Photoshopping emotions on BJDs?

Oct 11, 2016

    1. I was wondering if anyone has ever changed the expression of their doll in photos? Like making them smile with a bit of photoshopping instead of redoing the whole face up or photoshopping the eyes so they are closed instead of open... things like that? If so, could you maybe post example photos? :)

I really want to do that with my dolls once I finally get them because different expressions would make me have more photoshoot ideas and also would make the dolls appear even more real (to me). I am just afraid it can look weird if I post pictures of the same doll but with different expressions and I have not seen anyone else do that before. Any opinions?

    2. I've seen it done before, usually to make less smiley dolls smile.
Saw a tutorial on YouTube once upon a time, but it's set to private now. Found a few before/after shots around on Flickr too. I think it'd be a lot of fun to try to adjust! Totally go for it!

    3. I second Kitkaze. I think that if you really want to do that with your doll, do it! The hobby is about creative expression, and it may inspire some people!

    4. I have used that method to give my dolls a slight smirk for a few times. Personally I don't think it weird - this hobby is all about creativity!

I am also like 60% sure that someone had made a tutorial on the method I use for giving them a smirk years ago, just can't find it anymore.

As for photoshopping eyes closed, propertyoftheuchiha comes to my mind who has done it in her photostories a few times and I am sure others have done it too. Basically at this point almost everything has been done already

    5. Oh I have thought of it before, something like changing their expression just a little bit if I ever go for a photo story. Unfortunately I'm too busy to do a proper photo shooting, so that still has to wait. But I don't see why not. The point is to have a unique photo of your unique babies, so we definitely can do anything.

    6. I have tried but it doesn't look too good. I add eye shine and effects sometimes EX: [IMG]

this is hard to achieve AND doesn't look too realistic. but I would go for it, see if it works! :)

    7. I have tried an app called FaceApp on iPhone.
Here's the results side by side.

    8. I like this idea.
Facial expressions make me really happy, that's also a big reason I love my Unoa faceplates so much.

    9. I would be really interested in seeing more people do this! I think it would be really fun to be able to "act" out different scenarios in your photography complete with accurate expressions and posing with a little digital magic help... ;)

    10. This is a really interesting idea!

I haven't done it myself, but I'd love to see some more examples of folks who have. Does anybody know if you could make slight expression changes in Lightroom, or would it require a software like Photoshop? I personally try and stick with Lightroom, as I like how user friendly it is.

    11. Lightroom is more suitable for "developing" raw images from cameras. I'd say for image manipulation, e.g. changing expressions, it would be best to use Photoshop.
