Peak's Woods Fairies of Colors Discussion PART III

Feb 25, 2013

    1. Fabulous photos, guys! And for those of you who ordered the grey skin Tristan--when I saw her at the show, I nearly took her home, too, and I do not care for fantasy colored dolls! She was so amazingly gorgeous!

Not to sound too much like a fan girl, but I was dying to meet Pan and Kyung Min. I was bawling half the weekend, both from laughing so much and from being moved to tears! It was so much fun! I live in southern CA, so I wasn't planning to attend Dollism, but now... I think I may have to try to swing it, just t see these two again! So, so sweet. It's rare to meet people who love what they do, and I feel even better about my embarrassingly large doll collection! :)

Oh yes-- I'm working on a review and some photos with the two bodies (FoC) side by side, if that helps. I haven't ever had a problem finding shoes that fit, though. Everything from dollheart to angellstudio to basics from mint on card seem to fit just fine--the heel feet are convenient, but not necessary.

    2. Oooh, they are going to Dollism? That will be fantastic! I'm really looking forward to Dollism, particularly now that I'm having withdrawal pains from the KBJD show. I didn't get to really spend any time with them, but they looked like a lot of fun.

I've got an embarrassingly large collection that got bigger this past weekend! aaaggggh! ... strangely, I still don't own a PeaksWoods yet--but it's probably only a matter of time. I loved their fantastic display at the con. And the new boys are all adorable!

    3. Yes! They will both be there! I really want to go now, too. And ooh--were you at the KBJD show? Wait--are you April from San Diego? Were you in the BNB face-up class? I think I may have seen you, and I didn't make the connection! I'm Alison--with the weird colored hair--I was twins with Batchix this time. I was helping Megann, the pregnant mommy, with her booth. I'm so sorry I didn't say hello! Seriously, we need like our usernames on our ID tags or something! :)

Here's a quick photo of their girl display--look at all the Val Zeitler clothing they had!

      Untitled by alington, on Flickr

Oh yeah, and I learned that Skiya's name is actually pronounced "ski-ya," like "skiing," not "sky-ya," like I've been saying all these years. :)

    4. Lovelly pictures alington!
Gosh I wish I could attend a peakswoods gathering like that, all tho it would probably not be good for my mental health.
Seeing so much cute and wonderfull looking peakswoods dolls >.<
Tristan really looks well in Grey skin, certainly going to order a grey skin if they make it a Lottie or Lavin.

    5. So, here is what I heard about the boys. I'm not sure I'm allowed to blab, but I'm going to, so you all can budget! They will be a limited offering, for one month, coming soon. They are $590 base price, but they will be offered at 10% off to celebrate (plus your personal discount, if you have one from Peak's Woods). They are releasing four sculpts:

      • Dandy Bella the Moon (Bella's head with modifications)
      • Segi (he was originally designed to be a boy, just waiting for the body)
      • Cosmo (a new sculpt)
      • Dandy Tristan (no elf ears, and some additional mods as well)
The boys will be offered occasionally as event dolls, from what I understand, but won't be part of the general line, so be ready to order when they are released!

PW will carry clothing from Sadol (more formal) and Nine9 Style (casual), as well as shoes and wigs.

Segi will be offered as a boy or girl as a limited edition--and this set is super cute with freckles and red or blonde hair. I took photos at the convention, but my photos really came out crappy. They are in school uniforms and remind me a little of Ron Weasley from Harry Potter. They are being painted by their new face-up artist Dhar.

https://flic.kr/p/nrg2F2 is the link to my crappy photo.

Also, I believe the boys are going to have another new face-up artist. I think it will be Nornan, the artist who works at BNB Dolls, but I may be mistaken. I watched her do the face-up class at the KBJD show, and she does really amazing work. Oh yes, when I say she works there, I think she may actually be the owner.

And--Kyung Min Lee actually owns Peak's Woods. She (the sculptor) and her family runs the company, and they just moved offices. They have a new space, and they are doing really well, it sounds like. But it wouldn't hurt if their fans talked about the dolls just a little bit more. We tend to be a little bit quiet about our dolls, I think.

And oh--if you have ordered the special hands with nails for your dolls--just wait! They are so cool! I hope they offer more of them. :) They are amazing!

My friend Megann got the event Daisy (Yeru the Soul), and she was fantastic! Here's a quick picture:

And if you'd like to see more photos from the show, you can check out my photostream on Flickr.

    6. Your friend is so lucky to get her, I think she's beyond stunning. And I love the styling of the grey skin doll, like you I decided grey isn't for me, but she looks amazing. I only have a small YoSd size and a yellowed Sky head on a yellowed CH body but I do try and promote the FOFs as much as I can as they bodies are so good and the sculpts so beautiful, I have no idea why they aren't more popular.

    7. Thank you so much for the info alington :blush I can't wait to bring one of these boys home! Do you know if they'll sell the body separate but have the option of having a FOC head? (Kind of like the A.B. section of the PW website where you can order the A.B. with FOC head) I've wanted a boy Sky for sooo long (but after seeing the Segis' I may reconsider). Also, I'm super excited about the faceup artist from BNB. I wonder if she'll do custom faceups?

    8. Thanks for the event Daisy pic, alington! Is she suntan or NS?

    9. Haha I was saying it wrong too - It's so interesting to learn how things are supposed to be said. Now that I know how to say it right, I actually like it better.

    10. alington - that photo of all those PW dolls at the convention is killing me! Sob!!!

    11. So excited to finally see photos of the boys all done up and out in public. I real love Cosmo but I think I am going to hold out and see how Tristan looks since I really love the sculpt. Bella tempted me for a moment, but I think I just love her too much as a tan lady. T^T One day maybe they will make my wish come true and re-release her. I can only hope it's when I have the money! XD

She is tan! :D As were the little FoFs at the event. Man I wish I could have gone. That little tan Rabbit Goon and grey Tristan would have made me so broke though.

    12. Congrats to your friend for getting the Daisy One-Off! She is lovely. That white dress is just beautiful! :D

It's always good to talk up dolls. People really do start to pay more attention that way--and maybe check out a company they hadn't thought about before. Most doll companies are small and artist-owned... It's good to support the ones you like!

Really interesting news--I'm so glad you share it with us. :)

I was very impressed by Nornen of BNB Doll's faceups. I'd love to she what she does on a PW doll!

The Segi boy and girl are just wonderful! The freckled faceups were just amazing. I wonder if they got many pre-orders at the KBJD Show? I know that many people were interested. I liked them very much, myself (but didn't order... too many other dolls sucked my bank account dry!). I'll have to see what I can do once they go on sale...!

    13. I am so excited about the new PW boys! Thank you so much for sharing the pictures. I hope they will give us some information about the new boys soon.

I am soooooo excited for Dollism Plus US!!! The fact that Peak's Woods will be there (along with Dear Mine) has me looking forward to it in a huge way :fangirl:

    14. Wow! I like Segy as a boy! I always thought that the mold would have been nice turned into male, and indeed it is!

I wanna show you my Priscilla [WU Goldie], as I believe I've never shared her here before:

    15. Wow she's lovely! Is that a peakswood faceup? I really like her eyebrows.

    16. Just wanted to post a little pic of my Tristan who arrived today, can't wait to get her a face-up. I love her !

    17. That's a great look and nice portrait!

    18. OMG--Angelic_Pretty!! Your Priscilla! She is GORGEOUS! I love her! Shoot. Now I have to order another WU Goldie!! Actually, I've been wanting to add a Vamp Goldie, but I was thinking she was too much like the (oh maybe two) WU Goldie's I already have in my collection, and now, maybe I can justify a similar face-up stile. I just love her look! So 1960s inspired, I think! Just lovely. :) I mean, with vampire teeth... that would be a completely different doll. (Truthfully, I have one older suntan, and then one white skin with a Val Zeitler face-up on a DollChateau body. Two completely different dolls.) :)

BethL, you are going to LOVE meeting the PW girls in person. They are just so much fun! And they bring all this cool stuff! Just be prepared! They will have stuff you don't even know you need!

nelene, Yay! She even looks wonderful blank! Do you have plans for her face up? Eee--I should have ordered more pairs of those hands. I just love them!

You guys saw that the Segi twins are posted on PW's website? I have some pricing for you, too. I may not be 100% correct, but this is what they charged at the show:

Base price $550 for the Lolita girl body - plus 10% off this for the KBJD Show. I think they may extend this for the Boy Premier release, too.
Base price for the Dandy boy $590 (same price as the AB girl--they are about the same height)
face up (LE) $80 (normally, they aren't this pricey, of course, but it's by their new face-up artist, whom they pay a little more. She did Tristan, too.)
$159 for the outfit, which I think includes the shoes

They didn't charge for the wig, and they gave me my shopper discount as well, off my entire order. Hope this helps, and that this is accurate. I want to say that these will be offered for a month, possibly with the discount for a shorter time. The outfits may be limited. The outfits may be Sadol or Nine9Style, but I forgot to ask.

      https://www.flickr.com/photos/31024825@N07/sets/72157644136517967

I've labeled the nude doll shots as "moderate," per Flickr's rules--I've had my account flagged in the past from some of the Flickr followers who consider nude doll shots as unsafe--plus, if you're looking at work, your coworkers may not appreciate the boob shots. :) But none are particularly suggestive or anything!

    19. It still astounds me that people can object to pics of nude dolls (they are sculptures are can't do anything truly explicit if they tried). I can understand NWS, but then, maybe people shouldn't be surfing photo sites at work?!!!! And if they are doing it for work, I'd people would understand that there are all kinds of images on the internet... but I guess not! *_*

Oooh, your boy is adorable! They are a lovely pair!

      Thanks for the information. :D

    20. OMG alington he is wonderful!!!! :D Hurry Peakswood! Release the boys!! I'm dying to own one of these guys!!! :...(

    21. Alington, I'm coming back into this thread at least three times a day just to gawp at your Cosmo :aheartbea I just love him. When will PW put us out of our misery and release these gorgeous boys

    22. Ooooh--Did you guys see?? There's a date!

May 21! Set your calendar. That's when the Segi twins go on sale, so I bet the boys will be released then, too. I'm super excited to see if Dandy Tristan will be released as well. Now--I have to confess that I ordered Segi as a girl at the show--I couldn't resist her freckles!--and I have Cosmo. But what if Tristan is super cute as a boy? I'm so scared! :)

Also, if you're interested... I posted a photo comparison of the new Lolita body, the original FoC, and two versions of the Absolute Beauty Femme body here:
      http://www.denofangels.com/forums/s...Absolute-Beauty-Femme&p=10783392#post10783392

i have both a one-piece and split thigh, and the split is great for sitting, I have to say.

    23. I am so excited to finally see a new boy! The Segi twins are adorable. I personally do not like the shading underneath the freckles. Looks a bit dark to me.

Alington, thank you so much for posting the pictures of all the boys. It is great to know there are other boys coming.......soon I hope? How did the face-ups look? They look dark and a bit heavy-handed in the pictures, IMO.

    24. BethL, I loved Cosmo and Dandy Bella the Moon, and I really liked some of the Segi face-ups. But I think Dhar is suited better for girls, personally, too. Interestingly, the creator/sculptor/owner of BNB Doll gave a face-up tutorial at the Korean BJD Show, and I was talking to Pan during the demonstration. I think she (Nornan--the artist) will be doing the boys' face-ups for Peak's Woods. She really does amazing and fast work.

I wish I'd gotten better photos of the boys, but I think the lighting really makes their lashes look heavy. They don't have eyelashes on top, which probably makes their lower lashes look heavier than they really are. I wonder if putting eyelashes in would balance out the upper look a little? Also, when Megann and I were comparing, we really preferred the darker eyes (brown and gray) to the brighter ones (blue) with this particular face-up style. If you can stand this blurry photo:

Peak's Woods by alington, on Flickr

Also, the nude boy has pretty heavy makeup, but he is the promo, and belongs to Pan. (She gets to keep the first one--of every doll made, it seems.) :)

    25. I really, really liked the freckled faceups. But everyone has slightly different tastes, so it maybe be too dark for you. They weren't subtle, that's for sure! They were very red-ish faceups, but it went so well with the hair color and they looked great in those school outfits.

      I think there's a non-freckled version, isn't there?

    26. Oh no doubt we all like different things. I think the idea of the Segi twins is great, actually.

I love the Segi sculpt for a male doll. It looks great in a male or female version. I wonder what the basic dolls will be like?!

    27. Thank you :) Her Make up is by Youkosilvara, she followed my mock up so well, i'm very happy with the result!

      dollhausen thank you so much^^

alington thanks and I agree, WU Goldie definitely has a 60's look! And your Skiya is to die for, just like your boys. I love your photos :)

    28. I really like the Segi twins, I love the freckles. I'm not sure if her lips are a bit too painted though for her 'age', Alington - what did they look like irl? Anyone tempted? I'm trying to imagine what she'd look like with usual clothes rather than school clothes but I have a bad lack of imagination when it comes to this.

    29. Beautiful!

    30. OMG I am doing the happy dance right now!!!! The Doll Peddlar had 3 of the FOC Dandy Boys for sale on their website. Now minus one because I just bought one :D

I was seriously considering ordering the Segi boy twin doll because I love the Segi sculpt as a male so much! The freckles just did not fit the character I have in mind. Now I will get a Segi boy who will fit my character perfectly. I am sooooo happy I decided to browse through their Peak's Woods page!!!

He will need to get some clothes, wigs and shoes now.

    31. Congrats, Beth L! Doll Peddler was at the KBJD Show and bought a number of dolls from various vendors there. Your boy was probably one of them. Look for KBJD Show Photos and maybe you can spot him! :)

Speaking of which-- Peakswoods posted photos of the KBJD Show on FB--

      https://www.facebook.com/PeaksWoodsBJD
(I hope that link works--it's their FB page with a link to photos)

KBJD Show FB site (with photos and links to photos)--
      https://www.facebook.com/kbjdshow

There's also a petition to sign if people want another KBJD Show. Might not happen. Only 33 signatures so far...

    32. Oh help me!!!!! I am so in love with the FoC Dandy Tristan they have pictured to feature the body. I hope they offer the Dandy Tristan head. I LOVE him!!! Yikes.....I now see a few FoC boys joining my PW girls :D

    33. Does there happen to be a thread about resin comparisons with Peaks Woods' Fairies of Color dolls? Thank you!

    34. Eeee---I love Dandy Tristan, too, Beth L--and congrats! I think my budget is going to be shot to shreds, LOL!

April, thanks for the link re: that petition for the KBJD Show. I didn't know about it, so I filled it out! That's fantastic. I'd love for the show to return!

kalhirst, I have seen several resin matching threads in the photo request forum in the past, but I didn't bookmark them, unfortunately. If you like, you can check out my Flickr photo stream. Try this link:
      https://www.flickr.com/search/?q=hybrid+peak's+woods

This will show a bunch of my hybrid dolls, which have a bunch of my hybrid dolls, which might give you an idea of how other companies' resin matches with Peak's Woods.

    35. I dunno why, I never paid PW much attention, but I love the new boy body for some reason, the lithe frame, the young face, and the sort of strange awkwardness of everything together is really endearing. I can't wait to see the basic photos, and see if anything pops out at me as must have!

    36. Hi, first time posting on this discussion as i have a question. I'm sure it's a question that's been asked before but i would like to know what size clothing fit best for these FoC dolls.

I love the new Segi girl doll. My little daughter thinks she looks like Anna from Frozen :) I am very tempted in ordering her but i don't collect dolls larger then 40ish cm. So i have no idea on what size clothing is best. I really like DollHeart clothing. Which size DH clothing would fit best? Like would the ones made for 58cm DD fit?

Any info would be apprecited or if anyone can point me to information about what fits best. I don't want to buy a doll and have her nude :)

      Thanks in advance.

    37. @animedolls: DollHeart uses a lot of Peak's Woods dolls as models for their clothes, also with the new Lolita body it seems, so I'm pretty sure DollHeart stuff will fit perfectly :)
I think you should look in the SD13 Girl and SD10/13 Girl sections to find clothes in the right size. ^__~
(If you are still in doubt, DollHeart are very nice and friendly if you decide to contact them)

    38. I agree with Kurisu. DollHeart SD10/13 size fits PW girls perfectly no matter the bust size. But DD size clothes are usually too snug around the waist, and DD dynamite size is too loose. I find that Volks SD13 size is perfect fit on PW FoC girls! And aesthetically, DollHeart outfits look the best on PW girls :)
      Hope this helps!

    39. I really really want a Tristan on Dandy body! I missed getting Tristan but I'm kind of happy now since I can get it as a boy now. I contacted peakswood asking if they will offer him in suntan. Which I hope they do!!

    40. the new boys all look so gorgeous loving them a lot :)

    41. Yes I agree! I didn't fall in love with the body right away (lol, putting it that way makes me sound weird :D). I like how Peakswood made the chest and stomach very skinny, but gave it super athletic legs. I think that's what adds to the awkwardness. Like a teen still growing into their body.

    42. The basics are up! I don't know which I want more; Bella or Cosmos :XD: They're all sooo pretty!

    43. The boys are cute, but i am a little bit disappointed at how girly they look. They even have the same style of make up as the FoC girls ... More like girls dressed up as boys. The body looks ok ... Though i find the chest area a bit weird. The upper chest looks like the breasts of the girl molds have been cleanly cut off, that area is too smooth and too squared.

    44. So I don't understand is the Tristan boy head the same and the girl head? I know the girls heads had elf ears. If that's the case anyone can buy the boy head and put it on a girl body. It really bugs me that they would have done that they said that head was not going to be released as a basic.

    45. No, the Tristan boy mold is a little bit different than the girl one. Here is what it says on PW's Tristan boy pre-order page,

"*Dandy Tristan (Jaw and lip parts of original mould have been modified)"

    46. Oh well maybe my annoyance was a bit early. I have to agree with you about the boys looking like girls with a boy body. I also find the male body a bit feminine in a lot of ways. When I see the picture of the body from behind I thought that looks like their girl bodies. It might just be because of the sculptures style.

    47. I just think they wanted a body that went well with their female body, style and aesthetic wise, and if they had made a bunch of completely new sculpts, I feel like a lot of people would have wanted to try and get the female heads on the boy body anyways. I think they all look great, and unique from their female sculpts, the versatility is really utilized. The body shape is very unique to them, the size of the hands, the length and width of the limbs and torso, they all add up to a classic Peakswood aesthetic, but also something fresh.

one thing I will say, I wish they had done something a little different with the school boy style presentation. They are all a little too plain in that way for me, and maybe nicer wigs, just because you want to wow people with the sales pictures.

    48. Yes, I think the wigs on the boys are kinda of plain. I don't know maybe I'm just partial to the girls. The boys do nothing for me. I just see girls on boy bodies.

    49. I'm just really annoyed that I do not have the money or space for a Dandy Tristan >_<" he looks so good.
Unlike others in here, I'm really impressed with the boy body. The line is called Dandy, and I really think PW has captured that idea in their body. :D

    50. No Dandy Lavin... :(

Anyway, I'll going to Korea soon. Hopefully I'll get a chance to visit PW...

    51. If you guys are curious about the new boy sculpts--when I spoke to Kyung Min Lee (the sculptor), using Pan as the translator, from Peak's Woods at the Korean BJD convention, this is what she said:

      • Segi has always been a boy--and it's the same sculpt. She actually intended him to be a boy from his first release; it's just that she took her time to get the boy body the way she wanted. (She seemed to be a bit of a perfectionist, just from talking to her.) :)
      • Cosmo is a new sculpt.
      • If the name has Dandy in front of it, that means the sculpt started with the girl sculpt and was modified. For example, Kyung Min started with Dandy Bella the Moon and giving him a slightly heavier jaw and cheeks, plus a slightly wider eyes. Dandy Tristan also started with Tristan, but he has regular ears (he is not an elf), heavier jaw, modified lips, and wider chin.
The idea behind this was to make "brother" sculpts to the FoC line, from what I understood. Also--you may notice that the makeup isn't credited on all the boys' pages yet. I'm fairly certain that Nornen is doing the face-ups for all them (check out Cosmo's page), which is new for Peak's Woods. She is the owner of BNB Doll, and you can kind of see the reflection in her own dolls' face up as well. (I met Nornen at the KBJD Show, too. She's super sweet, humble and kind, and she taught the makeup class there. OMG--she was amazing!)

Now, I'm not sure if she did the makeup for the boys I saw at the KBJD show, but it seems to me that they do look a little more girly in the promo photos than they did in person. They are supposed to be young boys--like 16-17 years old--and innocent looking, like the girls.

My only issue with them is that I've seen Segi as a girl for so long that I have a hard time imagining him as a boy. I actually have already ordered the girl version, since I think her freckles are so sweet. (Again--she was just stunning in person, and I don't think her promo photos do her justice.) But I realize that I'm kind of a fanatic, so you may not want to take my word for it. ;)

I have to say--I adore Dandy Tristan. I think he is super cute. I think he'll fit right in with the girls, and I think I may need to add him to my collection, too.

Here's another RL shot of Cosmo--in a fancy new DollHeart outfit called Cello Romantic. I even learned how to tie a tie, just for him. (How sad is that? I'm 41, married with kids, and a doll has to teach me to tie a tie? Can you say "smitten"?) The wig is by Licht, and I think I like the other one a bit better.

    52. lol alington, he looks so cute! With this hobby, there's no limits on what you can learn from dolls. Thanks for the comprehensive info on these new sculpts. I'm completely smitten with these boys; I think they compliment the girls very well. I'm pretty sure I'm going to snatch up Bella (but Cosmo is looking very tempting too).

    53. I actually love the girly, pretty boy look - I'm a bit tempted by Bella as a boy, though I hadn't been interested in her as a girl. And Tristan, though in that case I like Tristan boy and Tristan girl about the same. Reminds me of a cat somehow. Your Cosmo is adorable too, alington! Cosmo probably looks the most masculine of these sculpts. And I agree with you on Segi, somehow (perhaps ironically given that he was the "first" boy in a way) the boy Segi doesn't appeal to me nearly as much as the girl Segi, who looks so impishly charming.

The body is interesting but not my taste, given their sweet and round faces I picture a younger body. I'm interested in possibly a hybrid with PW boy head + DollnDoll king body or Volks SD10 body somewhere down the line, and I'm glad to see the heads are sold separately.

    54. hey alington, what size wig is your Cosmos wearing? 8/9 or 9/10?

    55. I am sooooo excited!

This is a very happy Peak's Woods week for me. I just ordered a FOC Dandy Tristan!!! I have been selling some things on ebay and I have managed to get together enough money for Tristan. And......my FOC Elf Tristan has shipped and should be here in a day or so. The wait is always so worth it when it comes to the PW dolls :dance

    56. Congrats! Cant wait to see her pics!! :)

    57. Congrats Beth L! Cant wait to see both Tristans! I'm still deciding; I don't know if I want Bella, Cosmos, or Tristan. Such a hard decision :sweat

    58. I know what you mean, krystina, it was a difficult decision. I had to go with the Dandy Tristian because he appealed to me the most. I also love Cosmo, so maybe if they have a second ordering period I will get him then.

    59. nvm, I found my answer.
