Faceups Photo request - Old people

Aug 8, 2024

    1. Hello,

      I'm looking for pictures of face-ups that make the doll look like older people.

      I'm planning a granny doll but I'm not sure how to handle the wrinkles.

      Thanks in advance!

    2. I recommend maybe searching around using “elderly” as a keyword. Good luck!

    3. Thanks! Didn't think of that specific word

    4. I once looked for face ups that were elderly without much luck. I ended up using a very slightly darker shade of the face color, quite watered down, to make wrinkle lines around the eyes and mouth of my doll and it came out pretty well. It looked like shadows. I looked at photos of Dream High wrinkly house elves and the grandmother 'Phairby Flowers' fairy godmother for inspiration.

    5. Thanks for the tip! It's quite hard finding elderly looking BJDs.

      I'm happy that there are some sculpts out now for elderly dolls but sadly none fit my character.

      Dream High Studios house elves are stunning and it's a good idea to take them for inspiration.

    6. I haven't painted anyone to look like a granny, but I did paint a doll that was meant to be Snape from Harry Potter and gave him some wrinkles. I just used pastels for them. This is such an old faceup ;;

    7. You did a fantastic job blushing them in there. The gradient of shading makes it look like a ton of additive and subtractive modding had to happen to get those contours!

    8. I would recommend looking at photos of real elderly people, as well as people cosplaying elderly characters. You'll get a good idea of how the shadows and contours fall on the face, and could replicate that with pastels and watercolor pencils, or even paint for a severe look.

    9. Thank you so much! That's such a wonderful complement ;3; <3
