Wanted Pattern need: male yukata for Class 80 IOS doll

May 7, 2013

    1. I'm searching a pattern to make a yukata for this big boy. I've found one for 26$ but I don't really want to spend them since I can make one on my own, or at least try xP

    2. I've made kimono for dolls using make-for-human patterns before. A yukata is just an unlined cotton kimono (and a kimono is more-or-less just a longer kosode with longer sleeves), so if you find one pattern you like, you should be able to modify it into any kind of kimono-type garment you want. Kimonos are also fairly unisex, at least in how they're made.

I like the panel-width measurement instructions here: http://bryn-gwlad.ansteorra.org/articles/as/kimono/ -- basically, 1/3 your doll's widest measurement (usually hips or bust)

and then I use the length measurements from this site: http://www.yamakaminari.com/HowTo/RoxannesGarb/Kosode and Kimono instructions.pdf -- basically, base-of-neck-to-hem, shoulder-to-wrist (or wherever you want the sleeves to end), and sleeve-length.

Either of those have good instructions for assembly, but here are a couple other places that also have instructions (you can take your panel width and other measurements and plunk them into just about any set of instructions):

The only difference between a doll pattern and those human ones that I saw when I was really hunting was that the doll patterns often omitted the back seam (and heck, some human patterns omit this seam too). A couple had you cut out the sleeves already attached to the body, but that looked kind of awkward to me...

Hope this helps, and don't forget the seam allowances! :)

EDIT: Did a quick search, here's a forum tutorial (it's also quite good) : http://www.denofangels.com/forums/s...ata-kimono-needs-no-pattern!&highlight=kimono

    3. Tokoz: thank you so much *O* as soon as I'll get my doll I'll make one for him <3

    4. Kimonos and yukatas are very simple in construction! Tokoz posted good stuff, there's also lots of kimono patterns online too. Its all just rectangles so its pretty easy to do! Plus they'll fit just about every doll around the same size, so you'll always have something to fit any new doll you might get :)
