Would you photograph your pets with your dolls or is there too much risk for damage in your opinion? I'm thinking it might be nice to photograph my dolls with my younger snakes (young cornsnake would look like an adult corn in proportion to the doll) and there's less likelihood of damage with a snake than there would be with a larger animal like a dog
It would depend on the pet -- just like people, animals have different personalities and may or may not be inclined to use your doll as a chew toy. There are plenty of pics on DoA of dolls with pets. My dog doesn't bother my dolls, and I'm sure I could get a pic of her with a doll without damage.
I've seen tons of pictures of dolls with cats, so a snake would be a nice change! I would take pictures of my cat and doll, but he sheds like crazy and his fur is white.
When Ashanti arrives I'll take her picture with my 2 year old cornsnakes (they're small for their age, they're both half siblings (same daddy, different mammies) and their full siblings (I kept one baby from each female) from the year before were twice their size at 2 years) I'm hoping to breed baby boa constrictors this year so Ashanti will be photographed with them if any little ones arrive this year (I tried to breed from my adult boas last year and no little ones arrived despite the female looking and acting pregnant)
My collie has armor in progress so she can be my doll's noble steed. :P (Note: my collie is a semi-retired service dog- she's got a LOT more training than most pet dogs, is exceptionally calm, and very used to carrying a backpack.)
Photographingh with snakes should be easy, providing you have your doll's body supported so that he/she doesn't fall over with the changes in weight distribution as the snake moves. I would think that lying down or sitting supported would be best. As for other animals, it depends on the animal, as has been said. A patient cat or dog will put up with a lot. so you can place your dolls on or near them when they are still and relaxed. Whether they will stay still and relaxed with a big chunk of resin on then is another question. And many animals will want to get involved even if you don't want them to. My cats think that a photo set up has been created for their own entertainment and will bring down a backdrop quicker than you can say "David Bailey". I'm not quite sure of the benefits of photographing a BJD with a real-sized mammal, though, apart from the comedy effect. My friend Mich's VERY patient cat, Tally. She doesn't even mind action figures. My less-than-patient cat, Gimp. And then there is always taxidermy.
There is a thread in Picture Requests specifically for dolls photographed with pets. I recall there being at least ONE photo of a doll with a snake in that thread.
I think that unless your pet has a history of attacking things you put near it, the doll should be fine, esspecially with snakes. as I couldn't see a snake attempting to swollow a doll.
You should know your animals well before you do this. My cat Mushti was lying on the bed and I put one of my dolls next to her. She wanted to play and grabbed the hair of my doll and even gave a short bite in her hand. There is no damage, but I kinda misunderstood her.
I've been meaning to do a photoshoot with my girl and my python for a while now... also tried it with my pet chickens, but they weren't very cooperative.
I just gave it a go with my dog, she was too tuckered out to even pay attention XD but being a big dog, I'd have to be careful.
so lucky you can have your dolls near your pets. My cat doesn't even let me touch her or she will hurt me, and my dog would eat my doll.
I am lucky my dogs and cats take no notice of dolls so I would be happy to photograph a doll with them.
I would photograph them with any of my pets except for the sandboa, red tail boa and doxxy... the doxxy chews toys, the sand boa is a grump and though the red tail is really friendly he likes to grab dolls and drag them around with him for some reason haha
