here are some shots of my first project all roughed out ready for shaping and adding the curves and details. i used a core of newspaper wrapped in clingfilm to stablise the insides and wrapped it in DAS paperclay to make the torso then i added a skin of Efaplast clay to make her chest as it is whiter and finer textured. when it was dry all the way through i sawed her in half and made a ball and socket joint. (never again!) i made the head in much the same way (not finished by a long shot!) when i thought i was getting somewhere i test strung with elastic and completely lost the nerve to continue. after checking out some of the work on the forum and being a fan of Donn and his bishies i took another look and thought that it wasn't so bad so i'm going to continue! never uploaded a photo before, hope it comes out ok.... the face is much better in reality but still needs forehead, lips and nose done, etc etc View attachment 1690 View attachment 1691 all comments and suggestions welcome! (i need all the help i can get!!!!
It's really hard to give pointers at this stage. All the sculpts start out looking pretty close to where you are at now. The only advice I have is believe in your work, and refine, refine, refine. If you start making mistakes, take a break and do something else. Otherwise, it looks like you know what you're doing It'll be fun to watch the evolution of your doll
***quick update*** trashed half of what i'd done, fused the bottom half of the torso, shaved off some of the hips (thank you carvable paperclay!!!), ripped out all the joints and am replacing them with drilled wooden beads (already see an improvement), did some sanding (achoo!) will do a bit of the head tomorrow and i'm just waiting for some of the added parts to dry. all in all i'm much happier with it. forgot to say that it's an msd sized doll and i'm also in the process of sculpting a male head out of paperclay and a vampire/ghastly/maggot head, doing a 60cm obitsu haruka custom face up and half a ton of msd clothes to sell on ebay! busy, busy busy!
