Faceups pastels stains during faceup

Oct 31, 2022

    1. hello all!!

I hope i'ts a right place to ask about my problem, i've tried to find a post before posting new one but i couldnt find any info about it so, here we go:

Do you have any tips on working with soft dry pastels? whenever i try to do a eye shadow or put more color on the lips, the soft pastels kinda spreads more on the cheeks and i've noticed that my red pastel turns yellowish on those unwanted spots after sealing it with MSC? Do you have any tips on how to put pastels properly?

    2. If any of the pastel spreads on areas you don't want it to, wipe it off before adding the next layer of sealant.

Perhaps don't load your brush with as much pastel each time, so you have more control over where it goes and it will be less likely to drop off onto other areas of the face...?

    3. I keep a clean brush to wipe off pastel that goes anywhere you don't want it. Gently stroke it off. Also as Teddy says try to adjust the way you're applying it. I grind the pastel onto paper, then saturate my brush with it and tap the brush before applying to remove any excess.

    4. That's a good idea - I'll have to start doing that too.

    5. Thank you Teddy!! I will try it next time

    6. Ohh Thank you!!

    7. I use a kneaded eraser to help with stray pastel dust (and shape eyebrows). I've also found applying pastels with a pointed q tips in some places (like the lips or eyeshadow) helps keep it where i want it to be more than a brush. You might also want to use more layers of sealant if needed. I tend to do at least 2 or 3 just for blushing.

    8. Oooo, that's a good tip, I haven't done faceups but I wanna learn, I didn't know to tap the brush before you apply

    9. Shake off excess pastel on brush before application. Do not wipe the powder on the face, just blow. You can also put sealant more frequently so you can just use eraser when you get a smudge without other layers. Try to work with same colour family at once. I hope this helps!:3nodding:

    10. That's an interesting technique you have @Lady Maeve ! Different techniques are possible so you'll have to find what works for you @Myska
To control pastel spread I apply pastel carefully with a direct motion, not a sweeping motion, kind of just straight down onto the face and then with the brush dry I simply blend the color on the surface. If there is extra I want to remove I use a dry magic eraser to lift. If you want to start the later over completely you can use a wet magic eraser on the whole face too.

    11. you can buy an air blower. knock the brush few times before you apply it on your doll, or slightly press the brush on tissue or sponge, It will help remove unneeded pastel powder

    12. Lots of good tips here. Getting ready to do my first BJD faceup so I am thankful for the tips! :D
