Photoblock problem

Oct 20, 2013

    1. For those who are artists, I think some of you may understand what is artblock. Photoblock is pretty much the photography ver. of artblock.

Artblock is pretty much a disease which artists can't get any ideas on what to create.

Do any of you have this problem, and how would you solve a photoblock problem?

    2. I mainly solve this by... browsing forums, looking at movies, listening to songs, etc. Finding inspiration is key (duh) so I do anything I can to find it. But I also think that sometimes, you have to give yourself the right not to be inspired and to just wait for inspiration to come. I found out that sewing new outfits also helps a great lot. You make a new outfit for your doll, then want to photograph it and thus try to find the perfect way to shoot it. And then, you get the ideas!
Acquiring new props, elements of background can help too. ^_^

    3. Sorry I'm not very into photography, however artblock is a real mindset I can give tips for. I redraw a masterpiece I've done before, trying to remember and recapture the same feelings on paper -- which of course changes over time. I don't intend to polish up the remake, I look at it and try to see which way my heart is swaying -- depressive, happier, despondent, enthused? And rush to get this new feeling on paper, disregarding what exactly I'm drawing and just honing in on putting the feelings on paper. With perseverance this really works. a few 'wasted' pages and hours later, following the trails of intuition always leave me inspired to draw more. As for 'photoblock'...I know you will fight it off and have fun! ;3

    4. Why not set yourself a challenge to get the creative juices flowing? Try something different. If there is a lighting style you have always wanted to try but never got around to, give it a go. If there is someone's work you admire, be it photographer or painter, why not analyse their images and see if you can recreate it in a doll photograph? If you can get a couple of other people involved in the challenge, that might give you the impetus to keep going with it and really push it.

And concentrate on these being experimental pictures. They don't have to be works of art, you are just spending time exploring your medium and playing with it, and the photos are the results. That might minimise any performance anixety that might be holdiing you back.

      Good luck with it.
