buy)
and the face sculpt for the anthro is like a more mature Derek! I love it! ugh.. but 70cm is way too big for me XD;; I can't imagine having a doll that big, let alone the $700 it would cost… I hope maybe they will update their small anthro dolls to have this mature look as well

only thing… from the picture posted earlier, the head of the anthro doll looks way too small for the body. Like his head was shrunk. It looks fine in the official photos though.. be curious to see it in owner photos

    51. Yes! The body is lovely. It definitely fits nicely in that little hole I had for an SD17. ^_~

I imagine the head will look much like the photos from the event earlier in this thread. They seem to have made them based off of regular SD-head proportions. Which is to say that the head is larger than a regular SD-head, but not nearly so large as the heads of smaller anthros as compared to their bodies.

    52. Yeah, the event photo is what I was looking at. The human head size looks perfectly normal, it's just the anthro ones that look bizarre

    53. Hehe, I think it has to do with Pipos' tiny anthros and many, many tiny anthros having a very chibi aesthetic. Their heads are almost as wide as their shoulders, and are very big top to bottom as well. It makes them look very young and cute and that is what we are used to seeing in the BJD hobby when we see an animal-headed anthro (animal-headed anthros are quite hard to find in SD-sizes!). But Mr. Hyde has a more mature aesthetic, as you said (I love it as well. ^_^), so I can see why they decided to go for a smaller head. I wonder if what really throws the eye is that they did make it bigger than a standard SD head side to side, but it is still in the same proportions top to bottom (not counting the ears)?

I'm ok with it because I keep telling my brain that those are the proportions I should expect of him. Hehe, I don't know if that quite makes sense? I guess just that I don't expect him to be chibi. ^_~

    54. I had never heard of this company as am still very much a newbie - but will definately look into the larger size guys as they look quite wonderful

    55. I got a shipping notice!!! I got a shipping notice!!!

      :sumomo::sumomo::sumomo:

    56. oh wow, really?? man, I was thinking of breaking down and ordering one, but I want to see other people's dolls!

    57. I really wasn't expecting it yet! My jaw dropped when I saw the email. Hehe. Aw yeah, so excited!!
I'll be sure to post of photo of him in his dapper clothes too. ^___^

    58. Awesome! Congratulations! We'll definitely be looking forward to photos! ^_^
I figured it would be a few more weeks yet.

    59. Is he the anthro or the human?

    60. Mine is the gray version of the anthro. :kitty2

I figured I shouldn't even let myself really start to think about him being ready until mid-next month. Er…not that I really was doing that great of a job at not thinking about it…but you know… ^.^
