~ Photo "KB Converter" Software ~ Quality photos. Low KB!

Jun 18, 2008

    1. Okay, wow, I have no idea if this is where I should be posting this...:sweat
But it is technically photography and editing related.

I was wondering if anyone knows any good sites for (preferably free) KB converter software?
I've been looking all over for software to lower the KB of my extremely HUGE photos, due to using professional cameras. I had a program for a while, but of course, it was only a trial period. I may end up buying software, since it IS necessary for my actual job to have low KB versions of my photography. But I would like to try for a free version first, if possible... Yes, I'm cheap...but I'm also very poor at the moment.

I figured a lot of people on here might know something considering all the really nice avatars some members use...that are clear quality, yet have low KB.

      Sooo...Anyone?

    2. Ummm...there's the Windows XP PowerToy resizer..
I used to use it till I got my laptop with Vista [thats why it's called XP Powertoys :P].

I guess it's similar to what you're looking for?
I managed to resize an image to 35kb 1024x870[or something like that], which was originally 3500x2400 or something like that.
      :?

    3. I'll give it a go. :) Thank you for suggesting something~

Yeah, I'm just looking for something that will lower KB specifically. On average my photos are so large in file size they run in the MB or atleast 800KB or so, and the last program I had would lower them to about 15-20KB!

      Anymore suggestions, anyone?

    4. Oh just KB not pixels ? Sorry :sweat

Yeah, it turned my 3MB photo into like, 35kb, and a 1/3 of the pixel size too!

i don't know what else to suggest?

    5. Cameras usually come with some software. I'd be surprised if that software was unable to compress file sizes.

Any photo program should be able to do this and if you have are taking photos you probably find a lot of things in a program like those usefull. I don't have windows but when I did I used Paint shop pro. As far as I recall it was free up till version 4, and it should let you set the compression level when you save the file.
