Wigs Papillote Hair Curling

Jan 10, 2023

    1. I have a pencil curling iron, but it tends to crimp the hair where it is clamped down so I don't like using it that much. I know there's the plastic straw and pipe cleaner method but there was a whole thing about banning plastic straws.

And I am a history nerd and wanted to try it. Going for more 1820s-1830s hairstyles rather than the one featured in the video. I didn't fluff out the curls.

30 seconds at 380F seemed to work best. Wetting the hair before rolling it up was less messy. My wig is made out of mohair.

      Papilloted up!!!!

      Results.

With the dark green wig, I twisted the hair before rolling it in a loop which left the curls tight and thin.

On the pink wig, I just rolled the hair and the curls are more wide and fluffy.

    2. Thanks very much for this! I hope to make/restyle some historical wigs and this was very helpful!

    3. I’ll have to try this sometime! I’ve had limited success with metal chopsticks but this seems like a less burny method to say the least lol

    4. I totally forgot this method of curling hair exists! Thanks for sharing :) I’ll be sure to give it a try
