Sewing Pattern: "One Size Too Big" Hoodie (+ Shorts! ^^)

Mar 9, 2012

1. --Mod Note--
We are aware that the link to this pattern's PDF is no longer working. Please view the following post further in this thread for an approximation of the pattern:
/posts/12720282/

Just had an itch to make some clothes when I woke up today and here's what I came up with:

The "One Size Too Big" Hoodie
[IMG][IMG][IMG]

And the Denim Shorts which I bothered to add details to, but forgot that it would get lost under the big shirt. :sweat
[IMG]

Comments and suggestions are very much welcome! They'll be handy when I make another one. ♥

EDIT:
Here's the pattern for the hoodie at last! Click me to download or open pdf file!

Just print pdf file with no scaling. I indicated the hemlines so you can line them up with the existing hemlines of old shirts to save sewing time. ^_^

WARNING: The patterns have no sewing allowances! Add allowances as you cut.

ANOTHER EDIT: If you do use the pattern, please post it! I'd love to see what you guys came up with the haphazard pattern that I made. ♥♥♥

2. Ah~ That's so cute! :fangirl:

Did you use a pattern, or a handmade pattern?

3. @Emfy: Well, I used the generic body pattern my mother did for his button-up shirts. From there I traced the sleeve hole and made impromptu adjustments for the longer (and wider) body. Same with the sleeves (the generic pattern was short sleeved, but that only required extending the length so yeah). The hood I just cut then and there. I also prayed a lot while cutting. :sweat

4. D'awwwwws!!:aheartbea

5. It's adorable. Did they take long to make?

6. @saraquill: The hoodie + shorts took me about 15 minutes to cut and about an hour to sew. I found it easier to cut out the fabric for the body and sleeves on the old shirt's hemline itself so I won't have to hem again. ^_^

7. Could you post a tutorial?

8. I would also enjoy a tutorial, or just patterns would be totally doable by me haha.

9. I second the pattern bit. <3 My Girls would love cute hoodies. ^^

10. i vote pattern !

11. Would love a pattern! I think this could look super cute in some fun designed flannel!!

12. I now vote both!

The more clothes I can practice sewing - and succeed with - the better.

13. I'd like the pattern too, my boy Faolin needs some shorts and a cute hoodie

14. Thank you kindly for the comments, guys! ♥

I'm getting around to making the pattern for the hoodie (I naturally suck at making patterns :sweat), so just hold tight there, I'll be uploading it soon. ^_^

15. OH my gosh, this is just adorable. Thank you so much for making the pattern; I definitely would like to try this!

16. OMG. thank you so much :D

17. Thank you!!!

18. Yaaay~
Nice work!
and thank you for sharing the pattern! :aheartbea

19. Hey~ So I was really super excited about the pattern being put up so I ran to the dollar store, bought a cute printed onesy and started right away. My Plua is modeling it.

I ended up making the hood part too small to accommodate her hair too but thats nothing practice can't fix. Also, because I'm a hand sewer the pocket could have been handled a bit better, but over all I'm super proud of this.
Thanks so much for the pattern!

20. @Lady Ra: OMG that is one adorable hoodie! And about the hood part, you have no idea how many rejects it took me before I was able to make a hoodie that could fit both head and hair. :sweat The hand-sewn pocket doesn't really distract TBH, since the stitch is evenly spaced. Love it! ♥♥♥

21. This is so cute! I just love oversized hoodies! And Lady Ra, the one you made for your girl is just adorable - great job!

22. I love this pattern! :D

This was my first time using it, and it turned out a liiittle too big my slim RS boy, but I still love it! I can always take it in some. :)

Also modified it to make my SD a sweater! :D

23. Nice, I'll be saving this pattern for my incoming doll :D
Thank you!

24. Thanks for pattern it will certainly help me a lot with when I get confused in my projects.

25. I'm totally making this for my BJD.

26. so sweet
i will make those soon

27. Currently in the process of cutting out pieces for a hoodie for one of my girls.. I have no working printer, so I had to wing it, measuring using my doll and looking at your pattern xD Let's hope this goes well!

28. What size will the pattern fit if printed as is?

29. Cute material :)

30. This is great! Thanks so much for the pattern, it will be very useful in the future. :)
Ah yes, and what size is your cute little model there?

31. I'm going to try this, not the BEST seamstress, but worth a shot. If it comes out well, there will be some major photo-shooting.

32. @czerniana & @lili: Frei is a KDF Yuz, a medium-built mini 41.5cm tall. The pattern printed (no scaling) will fit most mini sizes. ^_^

33. Finally got around to taking pictures of my hoodie! :)

34. cuteness overload :D! amasing hoodie

35. So cute! Can't wait to dig out my lightweight 'sweatshirt' remnants and give it a shot...

36. what a great pattern! Thanks for sharing :D

My apologies for the face-up less girl (i ran out of MSC) & the braided wig (Its suppose to be a curly wig but it got all tangled because my boyfriend sat on it, wasn't paying attention, and i don't know how to restore it... yet) & the HORRIBLE lighting. My little elf lady was the lucky lady that could wear one of the things that actually worked out (no seriously.. this was the first time i got it right) i just had to put holes in the cap because of her long pointy ears... i made a second one because this purple one was just a try out (and i didn't make a pouch on the front...) but don't have any photographs of that one yet, did want to fit it on my small SD girl as well to see if it would fit her to... anyhow... first try & first one that worked out! Thank you so much for the pattern.. (I made her leggings/skinnyjean to)

38. Made another one, though this time I skipped the hood :)
I only have photos of the unfinished hoodie sadly, but it still looks good x3

&& my SD girl even fit this one!
Well, she's not that big O.o
The hoodie needs a little more room, sleeves a tiny bit extra and the bottom probably to (big butt lady) but she fits it =3

And here's mine! :D

41. I have been looking for a hoodie patter! I want to make one...

42. Awesome! Thank you! I'll start this tonight and hopefully my doll can have enough casual clothes to look like a normal girl at the con this weekend- thanks again!

43. So I just printed this and realized it's for SD size...anyone know how to scale it down? I only have an msd....

44. Probably re-size it to the scale of 3/4 of the original size?

45. So trying this, I think I'll have to shrink the pattern a little though.

46. I may try this with my PKF when she arrives! CUTE! <3

47. THANK YOU so much for this! Awesome! Printing this out without changing the size will work for anyone who has Iplehouse JID girls. It came together perfectly. I will also be trying this out for my IH JID boy.
Here's mine

48. I love this! Its adorable :3

49. And's here's my boy! He's an Iplehouse JID. For anyone with this size doll, I printed out normal size, but added an extra half inch all the way around the pattern, and sleeve got an extra inch. Worked great for these bulky man chests (and yes, that's an old Invader Zim shirt of mine. Doomie doomie doomie ;))

50. [IMG]

I gave it a try for my little Yo-sd girl, and I think it turned out pretty good, despite the fact I have no idea what I'm doing haha.
Also in case anyone wants to know I just traced the pattern from my computer screen to get it to her size.

51. I love this pattern so much! I made a jumper for my girl but it doesn't look half as good as this! Once I can get myself to a printer I will be all over this pattern!

52. Jackey in her WAY to big sweater, but it looks nice on her~ Made it from a butt ugly sweater we received from an aunt ( A ) It makes a cute sweater~

53. Ok, yeah, can anyone post a small tutorial on HOW to do it? The pattern is beautiful but I have tried to make it twice and knowing what order to sew the patterns together can make a HUGE difference! xD

And also how exactly to sew the sleeves to the shoulders while keeping the thread hidden..?

54. Maybe it will help - http://25.media.tumblr.com/6974193d2cefd88d003747baa186c6e5/tumblr_mjleqfAuCs1ry64sho1_1280.jpg that's the order I use ^^
The main idea is that you sew sleeves with body front+left at once (green lines).

55. Thank you!! :D This is exactly what I needed, a visual "yes, this then that" guide. Now to get more fabric as I have used all of mine for more attempts...T_T

56. I've made several now though after the first one I modified it to have a zipper front because the top hole didn't come out big enough for my doll's head to fit through - so I have to behead her to put it on :( hahahahaha

57. Thank you ><

58. Great work of you all! It's such a pleasure to look at all those photos!

Can't wait to make my hoody

Thanks for sharing the pattern!

59. Wow!!! This is adorable hoodie! Thanks for sharing.

60. Brilliant, thanks so much for sharing this pattern. I may try it out for my JID girl :)
